So I took leave numerous times out of country, I was originally a corpsman and attached to 3rd mar div. It is a difficult process even going to an ally country. So you need to put in leave, you need to map out the routes your going, you need to know where the US embassy is, you need to take a class on the country your visiting. You need to get signatures from security, which is only done by appointment. You need to find a hotel that has a security guard that is armed with a weapon mind you that a weapon doesn’t mean firearm but baton, knife, etc. expect to plan at least a month out and that is pushing it, I’d do 1.5 month just to ensure that everyone that can sign off is able to sign off. Also, if you’re a citizen of another country or dual citizenship, you may be denied because some countries that have mandatory conscription will put you in their military. I know my roommate was korean, I’m not sure if he was a dual citizen or korean citizen, but if he went to South Korea, he’d be forced to serve in the Korean armed forces.

Hey Gunny! Former Infantry Marine (0351) here! Stationed at Camp Lejeune I put in leave request to go visit family in Ecuador. Denied. I put in leave request to go visit family in New York. Granted. Platoon Sgt pulls me to side and says Hey! If you go to NY and while there , happen to fly to Ecuador from there, only ppl who would know are ppl you tell. Keep your mouth shut and safe travels PFC!

Don't join the Marines homie. It's not worth it. Join the AF. Better opportunities on the outside and a better quality of living while in. The marines might be "hooah", but they live the absolute worst quality of life during any operations. With the Army being a close second worst.

Hey Taylor, I don't know if Emergency Leave is the same as it was in the Army about 50 years ago, but it had to be requested through either the Salvation Army or the Red Cross. Emergency Leave had to be confirmed by either one to be granted.

I really am interested in joining the marines to follow in my grandpas footsteps but I seriously don’t know If I’m mentally capable of making it through boot camp

so in order to start counting those days you have to take the* Active duty start date*? since that's the date the marine start working, right? after the booth camp

Great question: Yes, as a reservist you have a few options when it comes to MARSOC. You’re able to try out for 0372 CSO, or work at MSOG (special operations group) as a regular 0621 (unit) OR go SOCS as long as you’re eligible and meet the requirements set forth.

Maybe you can help. My son is leaving in 19days for Marine bootcamp. He did Meps and everything months ago. He knows what hes going for ect.. everything is already lined up, then the recruiter told him he needed to take a test called "Tapas" have you heard of this? I can't find anything on this? He also got secuity clearanced. A woman called my house and said she was an investigator?

Yep. I know what this is. Basically it’s a personality test that sees if you may be a good fit for other jobs (think linguist, intelligence, etc) it’s not pass or fail. Whatever him and his recruiter spoke about previously still stands so don’t worry. Also yes the person calling you about a security investigation is a thing. All marines have a background investigation performed on them. It was that packed he filled our (SF86) and probably asked you for help with too before going to Meps lol Anyways nothing to worry about. All standard practices. Hope this helps.

Why do you need to go on leave when everyday is a holiday… plus there are tons of entry level jobs giving 18 year olds that kinda leave packages out the gate. 😂

Everyday in the Marines is a Holiday 😂 Also with leave + all federal holidays off (usually a 3/4 day weekend) depending on the holiday + housing allowance it’s hard to beat. Idk too many companies hiring 18 y/o’s that provide a housing allowance along with everything listed above. Do you lol ?
