Let's Model GAME ASSETS (part 2) in 10 MINUTES - Blender 2.9 - Ep. 42

Hello everyone! This is the 10 Minute Modeling Challenge but this is part 2 of a little mini-series for a few episodes. I model game environment objects for 10 minutes and in the bonus material I also import those assets into Unity 2020.1 and begin to make a game. The miniseries may span 3-5 episodes within 10 Minute Modeling Challenge and next week I'll add a enemies, and other elements. I'll animate and implement those into the game in the bonus material each week. I expect the episodes to be about 30-45 minutes long each :)

Additional info:
I've been modeling in Blender since about 2015 but more recently in the past couple of years. I've been making games and assets in Unity since 2011 and I'm currently working on a multiplayer RTS game that I'll be happy to announce later this year.
I use a Canon Lumix GH5 camera to record my videos with the Olympus 17mm F1.2 lens as well as the Laowa F2.0 7.5mm compact dreamer lens. Sometimes I also use a GoPro Hero 8, a Insta360 One X and a Sony rx100 mark vii. For audio I use a Rode NTG shotgun microphone connected to a RME Fireface UFX II sound card.
Thanks a lot for watching and sharing my videos :)

I'm actually really impressed. Not only did you make all that out of one object... but you created something that was nothing before and now is a moving jumping running person with character. Super impressive for such a short amount of time and effort. Obviously it can be improved a lot, by adding more animations or smoother ones, or better textures, or what have you.. but the core of it is there. It's pretty mind blowing when you basically sculpt life out of digital clay. That's why I love these programs. You can make whatever toys you couldn't afford as a child and play with them in an imaginary world that you could never visit. Nice.

To rig your armature to your model (the step he forgot to add to this): 1) Enter Object mode 2) Press ALT+A to clear any selections. 3) Select your character model 4) Hold Shift and select the armature so that now both are selected 4a) The order you select these in is VITAL. 5) Press CTRL+P and select "With Envelope Weights" That's it, it should be okay now. If you get an Error, Loop in Parents, press ALT+P and select "Clear Parent" then try CTRL+P again. I am new to this and this worked for me (after over an hour of figuring it out) and it all works as expected now.

Awesome video, I'm really loving the series... do you think you could show how you go about adding additional animations after you have the rig set up in Unity? Say you wanted to go back and add an idle animation, add it into Unity, and then later go in and add a getting hurt animation without having to reimport the model, rig, and all the previous animations that are already set up in the animator each time.

Can you suggest how we might get the look of your objects in the blender viewport (your cavity settings) into the models when they are in Unity. Blender uses the left hand rule for axis and unity use the right hand rule, that's why unity can't fix the problem by rotating, because it requires mirroring not rotating. but you fixed it by redefining the front of the character, great solution!

From my brief time in Unity I’ve come across so many paid assets in the asset store. I was wondering, as a student, could I possibly earn some income from building 3D models in Blender for the Unity asset store? If so, would it make sense to focus on this and turn it into a full time occupation? Regardless of the answer I would really enjoy making low-poly models in Blender and eventually build my own little game.

@Imphenzia: One thing you left out in all of this. While you were fast forwarding starting at 18:18, during that time you were trying to figure out where you went wrong, you somehow attached the bones to the 3D character without telling us how you did that. When you are done fast forwarding at 18:32, all your bones are attached to the character. Pressing Keypad 1 = front view (meaning, you're looking at the front of the model you are editing). It would be very confusing and non-intuitive to press 1 for front, and end up seeing the back. Wouldn't make sense. Anyhow, I need to search for a video which tells me how to put the bones and the character together. :/
