Let's talk about... Variants of uncertain significance

This film is part of our 'Let's Talk About... Genomic Testing' series, produced in collaboration with genetic counsellor Amanda Pichini. Here, our experts talk about variants of uncertain significance, or 'VUSs'.
VUSs are genetic changes that have been identified through genomic testing but which we don't yet have enough information about to determine their implications.
VUSs are a common occurence in the field of genomic testing, as we still have so much to learn about the genome and its implications for our health. Here, our interviewees explain how they might handle the topic, and its complexity, when dealing with patients and families.
Please note that these films were made during the Covid-19 pandemic, and were filmed via video call in order to comply with government guidelines. As a result, there are occasional dips in sound. Subtitles and transcripts are available.
Health Education England's Genomics Education Programme is developing a substantial education programme to inform healthcare professionals about the impact of genomics on clinical practice. This video is the one of the many educational resources from the programme.
