I went to the Boston Museum of Modern Art and walked out after 30 minutes feeling confused. At the time I thought modern art meant art created in the last 100 years and assumed it would have a variety including landscapes, animals, and other beautiful art. Later I realized modern art meant 'artists trolling pretentious snobs.'

Fence it off, invite some people around to ooh and aah at it while explaining how the milk represents the spillage of white, European colonialism (WEC) across the pristine native landscape and how, as it slowly goes source, it is indicative of the sourness natives feel regarding said WEC now that the gloss has worn off, then, while filming, proceed to wipe the milk from the floor and return it to the glass it came from, thus indicating how WEC needs to be wiped up and contained so it cannot poison anywhere ever again. Then spill the milk to start the demo over. Viola! Renewable art decrying westerners, colonialism and so forth. You'll make a fortune. ($2 per entrant to start, rising by $2 every 20 entrants and the entry fee can become another art piece decrying imperialism, greed and such, with the bonus of entrants contributing to and actually being part of a living art installation).

You can see it even in the buildings. The early '800s palaces from the so called tartaria era were so exquisite, majestic and beautiful, made by deep knowledge of stone masonry and engineering. Today it seems like it doesn't matter anymore, and everything is built in the easiest way and with the most simple lines. All square and cubic. The rulers of today must be very lazy or very poor in spirit, missing the concept of armory and beauty.

Its just art with the political and class-based meaning removed. Its meaningless as a result. Artwork used to be a way for smart people to communicate social and political issues to each other publicly without retribution from people in power. That's why everything in old artwork had multiple meanings and often the real meaning of a work of art was kept secret from 'art appreciators' or the buyers of the artwork. Now in days you can't put dual meaning in artwork without being accused of the worst possible things imaginable and thus artwork is meaningless today.

The problem with concepts like art is that in practice, it can’t be given a firm definition by its very nature with rules of what exactly qualifies as “real art” or not that can be more or less universally accepted. Combine that with its (often perceived) high status as a thing, and you often end up with rediculous BS that tries to scream “ask me what it means” and tends to come off as both extremely pretentious and horribly idiotic.

I feel like 120 years ago this all would have been amusing and a bit of a joke (groundbreaking in the worst posible way). The fact that we are still stuck in the nonsense show we have not only not advanced, but that we are falling apart as a culture (as another commenter pointed out). Not all ideas are worth executing and I don’t understand why these people are unable to see that.

My older brother did a painting of an old crashed propeller engined cargo plane that he once encountered and photographed. He was able to paint every last jagged edge, weed growing through, rust spot, and even the faded tail number. He won second place and the guy who beat him made an amazing painting of a bioluminescent cavern he had explored and photographed. THAT was art. Not whatever mess or disturbances these people are doing.

I'm not mad at these people doing this and saying it's art. They get good money out of it and it's probably the most mindless and easy job you could ask for the amount they gain. What baffles me is the amount of people that vehemently believe these have any shred of intention or emotional expression behind them. It's very much not different from a cult, putting meaning on the mundane or inexistent because you can't face reality as it is.
