Probably because Tekken 8 is stuck between offering the worst and best gameplay in the series. It's very intricate and interesting to study but also very dumb and chaotic.

This is what I would talk about a lot in mortal kombat. My issue with mk1 is the lack of long reach mids and advancing mids in the game. The mid hitting attacks have been replaced with high attacks all moves that are long range and not a high, is generally unsafe.

I was wondering the same (I also play Paul) because once people turtle up and just wait to launch with keep-out bs, it feels impenetrable, but the conclusion I came to was you have to use movement as a weapon to not only evade, but to bait out opponents to move first. Then, you have to punish them, which is what they were banking on doing to you. It’s like a staring contest except it’s who loses patience first.

What about king though :) we all know his ideal is close range. i don't have good keepout tools though. People who are turtling and waiting and throwing those op keepout moves like the hwoarang move or kazuyas electric are scums. I'ts good against mashing sure but i think solution should be to make blocking possible whilst moving forward :))

The reina take is too accurate. I tried playing mostly mishima style with reina early on, only to realize that in t8, it's all about enforcing a game of rps. And reina is criminally good at that, so i use ff2 about 30%-50% of the time in midrange😂. Sorry to those who auto duck after ff2

I just started at launch and a fujin with Jin now (450+ hrs in now). I was a beginner 2 months ago so my tips : start with the fundamentals. Poking, side steps and matchup knowledge as a beginner learn what you can punish and which moves are + frames and -, also learn your key moves and how to use it. It takes alot of time but it's worth it. Because even losing is more fun now and a learning experience.

It takes a long time to learn, especially recognizing where different moves and strings end. When you get to the point where they just got done pressing buttons and you know they're like -3 or something, you can throw your fast counterhit move and catch them until they decide to stop pushing buttons, and then you can run true offense. It does take time to get used to the neutral game though, a very long time.

Pree much agree with learn ur fundies and ur good but a good thing to learn as a beginner other than the general stuff u'll always learn. Is simple block and punish. Ud be suprised how many ppl dont recognize their own frames and just get away with it. But if u punish them not only u most likely will catch them being extra dumb and tilted, it helps u familiarize the matchup as u try to punish the unsafe shit with ur char. Ofc all of this IN TIME, pacing urself instead of repeatedly bashing ur head against the wall hoping something works will demoralize u faster. Just take ur time and if the game is physically making u angry all the time. Its best to touch grass or simply stop.

@@Maw117 There comes a point where nerfing backdashing makes efforts to derive the most mileage possible from horizontal movement futile, though. T7 didn't quite meet that threshold, notwithstanding the nerf to backdashing in T7 relative to previous Tekkens. Simultaneously, sidestepping was also nerfed. Hence, you had certain top-level players play in a very cagey, passive way, creating what distance from their opponent they could while keeping them at bay with pokes, and unwilling to engage them up close lest they be forced to take a 50/50 that the game's weakened lateral movement won't allow them to evade by sidestepping - Knee is a case in point. (Paradoxically, keep-out was a _less_ abusable strategy in games prior to T7 where movement was stronger, as playing keep-out too predictably made one more susceptible to being whiff-baited and punished by an opponent deploying a hit-and-dodge play style.) T4, on the other hand, nerfed backdashing to the point where it was flat-out useless, leaving players without any option but to engage their opponent at range 0 to 1 most of the time (unless they were playing a character with a back sway). Go watch T4 tournament footage and you'll see what I mean.
