Let's MODEL, RIG and ANIMATE a MECH in 10 MINUTES - ep 18

Hello and welcome to Episode 18 of the 10 Minute Modeling Challenge in Blender 2.82! This time around I attempt to model a MECH robot with a custom armature with inverse kinematics and creating an animation for it - all in the course of the usual 10 minutes!! Wish me luck =)

And go. I modeled hundred thousand poly models with panels and greebles with like 5 hotkeys. I love the new blender but there was something so satisfying about the old crude blender that no one took to serous. Now our blender is all grown up and I love it.

As an artist (digital painter) who is just learning Blender now, I relate with the frustration. But one neat thing I experienced when learning how to paint digitally was that repetition, not quality, was key. As long as I could force myself not to refine each project too much, and just say "this looks like [insert favorite inappropriate word] but I accomplished my goal; now let's do it again", over time, it really paid off. My first digital painting in Photoshop took something like 30 hours, and over about 2 years, I got it down to 8-10 hours. Your mileage may vary, but I think it's universal that we all get better with practice. :)

The most important part of that process is the Shift-D to duplicate. As this is the decision key to create a new vertex group to link with, later. Somehow, i forgot to shift-D to make the hand (i was too extatic using E and S). When i selected the arm and pressed L, it selected all the faces of arm & hand. And had to assign a new vertex group myself.

I have been trying blender after seeing your ten minute builds You made it sound simple enough so that I felt confident to make a game. Your texturing technique helped me a lot to create a low polygame as well. I added a trick of my own by mapping the left right UV position to encode some additionnal information ( using shader graph in unity, I either map it to the roughness or displacement to animate some bee wings ).
