There’s a legend about the tattoos. First brought to Sāmoa by two sisters Taemā and Tilafaigā. Originally only the women were meant to be tattooed there’s a song about it. However, on the way the sisters saw a huge oyster, they swam down to get it but as the came back up they got confused and said the men will be tattooed instead of the women.

for the tattoo, you dont really need a certain age to get the malu and pea, now many kids in high school get it for their family history or as a story to a certain relative. Many kids starting from 13 - 15 get the samoan tattoos mostly on their hands or ankle either getting a hand malu, simple samoan wrist tat or samoan pattern flowers, but many of them get a full samoan sleeve right after graduation

I’m Maori and I can’t speak Samoan. But I love their songs and sing them all the time. The US ambassador to New Zealand’s official title is Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa. From when Samoa was placed under NZ by the UK. During the 70s? Or earlier New Zealand had a staff shortage so many workers from the pacific islands/ namely Samoa. hence why NZ has a large population.

Also i think the translators failed to mention that panikeke is just round pancakes. They can be made with other ingredients it doesnt have to be just banana

My dad told me that his father was one of three out of eleven children who survived the Spanish Flu. My grandfather told him it was so bad, people actually had to lay their dead on the street in front of their houses & someone would pick them up to bury them elsewhere (usually, the deceased would be buried on the family land). Also, the word tattoo is said to have been derived from the word tatau - coming about from the mispronounciation of the word, tatau. The Snakes are not common. In Upolu theyre only found near the dam which is basically locked away from everyone and is strictly prohibited, and bats are mostly just chill and are only found in caves and mostly uninhibited islands (that people do not visit) and the people eat the bats so you wont see them💀

Don’t worry about the bats, rats and snakes. The snakes are never seen where the people are they’re mostly found deep within mountains and forests and they’re not poisonous cause they only eat rats and rodents. Also the bats you only find them deep within caves and mountains. It’s very safe. I was born and raised back home I’ve only seen snakes about three times in my life.

I am Samoan and lived in the island for 8 years then I moved back for 3 years and I have never seen a snake. Bat's are seen in the evening but they are harmless. Mosquitos are the only problem and I hate those insects. You don't ever see any other insects or animals if you just stay in the house and turn aircon on :) :)
