I recently purchased a Grrripper for my tablesaw. I decided to do the on-line registration (something I don't normally do). Under "Where did you hear about this product?" Steve Ramsey WoodWorking for Mere Mortals was a choice.

One idea I've seen elsewhere that I thought was pretty smart is to add a 30 degree angle cut on the vertical dividers, starting about halfway up. That way the top-front corner of the vinyls is slightly exposed and allows you to easily finger through them!

My son got me a 7 in 1 record player a few years ago and some new vinyl. I used to have several hundred albums, but now it's paired down, unfortunately, because of where they'd been stored. A good portion got wet and mildewed badly. The table is a nice project for sure. The vintage 70s cabinet I use has a door on it that is 2 piece that is hinged horizontally and folds down along a track. I guess it's extra fancy. Thanks for all you do! It's appreciated.

Steve, You already have the coral and purple paint to paint the cabinet to be of the era with the strobe. All you need now is a patch of the green long shag carpet for the cabinet to sit on. And don’t forget the ashtray to put the roaches in for decor.

One thing to maybe add to the stand is a groove at the front of the shelves to sit the sleeve for the record that you are playing. That way you can show off what is spinning and it keeps the sleeve out of the way.

I made a cabinet/stand too! Made it so the pre-amp and most of the cables and stuff can be hidden on the backside. That way, there is just one power cord and one audiocable coming out of it. My cat liked scratching the records so a door had to be made. It has glass in it and is big enough to put one record in the spotlight :)

I tried an experiment with my short-arbour table saw - I bought two new blades from the same batch and stacked them with the teeth offset so that they fitted snugly. The concept worked, except that the two blades actually had a significant difference in their cutting diameter; the bottom of the cut had a step in it.

Horizontal shelf is a good place to just put the jacket of the record your currently listening to. Tip for plywood edges if you’re just painting is to fill and smooth with joint compound rather than edge banding. Personally haven’t had good experience with edge banding trimmers. Also can use joint compound to smooth over wood grain surfaces so a smooth flat finish.

Hi Steve. Here in the uk we have a specialised tool for dados called a spindle moulder. It’s a little bit like a router table. Personally I prefer the look of a dado stack in a table saw but they’re extremely uncommon in the uk because lots of people were getting injured on them. I know a reputable English brand have just brought out a new table saw that accepts dado stacks so hopefully we do start to see more of them as technology progresses. For now I’ll use a table saw and take multiple passes or a router if it’s easier as the table saw for the dado stack is about £1,200 so around $15-1600.

Even though we are the same age (almost... Junior), I didn’t start buying records until 1982 when I got my first stereo. I think I bought my last album in 1989... 650 records later! I still have them all, though I play cds now (that’s another addiction-over 3000!) I like the indie movement too, as the big stars all sound alike. More jazz and classical these days though. The first project I ever designed was a record cabinet similar to the one you’re building, only bigger. Never made it though. That shelf... it’s for the amp! Those were the days...

I listen to all sorts of music, I mostly choose what I listen to is to help with the mood I'm in. Lately I listened to a mix on youtube called "Hard Dance, High Nrg, Freeform EDM Rave Mix - October 2014 - New Music " - this helps me during work when I need to finish a document or a program in time for release. And yes, I'm with you, I used to be a rocker and stuff, I still like the music I listened to when I was about 16-18 years old but I never liked Stairway to Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody, AC-DC, etc... I don't really like those huge classics. But you know what I love? Nine Inch Nails! Also, about 5 years ago I got a record player myself and bought really old classics like Laura Branigan, Tears for Fears, Dead or Alive, a bunch of Gary Numan albumns, New Order, Milli Vanilly... But sadly I didn't listen to much vinyl these days.

I just laugh a lot to this video. First of all, that records brings back ol memories. I had my youth time in the 70`s and 80`s and i remember a lot of that music. And as you say, it is sad that we cant have the system you have on your table saw here in Europe. It would have made a lot of things easier. That Disco light will be a hit every Saturday evening, when you and your wife will listen to music. Like a 80`s disco :) I wish you a nice and warm week. Stay safe and make this great videos. Best wishes from Jan in Norway

You should work out what to do with the area between the top and the dividers when you start using it. You will need somewhere to put the empty sleeve while the record is on the deck (after admiring the awesome artwork) and you won't want to lose it among the others in the dividers. Unintentionally good bit of design!

Hi Steve, A serious note amongst the frivolity. The problem with dado blades in the UK and I assume the rest of Europe, is the unprotected blade. If you can find a way of protecting the blade while using one, then it is fine. I know of one machinery supplier here who sells the package of the saw blade cover/dust hood on a long arm and dado blades, but they are something we can get from a DIY outlet.

That B52s album look INCREDIBLE. Honestly many of these covers hold up artistically, and the ability of an album to showcase a large piece of art is really nice too. Now I think most album covers are just a step in the process vs then when it was really part of the art.

Instead of just mounting the 'disco light' by itself inside the opening, you could get a piece of translucent plastic to fit in the opening, with the light behind it......
