The insurance adjuster wrote up the roofs on both of my uncle's woodsheds due to the Tornado and hail damage. The smaller (8x12) one also needed the entire outside replaced (about 18 years old). While the contractors were doing the house and ship/garage, I started cleaning out the smaller woodshed. Well, the floor was rotten. So, they started cutting sections out and all we saw was dirt. The support beams were completely gone. Despite being on blocks, the golfers and moles had pushed dirt all the way up to the entire floor. The shed wasn't even sitting on the blocks anymore! The shed was lifted up off the blocks by about four inches and sitting on fifteen inches of dirt! Rot, termites, and wood ants did a number on the shed. So, we just had them tear it down and we will get a new one later. As for the other shed (15x15), it is 60 years old and used to belong to the property across the street from us. The shed was built when that house was built, so it was built with the same materials. My Uncle bought it from the owners 35 years ago and had to disassemble it to move it to his property. It's pretty solid, but the small pecan tree he placed it next to grew a lot and the roots caused issues with the blocks he used for the foundation. To make matters worse, his property slopes towards the west, so all the drainage made its way towards that shed and created erosion issues that my uncle never did anything about. Factor in the moles and golfers, the blocks sunk into the ground and/or fell over. The shed sits about six inches to the south from where it was originally placed, and it sits about an inch in the ground. The whole bottom of the shed is still pretty solid, but it will never hold if we try to lift it and reset the blocks. We also found termites in the roof and some of the framing of the walls. So, he has opted to tear it down when he has the money and replace it with a new one. He plans to have concrete pads poured to set the new sheds on this time.
