MagnusMunch Genius almost certainly doesn’t just pick those artists, it’s just that only really trash rappers who have potential to gain publicity through the meme of the verified series are the ones who agree to do them. I agree, I'm a 5ft person - however I also disagree with what Fantano is saying. There are so many times I've turned up to a venue super early, and have been near the front - only to find myself being pushed behind by a group of 6ft guys. It's so frustrating! The only venues where I've not had this issue are really small/intimate ones.

Self-titled albums are also nice for removing the ambiguity between band name and album name. So if it's your first record people don't get them mixed up from looking at the cover.

Simon S. It’s timeless because of its influence. It Takes a Nation of Millions helped shape the idea of concept albums in hip hop. I’m very aware it’s sounds dated but it’s a time stamp in hip hop history that can’t just be pushed to the side because it sounds “dated”

They actually got Nas a while back (IIRC their first verified artist), but they totally should again. Personally, the highlight of that sit down was this annotation right here: genius.com/3074336, because, one, I finally knew what the hell he was saying, and two, it was a really interesting piece of vernacular IMO.

I knew an employee at genius, they don’t want any outside suggestions or help with what they are doing. They think that what they’re doing is cutting edge and what the people want but more than half of them don’t know music...at all...straight up. The verified series is for views and it’s always been this way. When rap genius started, it was way more accessible and easy to understand what the point of genius is and now we’re guessing what it is. They need better management and better people who actually care more about music than internet clout.

Recently I've been listening to the deluxe edition of STP's Core and its been fun to hear demo versions of the songs I've heard countless times. I don't prefer any of the demo cuts but its super interesting hearing what stayed in the final cut and what was radically altered

Yep, that was easily one of the best takes I've ever seen him do. I've always been a fan of 80s hip-hop just because I'm older and I didn't necessarily grow up with it but I'm closer to it than a lot of people are. Anyway, I always chalked up me still being a fan of it to nostalgia but Anthony made some really amazing points on it and I'm about to dust off some Public Enemy, Eric B and Rakim, LL Cool J, all that dopeshit
