Use a spool or reel with a line that's at least about 1.5x the depth at which you'll be deploying the dSMB (after prepping the spool). dSMB's often don't shoot up straight from your position due to current. You want to make sure the line is long enough so the dSMB can actually reach the surface. 15m spools are great for deploying the dSMB from your safety stop. 30m spools are for deploying from about 20 meters. (OW depth limit) 45m spools from 30 meters. (AOW depth limit) 60m spools from 40 meters. (max recreational depth limit)

as usual : clear, concise, helpful. Thanks! one quick question please : any opinion on these flatlines that we find here and there? look good as as solid, and allow to store more length in a same spool or reel.

Apeks uses Edelrid tape line for their spools and reels. They are more compact, and are a bit easier to untangle than regular 2mm round line. I've tried looking the type of line up to buy separate in greater lengths, but I can't find any for sale, other than Apeks replacement lines.

No, lines are colored so they're easily seen in the water so you reduced the risk of entanglement. White, yellow, and orange stand out well in water, so those are the colors you'll see on spools.
