DIY CLEAR GEL BASE | USE "Natural" Thickening Agents | Day 8, 9, 10 of the 25 DIY's of Christmas ☃️

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

✨Created & formulated by YAYA. Please credit & tag if you use this formula. Thank you 😊💜✨
✨ I am testing 3 different natural/ "naturally"-derived thickening agents for clear gels, shampoos, lotions, creams, conditioners, and more.
✨✨"Naturally" derived can mean that the ingredient is synthetic. It just means it was created from or using an initial natural ingredient. However, in most cases, the "synthetic" or "naturally" derived ingredient is accepted as natural and can be use in products that claim to be "natural".

I have been practicing with Xantan and guar cum, making Arnica and St.Johns Wort pain gels, but quit making it for more research, because Xantan gum with the oils added, after few times rubbingon in the skin it makes flakes. Im now just using a organic after sun Aloe vera gel from the store and mix in the herbal oils that way, which work amazingly, but its very expensive.

You are very welcome. I am happy to help. I would use a smaller amount of xanthan gum or combine it with a more conditioning thickener, like GuarCat. They work very well with each other. So, instead of using 2% xanthan gum, try 0.5 to 1% and add another less sticky thickener to make up for the other 1.5 to 1% respectively. I hope this helps 😊💜

I would have to test it or if you test it, let me know. I would personally use the thickeners as a base and then use aloe vera powder or hydrolyzed flaxseeds vs the actual gels. This will provide a product that is more stable and with a longer shelf life. Also, it is possible that the viscosity would be affected. It would be best to test a small batch. Let me know how it goes. 💜😊

All you have to do with guar gum, or guar cat is add more, and trust me it will get really thick. I used 1 tbsp to about 10oz of water and it is very thick.

As long as you stay within the suggested usage rate, it should be fine. Do what works for you. I believe I used the maximum dose for this size batch. I measure by weight only (in grams). I hope this helps.

Yaya were you able to ever find an emulsier best for making nice, light and watery leave-in conditioners/sprays? Do you have any references that include your videos and or other sources?

I am still not 100% sure just yet. GuarCat comes pretty close. I have some other ingredients that I am ready to test. Please stay tune. 💜💜

If you're looking to make a "hair milk" type of product, id recommend using the emulsifier glyceryl stearate and PEG-100. This is often referred to the naked emulsifier. It does the job without giving it any thickness or body to it. So you can easily make a hair milk spray with this awesome ingredient. If you wanted a thicker product, you have to add a thickener yourself. You can be totally creative and add some cetyl alcohol for some thickening and amazing slip and make that hair milk into a hair lotion. Anything your heart desires.

I would be careful anytime you are using food instead of cosmetic grade ingredients. Water-based gels are already hard to preserve. Adding onions and garlic juice may make it impossible. For a one day, small batch treatment, it should be fine. Just add a percentage of the juice into the distilled water before adding the thickener. I hope this helps. 💜💜

Yes, too much can and will flake. Kind of like flaxseed gel. Only a small amount is needed on wet hair. Make sure to work it in well. I hope this helps 💜😊
