They had the file of Roger only at the beginning as he was the lead officer. Die Hard 3, which is great, was written to be a Lethal Weapon movie. Murtaugh's family had the tied up scare. And his wife's car was tortured to death.

The main reason for the overall plot in this is because there were a couple background references to ending apartheid in the first one and Richard Donner received death threats over that. So he put it on full blast here.

I'm so glad you appreciate the music. Having passed away at 55 back in 2003, I feel Michael Kamen is starting to be forgotten. Which is a big shame. His music was on par with Williams, Horner and Morricone. His score for Robin Hood Prince of Thieves is fantastic. The score for these movies was made in collaboration with Eric Clapton who plays all the guitar cues throughout the movie and the jazz player David Sanborn who plays all the sax cues. It was one of, if not the first time established mainstream artists did extensive work for a Hollywood movie. He was a sought after musical conducter and arranger for many established rock artists like Pink Floyd, Queen (the orchestral score for Who Wants to Live Forever was him), Clapton, Bon Jovi and many more.

As you might suspect, diplomatic immunity isn't nearly as unbreakable as portrayed in this movie, for the exact reason seen in the movie. At most, they would have had to call the feds in to take over the case. Though it would be kind of fun to watch a country try to hold one of its ambassadors totally immune while they were going on this kind of open crime spree, and have to deal with every other country in the world refusing to do any business with them.

Love all 4 of these movies. My favorite buddy cop/action franchise. Riggs is such a troll. 😂 The writer Shane Black was originally going to kill Riggs off but Richard Donner and the studio thought that was too dark and left no opening for another sequel. Shane Black was mad about the change and quit the franchise entirely. The first one was focused more on Roger's side of the story and this one focused more on Riggs' story.

Fun fact: BOTH of you should recognize my name. I found you both individually, and enjoy both channels. =D The Lethal Weapon movies are an absolute treasure! Some people say they get "worse" as each one comes out, but I disagree. I think it's a perfect evolution of the characters, especially Riggs, whom you might know I identify with very strongly because I was widowed in 2006. In many ways, his overall journey (no spoilers) parallels my own in the wake of that trauma. While I'm not a cop, there was still a long time for the recovery. I'll be able to tell you more after you see Lethal Weapon 4.

10:30 - Kaffir is basically the N word used in South Africa (and other places). 11:55 - Sam! I'm calling on you to talk Kaiielle into watching My Cousin Vinny! 19:10 - That's the thing about (harmless) hazing..... you GOTTA laugh at it, because it shows your character. Being the butt of a joke happens, and is usually in good fun, so laugh at it. But don't forget to dish it back when the opportunity is there. 40:50 - Bills of that amount are not in circulation, but only used for shipments to other countries between banks. At least, at that time they were. Now, it's likely all done digitally. But that's a fun little fact for you younger people to have from a guy old enough to remember those times. =D 43:10 - Also, this reminds me... a movie I'd love to see you guys do, "Bad Boys" starring Sean Penn from 1983. It's not the same as the 90s movie of the same name. It's a really good movie, and I've not seen ANYONE do a Reaction for it. 44:10 - Also, the original version of this ending had Riggs die, but I guess they had the idea to NOT kill Riggs off because there were more stories to tell. I'm glad they opted for this direction instead of the original ending, because we got 2 more fantastic movies out of it. Post movie thoughts: Again, no spoilers... but I think you're going to enjoy both 3 and 4. All 4 movies have a similar style of humour, action, and pacing. But the most important part is the evolution of the characters and their relationships to one another. This Quadrilogy is a perfect example of great evolutionary storytelling. I keep hearing that a Lethal Weapon 5 is in the works, but I'm perfectly fine with how the story wrapped up in LW4. I don't NEED another one, although I will give it a chance if it ever comes to light.

I look forward to the two of you watching Lethal Weapon 3 & 4. 4 is actually my favorite of the bunch, but all of them are great buddy cop action movies. In fact, they are the standard by which that genre should be judged.

Just FYI @08:42 in this reaction at multiple points in this film, the bad guys in this film say a word that starts with the letter 'k' but rhymes with the word 'gaffer'. This word is the South African version of a word that starts with a 'n' and rhymes with 'digger'. If you say that 'k' word in South Africa essentially you essentially commit a hate crime and people have been fined and even jailed for saying that word.

