I simply killed the minelayers and their fighter escort with a fighter/corvette screen and then took my time capturing that heavy cruiser and its 2 destroyer escorts. It takes some time and some micro, but those capital ships are definitely worth grabbing. Passing up on that kind of firepower is not something I could do, and that's why I captured every heavy cruiser I came across rather than destroying them.

Your description of a 4X empire building game combined with a real-time Homeworld-esque game for the battles sounds like a space version of the 'Total War' series.

Shack what you might want to do is start retiring some of those old enemy destroyers and build your own as well as retire that carrier and just build your own version so you can building ships from it as well as your ships have better health and shields than the other factions ships

Shack, you could have loaded up all your resource gatherers into the carrier gone over to a mining spot deployed them

Captain Shak, I wish to ask a request. What if, like one a week or once every few days, you play a multiplayer game with some random people or Alteran. Some games with mods or with AI controlled players.

Nice work Shak! I went down the middle on my play through. Mines weren't too much of a problem & I managed to steal myself a Battle Cruiser! I took my fleet behind the Station and attacked from behind like you did w/ minimal losses
