Let the Lower Lights Be Burning

Музыка

Classic hymn written by P.P. Bliss, the author of "Hold the Fort," "Almost Persuaded," "Hallelujah! What a Savior!" and the music to "It Is Well with My Soul"; didn't realize we were singing so loudly, distorted some on the flip cam

Your singing took me back several years to the church I grew up in. It is no longer a Southern Baptist church there in San Diego County. When I was going there, before I moved to Iowa, we averaged 300 in Sunday morning service. While I was gone, a pastor was elected whose goal was to be a pastor of a mega church. And he tried really hard to make that dream of his a reality in that church. After a few years, the congregation had dwindled to 12 people before the church finally voted to close the doors and sell. My parents were one of the last to leave. My grandparents had been charter members, and had helped build the church from a handful of people meeting in the bay of a gas station on Sunday mornings, to an average size congregation meeting in a beautiful church building. I guess that goes to show that when our goals do not align with God’s plans for us, things don’t go the way we think they should. We can set our sights on something all we want, convince ourselves it is the way it is meant to be, and run around as busy little beavers trying to make it happen to fit our fantasy. But unless it is God’s Will, it won’t come to fruition. I have been there. It can be frustrating when you see someone who isn’t a Christian doing whatever they want and it turns out perfectly for them. Does that sound like something a whiney baby would say?! It is because we have given our lives to Jesus, and as we grow in the Lord, our lives should become less about ourselves, and more about serving God. How can we be a beacon to a dark world if we want it to be all about our desires only? I want to shine for Jesus. So I want to be sure I am praying constantly for my heart to recognize His leading me in the direction I need to be heading to serve Him, and not trying to make things go my way. I am sorry I wandered away from the what the lyrics in this song are saying. But I just felt led to write this comment as I did. Maybe someone will read it, and feel the Holy Spirit nudge their hearts to rely on the Lord and not themselves over a situation. I know He spoke to my heart today on this very topic. You and your Dad were fantastic in this video. The lighting may have been a little dark, but I still enjoyed seeing you. I always do. Your voices were strong and clear as you sang. And the message of this song was placed in my heart and mind. Thank you! Donna. : ) Monday, March 7 2022, 10:24 pm

Glad Tipper sent us here today. I'm sure I've made this comment before, but THIS is my favorite as far as the family harmony between you and your dad is concerned. Absolutely beautiful, and of course I love the hymn itself.

I looped this a few times while having lunch. (Dinner for you, Tipper. Dinner for me, as well, until I got to college in '75. I thought "dinner" was a remnant of my French-Canadian heritage, but you have helped me understand that is not necessarily so.) Very nice, indeed. Thanks for directing me here today, Tipper.