The drive-through thing sucks for the employees. Instead of buying the person's coffee behind you give the employee serving the window a big fat cash tip. That would make the world a better place. All those people in line behind you can already afford what they're buying. It's not a dick move to not want to pay for somebody else's luxury coffee.

He says it's a special script, and it brings the franchise back to it's more "gritty" humble beginnings (the third and fourth are more action comedies than dramas) Looking forward to your reactions to 3 and 4.

I have to say some thing about the train of people in the drive-through paying for each other. That happens in the United States too. That doesn’t do a goddamn thing for the working class. All it is is fucking irritating for the person working the drive-through window. Please don’t call me an asshole if I can’t pay for the person behind me. I use the drive-through maybe once every couple years if and when I think I can afford a treat. If you want to really do something nice for them give the person working a drive-through a big fat tip. The person behind you doesn’t need it. The person working the ass off at the window does need it.

My sister actually met Joe Peschi in NYC (And speaking of what i said about LA gang culture i might be NEastern but ive lived out west too and been around LA based gangs they've gone everywhere but anyway my sister actually met him and he was wearing a disguise so as to not get bothered but somebody ended up introducing her to him and she barely recognized him. I gotta talk to her tomorrow and ask her what his disguise was again she said he was nice though. She's also seen Dave Chapelle but didn't wanna bother him with his family. She tried to be the considerate fan compared to what most would do. Anyway, this is a classic. It's also annoying but accurate from a gun lover stand point that for a long time in these movies the 80's and 90's the older cops would carry a revolver while younger cops had magazine guns and i get it they are set in their ways but one thing that's not true is that revolvers never jam. They do. Rarely but they can. Storywise this and the last movie are the two most important 3 and 4 are gonna seem more like epilogue movies somewhat.

Kaffir is a racist term for black people in South Africa. It originally meant non muslim in Arabic but when used as a slur it's historically to do with slavery and the slave trade that occurred where black people were sold to muslim slavers who treated them horrifically. Essentially the same as the "n" word.

Wait..if you were in finance, you should have know the status of $1,000 bills..lol..just saying..of course you worked in the lame 2010s to later I guess..I handled 3 accounts that were money laundering accounts for the Mexican cartels when I worked at Charles Schwab. But since I knew what the cartels did to people who talk, I said nothing. Besides, you cannot win the drug war. Use is at an allt ime high despite the impotent DEA and border patrol. Example: as a trucker in Laredo, TX, I saw them bust a semi with 80 kilos of cocaine. The truck was a decoy. While they were all taking selfies with their bust, 3 more trucks with 45,000 pounds of cocaine crosed undetected. Thats how they do it. Never win the drug war. People's demand is greater and the cartels have 2000 times the money our govt has. Quit wasting our money.

This movie went through some serious rewrites during production, and unfortunately it really shows. Shane Black originally wanted this to be a definitive end to the story with Riggs dying, which is why that final scene is played so dramatically. But the studio wanted their cash cow around a while longer, so a bit was added to show he survives, and then it abruptly ends because they had to cut the original final scene with Murtaugh still in mourning a few months later and had nothing to replace it with. At the same time, they also decided Riggs needed to be kept the way that people had first engaged with him, which meant he couldn't end the movie in a happy relationship. And since these were the days before Gail Simone brought public attention to how offensive the practice of "fridging" was, they simply killed Rika. And it's very clear they didn't have much time to add her death into the script, with both her and Riggs suddenly becoming total idiots who think it's a great idea to just drop her off at her apartment with zero protection AFTER the bad guys have shown they know she's turned on them and are willing to kill her along with Riggs. Shane Black hated the result and calls this the worst of the four movies, though Gibson, Glover, and Richard Donner all named it their favorite.

What Shane Black wanted was never going to happen in the real world. What audience wants to see the hero die? It’s a business as well as an art form and you need to have some commercial instincts. In the end, Jeffrey Boam did a great job in the screenplay and Richard Donner made an entertaining movie that is actually better than the original.

This director is the same director that directed the first 2 Christopher Reeve Superman movies, Richard Donner. Zack Snyder sucks!
