    This was the only actually helpful thing I've watched in the past month researching how to make homemade shampoo. I keep reading "add salt, add salt, add glycerin..." but with not a lot of details on how much, in what ratios, or when or at what temperatures... and also none of those worked for thickening my shampoo, like at ALL. So I was a little irrirated and thought MAYBE I'll try one more thing (a gum like xanthan) but I was already pre-annoyed that it probably won't work - just like the glycerin I tried and salt all didn't. But this video actually shows me the difference between these, and how to get those results - so finally I can clearly see what I need now. Thanks!

    Yaya hi I was curious what would make the most stabilizing shiny lip gloss base. As I’m trying to no longer use premise base and create my own I’m nervous because you said for the first one to stay stable you have to use less than 5 percent oil

  • @YayaDIYCreations

    @YayaDIYCreations

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Cocoamour96 I have not tested the Aristoflex AVC to make a lip gloss yet, but if I had to choose; I would say it has the best texture and stability for a lip gloss. It is also lip safe 👌🏽 And yes, it can only bond oil-in-water emulsions that have 5% or less of the oil phase. Anything more may destabilize the product and cause the oil and water phases to separate. Good luck with your creation.

    You just saved me some coin and a trip to the store 😂 Feeling lazy to head out to the store for Aloe Vera gel and Amazon is selling the one I want at twice the amount I paid for it at my local health store. I have Aloe Vera juice in my fridge and food grade Xanthan gum in my pantry, so I guess I’m good to go. 😊 👍🏽 ** Edit ** OMG I just made me some Aloe Vera gel. My nieces are going to love me. They’re constantly buying gel and I haven’t made flaxseed gel in over a year. I love flaxseed gel but it is kind of time consuming. This took less than five minutes with a mixer. Mixed it in a bowl then transferred it to a jar (just kind of plopped in there on it’s own 😂). Thank you so much for this. 😘

  • @Connie-sx7nz

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@razialatheef5742 you can also use Guar gum. I usually use anywhere from 1/4 tsp to 1 tsp of guar gum or Xanthan gum with vegetable glycerin. So I would suggest mixing 1/2 tsp of your gum with 1 tbsp of glycerin then add it to the aloe vera. The more you mix the aloe the thicker the gel will become. If you need it thicker mix more gum with glycerin to add to your aloe vera (this needs to be done separately, do not add it straight to the already made mixture). Hope this helps. Let me know how it turned out. Good luck 😊

    Thank you so much for this video. I'm about to go down the gum/thickener rabbit hole and was so pleased that you had a video. Question - Can any of these gums be combined. Also, I was so downed when you said that Xantham gum was not an emulsifier. I so thought that it would be. I want to kee it natural but love the viscosity of the synthetic gum. Is there a natural thickner that would produce that result?

    I have tried using Guar Gum (food grade) a few months ago in a diy product and it did not mix well at all. I thought maybe I did something wrong so I tried it again and got the same results. Now I know I need to purchase either the cosmetic grade of Guar Gum or go straight to Xanthan Gum. Thanks!!!

    Hi Yaya! I just recently found out that Lotion Crafters is selling Sodium Carbomer already pre-neutralized so it gells as soon as you mixed it! It seems very inexpensive at least 22$ something for a pound and 4$ something for onzs! So pleaseeee make a hair gel with it 🙏🏼 I guess it wouldn't have a hold but it would be cool to see what sorts of ingredients you add to it and how it gels and compares to these others!!

    You can also mix guar and xanthan at .5% each. I find it does improve the texture, viscosity and stability in soap products. I am loving this combination for my higher pH natural liquid soaps that will not thicken with salt. I love aristoflex in my hand sanitizers!

    Hey thank you so much I'm subscribing immediately... What would you recommend for a thickenner for a clearing shampoo body wash that I'm going to make using more oils than anyone would dream of. Clear meaning its going to be colored but I want transparency. I'm going to combine marula oil, kukui nut oil, argon oil, avocado oil and olive oil. I have some essential oils I'll integrate as well. I want basic meaning as little chemicals as possible and more pure ingredients. I do have pure aloe juice too. I also want to make a matching conditioner using different butters like shea, mango etc do I need different specific emulsifiers for each one? And I really just want to have a thick clearish shampoo and a creamy conditioner. Don't know if I can use the butters in the shampoo and keep it clear, probably not. Also I'm going to be doing hard soap with the same ingredients same oils even the aloe juice but I'm using a base soap that's white and not quite hard enough.. It's made with coconut oil as a base but im hoping the olive oil and salt will make it harder cuz I'm just going to melt it down and add more oil... I have 2 pounds of beeswax too for the soap as well as deodorant I'll be making... also what do you think about making these products with designer fragrances I'm going to do it just to say I did it

    Hi Yaya thanks for sharing. When I add xanthan gum to my flaxseed gel and apply it to my hair, I have some residue and noticed that the residue is from the xanthan gum. How do you avoid these residues? Please😊

    Would either of these work with aloe vera and alcohol? I want to make hand sanitizer but I want a gel consistency. TIA and thanks for the video.

    29msmoni I believe they all will work fine with alcohols depending on percentage used. However, I know that Aristoflex AVC can be very sensitive. It does not work with Aloe Vera, salts in general; like hydrolyzed proteins. I hope this helps.

    Thank you for the kind words! The Aristoflex AVC is a synthetic gelling agent. It is not natural, but it is also not harmful. Very delicate, light gelling agent. The Xanthan gum clear is naturally derived and the guar gum is food grade. I do not recommend using food grade ingredients in formulations. I hope this helps 💜
