I think that would lean too much into unimportant due to its forgotten war status. I think realistically the Vienam war would probably be a better pick since its slightly important but not very important. Like it was just a war of the west trying to contain communism with disastrous effect. Its relevant to modern history but I don't think much would have changed if it never came to pass.

If we assume alien existence, then they could be recording a history completely unrelated to us. Also, if we simply die out, then earth *could* see the emergence of a new sentient species to record history. Besides, I'd define that historically as "the end of humanity", rather than WW3. It's the more significant fact.

As for aliens in another galaxy or whatever, guess what, nothing we have ever done, or ever will do, counts as historically important to them. As for arguing that a war ending all life on earth isn't technically the most important thing, because only the 'all life ending' part is the only thing that's really important, that's just semantics. That's like arguing "well, I didn't kill the guy, it was the piece of metal that was propelled from the gun when I pulled the trigger that killed the guy."

Is the prompt that hard, though? On the left you have “a wind chime”, and on the right you have “a world war”. I’d have put “the World Series” for that range, I think. Popular and followed event, affecting many people, but not that many lives, and somewhat pertinent even years after due to fans tracking the stats of games; but will it be in a history book? No.
