Let's Talk About Spring Catfishing

The spring catfish season is upon us and it's time to get out and learn how to catch big catfish in the spring. Spring fishing for catfish is some of the best catfishing of the year. Targeting giant catfish in the spring can be a challenge as weather change make fishing difficult. In this video I discuss my theory on the date that the catfish bite becomes consistently good and weather changes are less of a factor. I also talk about the catfish bait I am using, and how I set-up for catfish in the spring.
If you are planning to do some spring catfishing, then you're probably wondering how to catch catfish in the spring and want to know where to start looking for them. If you are learning how to catch catfish for the first time in the spring, warm weather is the key, and shallow water is where you can find catfish as they go on the prowl looking for food and spawning areas. In this video I am using gizzard shad for catfish bait. Many believe that the best catfish bait for spring catfish is gizzard shad.

That was fun, my last 2 weeks I found myself fishing at oompa loompa village but I'll take it. Some action is better than no action. 👍

Dieter, have you ever caught a pushing rod or any equipment while fishing that somebody else lost. I caught someone's rod and real last week. The rod is more modern and better than my other second rod so I kept it and put my reel on it.
2 to 5 pounds for a keeper in me book. At least for channels and blues and around 8 for flathead. I don't keep fish much and I'm picky on where I keep fish. Great video!
Hey there buddy I love your videos Im in the Carolinas as well I do a lot of fishing i caught small catfish when i was young but did/do more saltwater and bass fishing but last year i started catching big ole flatheads an now im hooked no pun intended i know you get a lot of questions but I thought this one would be good I heard ya talk about the moon phases an it makes some times better to fish an not so good times I feel like that would be good to learn

I caught a nice think foot long cat in a pond I'd never fished at last week. Think it was some kind of bullhead. This was a case of looking at my camera underwater and not knowing he had been on my other line.
Wonder how long the pool floats last on these planner boards…they don’t normally last very long when exposed to sunlight 2 seasons maybe?

The fishes biology will rot a hook in just a few days. It's weird but true.

Why did you release a gut hooked fish?

As long as you don't try and remove a hook from a throat or gut hooked fish and just cut the line like Dieter did the fish should be fine. The hook will be gone in a matter of weeks in most cases.
