It's interesting you have a rule not to write anything negative. I have the opposite rule. I feel if I write it down, I remove it from my mind and trap it on the paper. I've always had a journal for things I want to just get out of my head and let go. That's the one I would never want anyone else to see, because it would make me sound really crazy and violent.

In the past I only journaled when I felt bad/ anxious. The problem is that once I looked back at this journal and it made me feel awful to see all this negativity and I even was a bit shocked about my thoughts. I then also decided to not engage with these thoughts on paper again. The negative thoughts are often floating and writing them down makes them persistent. I also saw a very good KZread video from Ryder Carroll (bullet journal creator) on “toxic journaling” that was eye opening as it was exactly what I did - now I focus on my goals dreams and things that make me feel good - that’s the things I want to remember when looking back.

I'm a little late to the party but I thoroughly enjoyed this video and your process. I've saved it so that I can go back to it once I receive my SI planners & 5-year journal. 😊 One of the things you said that really resonated with me was how you don't write anything negative on paper. That's my rule too! I know a lot of people find it helpful to regurgitate and let all their feelings out but I don't. I want to find ways to re-direct any negative emotions I'm feeling into something else.😊 Getting started is something I struggle with so this real time planning will help so much - thanks Catherine!

I’ve never done any goal setting as I didn’t really know how - at least I had in my mind what I wanted to do but never wrote it down or broke it down - guess what? Hi Eva, thank you so much! I am using a mix of pilot vanishing point (fine nib) and platinum 3776 (fine and medium nib) with a mix of iroshizuku take Sumi and archive and document ink.

I like learning from textbooks, but will also pair with elementary school reading in Japanese and add my favorite tv shows (I know I said I won’t watch tv shows, but this is a must for leaning speaking in my opinion)

I really hope I didn’t make you feel that way. Goals are so personal you can have any kinda goals. I don’t meet all my goals. I forgot to mention that. As long as I know I tried my best and focused on the priorities I am happy and content
