How do you say “AND” in Russian? Is it "и" or "а"?
It MIGHT seem a weird question;
In most cases, you’ll be using "и" for "and", I guess, but then, when do you use "а"?
Я говорЮ по-англИйски И по-испАнски
Я говорЮ по-англИйски, А мой друг говорИт по-испАнски
And let’s compare them to НО:
Я не говорЮ по-англИйски, НО говорЮ по-испАнски
If I had to put it in just a couple of words, I’d say:
И: similarity, Comparing 2 things w/ similar properties
А: juxtaposition, Comparing 2 things w/ different properties
НО: contradiction, contrast, Excluding smth in favor of smth else
That’s a quick explanation, in the video, we'll get into more detail with a number of examples.

    🤓 Michael V. made an important point here (unfortunately, his comment went away), "а" can often sound in English as "while, in the meantime, at the same time, whereas" and such. 0:44 - Quick explanation 1:13 - Examples for using "и" 2:06 - Comparing "и" to "a" 2:47 - Examples for using "a" 3:29 - Comparing "и" to "a" 5:28 - How "a" translates into English 6:29 - Explanation and Examples for using "но" 8:24 - Final words 9:15 - Exercise to the Lesson 👆 This video is a part of a Jump-Start Guide for Beginners learning Russian: kzread.info/head/PLpgpVaWoAiTEF8aNQvPnFCLBrtIeF3tqa

    Thank you for the good content on your channel. You should post more videos often on your channel as they are very much in detail and useful for learning. You explain things clearly, and your channel is by far probably the best russian learning channel on KZread. Continue the good work, waiting for more videos.

    It's merely fantabulous, your work is! Such a shame that sometimes so good a channel has only too few subscribers while some others, which are a real gibberish, actually soar up. Oh boy, are you a genius in teaching! So damn well structured everything, everything so legible and-gosh-so intelligible. Coherent and lucid. Please do keep on with that wonderful work of yours; keep afloat, keep your enthusiasm! ;)

    love the channel, but the Capitalization on the accent letters is driving my brain bananas. I'd rather see a regular accent mark on the letter. Just my 2 cents.
