I had no idea that St. Lucians spoke the same language as Haitians. I went on vacation and the taxi man started speaking creole to the person on the phone after telling us about the island. I was like wait a minute are you Haitian because you just spoke Haitian creole? I think he got insulted, but he was like no this is Lucian Creole. I was in my 20s then, but I had no idea and I live in South Florida, the mecca of every island and surround by different people. I've heard other creoles and are not even close to Haitian creole like St. Lucian creole, but I sometimes wonder now if the St. Lucians just assimilate as Haitians because I was just mesmerized by it and not ever knowing this. This is definitely coming from someone born in America and knowing my families native tongue. I felt so ignorant that day. We all need to travel and learn about different countries, I'm sure Native Haitians know this, but again I'm Americanized.

Seriously, 1 of the best ways to learn how to cook is watching these step-by-step recipe videos on KZread. That way you know exactly how things are meant to be done. I myself wouldn't even know how to cook properly if not for KZread. Making errors is fine, nothing is always going to be perfect and that's how you learn to improve and become consistent.

Yes, there are many similarities in cooking especially with people in Guyana and Trinidad. There are a few that will use make their own masala (turmeric, garlic, cumin, coriander, star anise, etc) instead of just premade curry powder. And they do call potatoes aloo in these countries also
@nalinir5092

Sunaina sharma gentle correction in your knowledge. The majority of Indians who now live in the Caribbean are the descendants of slaves / indentured laborers who were brought to the Caribbean many years ago when Britain ruled India. There are quite a number of Indians who not so long ago moved to the Caribbean islands. As such, the way we currently cook and the recipes are very similar. The nuances are due to the indentured laborers using what was available to them. The food is really delicious if cooked well.

Xena Warrior Princess ... As did I. You can imagine how many people here in the states don’t do it like that? If I don’t have vinegar, I use lemon and salt and keep it in the fridge for a day at the most. Then wash it off and cook.

Girl I had to stop myself from licking my phone screen 😆 you make it look all so effortless. This is one for the books that I will try. Great job on the tutorial !
My dad is from Trinidad and this is how he always makes his roti. He even has specific equipment that he got when he used to live in Trinidad many many years ago that he still uses till this day. Since my family is peskitarian, instead of curry chicken we would have curry shrimp, curry crab or both with potatoes and chickpeas 🤤🤤. I cant wait to start making this myself

This is so mouth watering 😍 We'll usually stuff the skin with the chicken, potato, and sauce/gravy... I love roti and your channel cause I always learn something new from your way of cooking and now I know how the roti skin would look sort of grainy like it has wheat or something in it like who would have thought the skin has fillings 😰 100% mind blown. I recently became a subscriber! I made your Jerk Shrimp Pasta for my family, and WE ALL LOVED IT; especially my extremely finicky 18 yr. old granddaughter! I was missing your green seasoning, but I've seen your KZread videos and will make some to have on hand! Dinner was starting to get boring, but you have inspired this 53 yr.old to fall back in love with her kitchen! I also ordered some Maggi All Purpose Seasoning. It's nice to see someone taking the time to cook Caribbean Foods, and present it so nicely.
When you're in Quarantine and can't to go to your parents home to eat your parents curry but see your video and mouth is watering. This is probably the closest I've seen to my parents curry on here.
I am just making this and OHHHH MY GOSH THE CURRY TASTES TOO GOOOOOOOOD That green seasoning makes a difference man

Yes, there are many similarities in cooking especially with people in Guyana and Trinidad. There are a few that will use make their own masala (turmeric, garlic, cumin, coriander, star anise, etc) instead of just premade curry powder. And they do call potatoes aloo in these countries also
