Remake even goes out of its way to have monents where aerith says that she eants to defy fate, or says she always tells herself fate can be changed

She absolutely wants to live! Even in OG, her very last words to Cloud were that she would "come back when it's all over". Her death wasn't a willing sacrifice, more like her fighting for a future for herself, Cloud and the world despite knowing the risks. That nuance is lost in many discussions about her, serving to neatly push her out of the way instead of acknowledging how cruel and meaningless her death was 💚

@@Kabbaway honestly, if she does still die, I, like seemingly many others, will hate the existence of the whispers. If defeating them wasn't to let aerith live, what was it for? To have zack back? I don't need zack back. I need aerith to live

Exactly! Repeating OG but with extra steps is creatively wasteful. Either stick to doing a 1:1 remaster, or dare to commit to an ambitious but risky continuation of the story. Anything in between will come off poorly. As much as I don’t trust SE as a company, I trust the devs know what they’re doing and that they’ll do the characters and story justice by delivering on the premise they’ve set up 💚

Mmhmm, best part of the video! She deserves to ride the HW. She deserves to have fun at Costa del Sol. She deserves to return to Icicle Inn and find her parents’ tapes and see how much her dad loved her. She deserves to revive the Cetra with Cloud. She deserves the world for everything she did for it!!!

I couldn’t agree more. OG will always exist for the purists, but if they’re gonna tease changing fate they may as well go all the way in committing to that premise! 💚

Aww I love the way you put it, of all the things she could do and joys she’d take. Like how that was the tragedy of OG too, she had her unresolved issues but she was also the party member seeking freedom and expression of life. I don’t know honestly what I want with rebirth. I don’t want martyr Aerith or has to die to make a difference or save…I don’t want others dying either. Well maybe Zack to have stayed the lesser lost hero cause not big on glorified Zack. Don’t know if it’s a property they can really remake like they are trying, if the point is a fix to the FF7 or everyone gets a good outcome. I think I most want the story to still be about humanity and friendships giving each other a shot against the defeat of corporatism and destruction of self in pursuit of greatness versus the beauty we have in each other and life in the planet. I think they can do that with Cloud with reaching his goal of acceptance and scary maybe that means dead afterlife, or with Aerith living to heal her and him and everyone’s loss by enjoying life, or maybe heck knows Sephorith even changing fate to turn from jenova and science and the destruction to not want to end everything😅 we in for surprises anyways

I agree - I’m not sure what to expect with Rebirth, but what I do know is that they’d be foolish not to deliver on the changing fate premise they teased throughout Remake. They really need to commit to the deviations they’ve created, otherwise the whole Remake project has been creatively redundant. Why do OG with extra steps when they could’ve just stuck to a 1:1 remaster? Zack should definitely stay the hero of his own story and not the overall one. He was never an underdog, in fact he’s quite the Gary Stu and it doesn’t make him a very compelling protagonist in my opinion. He fulfilled his dream of becoming a hero before dying, he experienced the fame and glory he always wanted. I want him to learn teamwork and continue to support his best friend in being the best he can be. I think him and Aerith being chaotic extroverted besties together could be fun too - no need for there to be bad blood between exes. I’d personally love it if, after Sephiroth/Jenova are dealt with we actually get to address the systemic issues posed by Shinra. A big reason post-OG went so bad is because the people of Gaia weren’t prepared to be thrust into an apocalypse. If they’d had the time to hold Shinra accountable and create a new societal system which healthily balances the needs of people and nature, things could’ve gone much better for humanity in the long term. Because they had no adjustment period, I believe the 500 years later scene is meant to imply that humanity ended up dying out. But if they were given the time to transition and adjust, humanity could definitely still be around half a millennium later. It’s the perfect opportunity to bookend the story, by showing the optimal outcome for all the characters 💚

As soon as I saw it, I knew I HAD to use that to go with that sentence. It was exactly how I pictured Aerith reconstructing Cetra society, and I’d be so, so happy if we got a canonical depiction of her doing something like that! 💚

I hope Aerith lives and gets the usher in a Cetra comeback! Gaia needs to go back to its roots coz even if Sephiroth and Jenova go away Shinra is still there poisoning the planet

I do think there’s a way for humans to live comfortably while also living in harmony with nature - the existence the Weapons suggests that the Planet is capable of creating complex technologies. If humanity found a way to harness that for goals that mutually benefit them and Gaia, humans can continue to lead cosy yet sustainable lifestyles. A very solarpunk solution which I’d love to see happen 💚

Adding arbiters of fate that change destiny into the story would be pointless if the ending is exactly like OG. I keep preaching this, but the early fan base petitioned Nomura to bring Aerith back. Why not please the divided fan base? It would be a lucrative strategy for SE, otherwise they lose money with upset fans. I think the devs adding relationship bonds will change the outcome of the ending based on players choices. It is an RPG after all. She will survive, for sure, in my game😉

I agree - even if she does end up dying again, I believe she will be revived by the end of Part 3. There’s been WAY too many deviations and suggestions that there are multiple timelines going on for things to end the exact same way. Having her die in an “anti-Hollywood” manner once is fair enough, teasing fans with false hope only to permakill her off again would just be cruel and forever taint the FFVII brand and SE as a company. They’re already on thin ice as is, they KNOW many people are only sticking around because of the Re- project because their other ventures have been mediocre at best and outright unethical and scummy at worst. Re- project is already controversial for not sticking to being a script 1:1 remaster, so they may as well commit to a creatively refreshing route instead of awkwardly toeing the line between the two extremes and alienating EVERYONE.

@@Kabbaway Well said! As a Clerith fan, going on three decades, I would be devastated if the outcome remains the same. I’ve dedicated more of my life in the FF7 series than without. I don’t think I could forgive Nomura for a tease that harsh. Now we wait…

Definitely - as I keep saying, redoing OG/Comp but with extra misleading steps all the way to the end would be creatively redundant, not to mention completely disrespectful of the time, money and effort put in by staff and fans alike. Committing to boldly deviating from OG’s course opens up so many characterisation opportunities not only for Aerith, but for all her loved ones and for the broader worldbuilding. I’m hoping that we’ll see the catharsis to all this build-up but I guess only time will tell 💚
