Let's Draw Struthiomimus!
Ғылым және технология
I did this drawing demo with Tara Lepore for the Paleontology Education Group on Facebook, which you can check out here: / paleontologyeducation
Tara hosts weekly paleontology Q & A sessions with professional paleontologists and every now and then, professional paleoartists ;}

Brian, please do a lesson on the feet of Ornithischians and Sauropods. I feel like their feet are often ignored, and there are so many mistakes made with them. Plus the difference between their "hand" and "feet" are lost to many people. This is true for a lot of clades within Ornithischians. Same with Sauropods.

@@shekelboob Funny joke, but for real, a lot of people always inaccurately depict elephant like feet on sauropods and Ornithischians, but their feet are much different.

@@vesuvius115 yea, it's true, all the focus is on theropod feet/legs, and yet they still get even those wrong lol. But yea non-theropod dino feet need some love, definitely.

It's a golden age for Paleo...thanks for the live stream. Cheers.
You're making me even more encouraged to continue biological illustration. Bless you, my dude!
That was an utterly absorbing 48 minutes. Well done Brian and Tara.

BRIAN ENGH PALEOART what about making a work of art made out of the empty plastic markers! Use the, as feathers or quills!,
32:08 omg he's truly Bob Ross
To be honest, I wondered how you were going to fit that strong muscle fuschia into the finished demo, but you pulled it off! And scleral bones were _inside_ the eye? That's some eye.

The quality and the thoroughness of the information you give is superb. The anatomy insights are really appreciated and helpfull and... of course, as per usual, your art is sensational.
i live the tiny bits of speculation you put in your art...it's awesome
I've finally been reading Witton's 'The Paeloartist's Handbook' during the last few days and this is just the perfect addition to the chapter I'm reading right now. Really appreciate you and your great videos Brian. Keep it up \m/
I enjoyed this video, I have liked prehistoric creatures as a child, really like the sketch neet. I'll find you again next time ... have a prehistoric day in this life
@brian engh paleoart This was brilliant, I'd love this kind of video on other dinosaurs/other parts of dinosaurs as well! There really isn't enough of this type of content around :D
Brian........The Genius.........things keep getting better and better....! Love your work... Thanks for sharing, Good Sir....!
Super stream! I really appreciate your process of explaining various elements of complex forms.
26:03 He is literally a "Hand Printer Robo"
Maybe those huge holes made the skull lighter, but if another dino bites you in the snout, it can easily break your upper jaw support, or at least leave it severely damaged to the point of not letting you bite strongly again.
I needed this in 1972. Thoroughly enjoyed!!

I'm definitely buying one of your skulls!
For some reason i can watch this to relax
I love your artwork, Brian.
I love the eyelashes, very majestic
I had a dream where I walked into a dinosaur museum, but instead of mounted skeletons they had life-like sculptures of the dinosaurs. It was like a museum filled with actual stuffed dead dinoaurs. That would be pretty wild.
omg i am looking at this as a drawing class hahahahah that artwork is WOW
38:45 I've been watching a lot of the old Seinfeld sitcom on demand. This is starting to look familiar.
This was excellent. Very interesting. As a kid I loved dinosaurs, latter I got into drawing. As an adult I’ve rediscovered art as a hobby . Maybe some dinosaur art would be fun to try
Who else was waiting to see the pencil shaving on his shirt fall?
Oh great ! I was waiting your draw of this dinosaur. I like it.
Very inspiring! I think I'll use the Struthio skill as a template and make more skulls myself. I'm thinking Deinonychus and an updated Dilophosaur! I'm probably doing Dinovember this year! Getting back into doing more paleoart again. Great stuff! As for plastic waste; If you love markers consider copic they have refills (and the refills work for several refills) and they even have replacement nibs and amazing brushtips but they are expensive and like all alcohol markers are NOT lightfast. Tjhey also come in an amazing variety of colours as well. But expensive... Anyways Great inspiration Off to paint a dilophosaur now!
The more you look at it the better it gets
What an amazing video, I don't regret of subscribing me, leave a good deserved like and stay tuned for the next video. Also, by the way, greetings from Latin America, as a biologist/paleontologist-wannabe. Also, amazing job done by Tara and you, keep going!!
Awesome drawing! But ain’t nobody shudder at the sound of whenever he drag the pen on the paper?
I’m hooked. I need to try this.
Damn this was fun to watch. You should try do a spinosaurid or a hadrosaurid
this is so cool!! I've always loved dinosaurs and art (even though I cant draw dinosaurs oof). I have so much respect for paleoartists! Maybe I should practice drawing animals a bit hmmm

trust me if you use skeletals as a baseplate and draw slowly with pencil you can do it! it's been long time since i was drawing normally and now that i did that using a skeletal as a refference it was even better than my older drawings i like reconstructing skeletals i already drew a t rex based on sue now i gotta make an edmontosaurus too and with the help of a flora guide maybe i will ask people who know about it i want to draw a t rex chilling and looking at an edmontosaurus herd from far away
thats actually pretty good animal behaviour acting its rare to find those.
You’re a super cool guy!
This channel is awsome
You should do a lesson of the anatomy of Dromaeosaurs, like the feet or the head or the arms and feathers. I very interested in those.
U need to do more of these at some point
This should be a primer for aspiring paleoartists!
Why is no one talking about how he basically said “we don’t make mistakes just happy accidents” The Bob Ross of the paleontology people Behold our messiah
Lets go!!
That skull look cool as heck
Thank you so much for video i like it
Bruh I need those puppets. They look so cool, maybe you could make a tutorial on how to make some of them?
That's a cool dog puppet.
You are a freaking wizard
Just discovered this channel from this video - this was both fascinating and hilarious. I love drawing dinos and love the idea of getting them as realistic as possible but when drawing from illustrations it can be hard to tell the width or proportions of limbs or parts of the dino. The 3D puppet looks like such a great drawing tool, I'm gonna have to give that a go. I wonder if I could make one out of cereal boxes?
I like your puppet. It is man-made.
Something that bugs me about a lot of therapod reconstrucions is (not just shrink wrapping, but that is getting better) but eyes being flat with the side of the head, birds have, as you mention here, eyes that bug out the side of their head a bit, and large carnivorous therapods probably had binocular vision, so something like an Allosaurid (which is a family where this issue is very common) should have eyes poking out that bit to see past the antorbital fenestra, sorta like a heron, but much less extreme. I wish i had my drawing pad and my pencils with me, but alas they are not.
Could you make another puppet pattern on a troodontid or dromaeosaur?
Hey Brian, just discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying it. Just a bit of a heads up from an Aussie; we pronounce it EE-mew not EE-moo. Look forward to exploring the great content on your channel. Thanks for sharing your work!!

Struthiomimus trachio opening coming out the corner of its mouth as its gulping down distant human ancestor?
If I have a puppet that looks that good, I am not making a sketch. I have the puppet. lol
can you make more puppets please i would love to make other dinos ?
Please do a lesson on Tyrannosaurus and suchomimus
I’ve never really watched artists draw by hand before, the rare occasions I watch drawings it’s mostly digital art. The thing that shocked me the most is that he used a fucking razor blade to sharpen his pencil. I looked it up and apparently it’s COMMON?!?? LIKE THATS SO DANGEROUS!! Best way to ensure longevity, razors near your hands constantly, some people these days have no common sense tsk tsk. (Last part /s obviously, but I did think it was interesting lol :P)
