This is part 2 of the Atari 2800 Joystick build and it's finished so we are going to look at the steps to make your own and all the details for the parts.
I call it the Joystaddle !!!
When I mention cutting the shaft down I say 40mm when it's actually 50mm and needs to be reduced to 40mm.
All details and files can be found on printables including free STL

You can buy part kits, or 3d files if you want to help the channel

STOP THE PRESS !!!!!!! I have found this could also work on other computers like the Atari XL and XE with no changes and I can make a Commodore version with a new POT. I don't have an original sid in my c64 to test :(

Great work Lee, this is awesome. Also, I loved how you incorporated the words knob, shaft and nipples. Mark Fixes Stuff would be proud.

Eryone is my go to filament at the moment. The Bambu stuff is also quite good.

Great video Lee! As you know I'm a big fan of these. Loving the purple and yellow "Waluigi" edition 😁

Thanks, after more research I might have to make a brown - beige version for another 8 bit system !!!

Magnificent. One of my fave 2600 games was Circus Atari, made frustrating by terrible paddle pots. Tempest is another, breakout etc. I would love to modify a couple games to work with paddle: Gyruss, Omega Race.

I was just playing Circus while testing joysticks, I still think it's frustrating haha

Yes, I am very pleased with the final build and how everything fits together, the new leads just adds to the overall look and feel of an original controller.

I like this design. A few years ago I wanted to convert 2600 paddles to work on commodore better as commodore paddles are harder to find and pricey. 2600 paddles do work but response was too fast to be useful in a game like Omega Race. Unfortunately I couldn't find a suitable replacement rotary potentiometer with commodore-like impedence to do it. I could wire in resisters but the response curve probably wouldn't be smooth enough.

Commodore need 470k and I can get one the same type as I used in this so I am thinking to make one, but my C64 does not have an original SID so I can't test.

Looks great! Love that you kept the 70s design aesthetic and mechanical aspect. Looks like it was fun to design those springs in and find what works. How does the 3d print come out so smooth? Been on the outskirts of 3D printing but haven’t bitten the bullet- mostly I don’t like the texture you get with ridges. What did you use to smooth it so much?

To get the smooth finish you print the parts standing up and also spend £600 on a good quality printer.
