Talk about role models, this man is living proof of that. Even though I was an Army Tanker and not in the Navy, I would have been honored to serve under his command. This world needs more leaders like him. To all future officers and enlisted men and women, remember his words and apply them.

I was at UT Austin in the NROTC a couple of years behind Bill. In the 1976 Cactus yearbook, he's standing behind me in the photo of Headquarters Company. I knew him, but never really met him. I flunked out of the program (couldn't pass calculus or physics) and enlisted in the Coast Guard where I used my training from that year in NROTC to help my fellow Coasties succeed and excel in the 9 week boot camp Coasties went through at the time. Bill and I and my oldest brother were all in the Buccaneers drill team at different times. We trained harder and longer than any others in the NROTC program and it paid off in instilling us with self respect, physical ability and confidence. That's what it is all about. You can't sleep walk through life.

Absolutely one of the best examples of true leadership and integrity. Humility, empowerment, ownership, continuous improvement, communication, standards... There are many managers, but not nearly enough good leaders.

I Graduated from The Naval Academy and went straight to BUDS training in Coronado California. I was in class 232. It was actually the worst time in my life. I was supposed to Graduated with class 231 but I got a stress fracture in my foot. After I was assigned to Team 10 we were in a training sickle. I was a new Lieutenant Junior Grade. I ended up leading a team. We deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq multiple times. My wife even though she knew what I did could not handle it. Let me tell you that combat isn’t like you see on TV, it really sucks. I met Admiral McCraven a few times. He talked to us before we deployed. He is an awesome person and a great officer. My time ended, I was a Commander. I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I only wish I could still be with my team they were teammates and also like brothers. I see them when I can. I actually am from Houston Texas, the same place as Marcus Luttrell. I have met with him many times, I also knew Cris Kyle. He was from Odessa Texas. Unfortunately I have seen them at many funerals. I was lucky to make it out

Utmost Admired Beautiful Admiral could I humbly add a detail: actions/behaviour etc. INCLUDE wives, spouses etc. of people involved AND vice versa. Came the day, when me as their dedicated leader had to learn, that UNKNOWINGLY I was sitting at their meal tables even day in and out, in whatever sense applicable.

The world will be at peace when everyone realizes that there is no need for leaders, as everyone can lead himself or herself. Those who say that they are leaders and inspirational speakers are doing it to exploit others, in one way or another. No one should lead nor follow. Please do not walk in front of me, I may not be able to follow you, Please do not walk behind me, I may not be able to lead, Please, just walk beside me and be my friend.

Leadership is not only knowing the troops but also knowing the "social ropes". There is not much difference between leading RELIGION, POLITICS, AND MILITARY PERSONNEL, as, in all of them, THERE ARE MATTERS THAT ARE BETTER NOT SAID, and it is not because of the limitations of human thoughts and the symbolic form of spoken and written language which, can be always be permutated and combined to depict, shadows and images of reality to cover the secrets in religions, politics, and military operations. In life, everything that matters most, cannot be said, and if it is hinted at, people will not accept it! Chancellor Willian McRaven is what he is because he is a very lucky man, to be born to a father who saw the "social light" so early and HE DID NOT CORRECT HIM WHEN NECESSARY, TO DESTROY HIS SOUL AND SPIRITS, AND SO MOLDED HIS SON BILL, to the required modern social tricks. His father was in the military and Bill McRaven, when young, entered that ammunition depot where he was detected by the police and he ran like Hell and dropped his toy revolver, then HE LIED TO HIS FATHER WHO DID NOT CORRECT NOR PUNISH HIM IN ANY MANNER, and that was the beginning of the best education he had, HE VENTURED, BROKE THE LAW, AND GOT AWAY WITH IT, and yet, he now advocates that it is a good start to punish young lads to be SEALs if they do not make their beds, and polish their belt buckles. His best education for being what he is came from his own father for NOT PUNISHING HIM FOR BREAKING THE LAW, when he went into that ammunition depot, and yet he spent the rest of his life being adamant and advocating that if you do not make the army bed and polish buckles and shoes, then spending a day in mud and icy water, is very good for you!!! Just brilliant! McRaven never talks about his hidden military motives behind that type of education/punishment he gives his SEALs, which is a totally different treatment from what his father, tacitly told him!!! The next best move was to take up JOURNALISM at university, a subject without absolute measure, where there is no tangible, guaranteed product ever produced, and this was another subconscious sublime lesson by his own father, to never to be self-employed to risk your own money, not to employ other people and not to be competitive to sell guaranteed useful products overseas. He took up JOURNALISM, for as he claimed, "That was where the girls hang out". From then on Bill McRaven exploited other people's talents and the nation's money, and through management, exploited the military boys who blindly obeyed, and when he made mistakes and killed a few civilians, he offered a couple of animals to say that he was so sorry, for it, he even went himself to say " Sorry Folks". Marvelous life indeed, to be a journalist speaking your way through life carefully selecting words relative to the audience one has, and like doctors and lawyers, who still get paid even when the patient dies and the court case is lost! As a journalist, and a public speaker, his work has no absolute measure and he STILL NEEDS TO READ his speech, even though he says that HE LIVED IT, but I am sure that was not in the manner as he read it! especially when he was chased by the police after entering that ammunition depot. With his writing talents, the White House even got him to compile a few words to the Papal Nuncio, who advocates," Though shall not kill," to say and to persuade the Papal Nuncio that to kill and go to war is legitimate, words which were not necessary, as the Pope himself often did it in the holy wars and even covered secrets, as religions and military authorities normally do, to hide the behavior of their own members. Shouldering his responsibilities by offering an apology and two sheep to an Afghan father who had his five sons killed by Mclean's boys, is not exactly a good sign of his leadership and responsibilities. The University of Texas, in choosing a person to act as Chancellor, who spent almost 40 years in the military and who never employed other people using his own capital, nor bought nor paid to maintain his own working machines and building that housed his employees, nor competed to sell his own guaranteed products overseas, one would conclude that the philosophies he advocates would be nonother than those he was used to in the military, which was not competitive, nor productive but only operational, backed by public funds. One should give some weight to choosing a person like William (Bill) Gates who spent his whole life as a self-employed person who had to risk his own capital, employing a number of local people and working hard to compete with the outside world, including China, India, and other upcoming countries, who are winning over both European and US industries. One would tend to conclude that Texas University will now be opting-out for the cheaper to run faculties as Journalism, Arts, Performing arts, Humanities, Law, Business and Management, Social Sciences, Accounts, Finance, Medicine, Nursing, Philosophies, Architecture, Psychology and Psychiatry, Theology, Divinity, Primary School Teachers, History, Languages, Politics, Diplomacy, Environment studies, Tourism, Economics, Home decoration, Caring industries, Sport and Athletics, and Gymnastics and Calisthenics, other professions where the students do not use nor buy any hardware from their own pockets but deal directly with people in social or military virtual tactics, including war games, safety national security logistics, work, society and self, where no tangible guaranteed product is ever produced. Thus Major products in Texas as, agricultural crops, including livestock such as beef cattle, calves, and young broiler chickens; cotton, greenhouse, and nursery products which rank at the top in terms of the amount of revenue generated in the area, all this will fall in production as the Texas youth will now seek equal gender professions and education, as in journalism (where the girls are numerous) and becoming military personnel or evangelists and public speakers, senators, attornies, magistrates and court Judges on YouYube, as Judge Judy and a few others, with those who went to kill Osama Bin Laden fighting between themselves to write and publish books and if they have the rights to the sell the story. after not realizing that to fly a $20 Million Helicopter near walls, would circulate the air around the main rotor causing it to lose lift, but it was very very ingenious to get a tall SEAL to lie down to measure a distance of 6ft 2 inches. It would be interesting to know whether he was in the helicopter that crashed or the second one that landed safely or was it the Chinook? I would say that if William McRaven, in addition to his journalism and public speaking he had to do his best to ensure that all his SEALs and the students at the University of Texas had fully understood the contributing parameters to the stability, and solution of a second-order differential equation, his vociferous leadership will not be necessary, as most people would become SELF SUFFICIENT in their thought, to decide on any stable and unstable system they meet, while being so sensitive and compassionate and never independent of friends and family around them.

The strange thing about working for terrible bosses, is that they teach us what not to do and how to be better bosses. Indeed, there's nothing more annoying than a micro-managing boss who hides his insecurity by trying to look over his employee's shoulder to make sure he controls what's being done and how. I will gladly do away with working for an incompetent boss. If only I could figure out they're insane in a 1hr interview!
