Lesser Loved Les Paul? Maybe P-90’s Are Better!
Музыка
The Gibson Les Paul is known for its single cutaway, maple top and humbucking pickups. It is instantly recognizable but the legend actually began with single coil pickups! The original Les Paul guitars utilized single coil P-90 pickups to produce the legendary tone that took the world by storm. Humbuckers came later as a technological advancement to deal with 60 cycle hum that plagues singlecoil pickups, not as a tone improvement. Sadly there are many who have not experienced the sound of P-90s on a Les Paul but thankfully Gibson is offering them now with a beautiful tobacco burst on this Standard 50’s Les Paul.

I played guitar for 25 years before I bought a guitar with p90s.....Man was I ever missin something. Bought the SG special, and it wasnt long before I had to have the LP special.
I love the new colors on this and the Deluxe. They’re both cheaper than the figured top Standards as well.
at the age of 14 in 1967 my main squeeze was a 66 or 67 Epiphone Casino. Loved that guitar. P-90’s have all the tone I ever wanted.
Just picked up a new tobacco burst weighing 8.6 lbs, and couldn't be happier! Was thinking of a Special, but after picking it up and playing it, I had to have it!
My favorite combo on my LPs is a humbucker in the bridge and a hum sized P90 in the neck. Unreal how many tones you can get out of an LP like this. Add treble bleed circuit and WOWZA! I really never used the neck pickup by itself on my hum equipped guitars. So this has given me something. Other trick tho that helps me get more out of my neck humbucker is to use a .15 cab instead of a .22. It brings out more highs from the neck humbucker.
y'all are having way too much fun! Sweet sounding guitar.
My first LP was am early 80's Studio in a weird teal blue color, pretty great guitar, ended up selling it. 20 years later last year I got the P90 Goldtop standard, I love this guitar!
I've got a 2018 Classic Player Plus with P90's and I pick it up more than any of my other guitars bectI love the P90 tone.
I think the P-90 LP is the way to go. Just makes it so versatile and it looks cool as hell too.
Now you're talking! Have been a P90 fan for so long. My Gold Top/P90 LP is my "go-to" LP and that burst is gorgeous.
I finished checked my gold top, as can be seen in my two most recent.
that IS the Les Paul to own. just saying

100% P90s are where it’s at.
“P90’s Rock Hum-buckers Can Get-Bucked” I wanna make this t-shirt!
Such a great clean Country- and Rockabilly Tone in every position of the pickup switch! I still wonder why telecasters aren't overtaken by this type of guitars. If you go for heavy metal or hard rock humming might be a concern and you better head for a humbucker Les Paul. But in this case I'd personally go for a PRS or Jackson. Gibson Les Paul - be it P90 or humbucker- will always be a Blues, Country, Jazz guitar to me.
Pelham Blue top with natural back and sides is hard to beat
Gibson had a P-90 in their CF-100e, their acoustic with electric pickup.
The contrast of the creamy p90 against the tobacco burst is quite beautiful!
1:50 pretty certain the humbucker wasn't designed to get rid of tone...

I know, hah. After he said it the second time I turned it off.
1. What amp did you play through for this demo? 2. Any chance you guys will play the Heritage Custom Core H-150 for comparison? Love your demos and would love to hear what it sounds like with you guys playing it
Nice guitars, bro.
Larry Carlton L7V BK is the guitar you described then? :)
Go, Cooper, go,go! Yeah black top. Like that Martin I got from you!
I like the clarity of P90s, but not the hum. I have them in my Revstar and it's a lot of fun, but I need to get a noise gate.

Can firebird pickups be installed into P90 recess?

Great playing great video gents
They sound even better with a 25 and a 1/2 inch neck... 🥳
I never liked goldtops. If I had the scratch, I'd grab the burst...matches my 2001.
Creamier tone? I thought HBs had that cream..Especially those HBs in the Les Paul.. I still want a P90 Les Paul as my first Les Paul

Les Paul Special in TV yellow is THE p90 guitar to rule all p90 guitars!
Using an EQ pedal, I could make the p90 or humbucker sound like the other. The humbuckers have more sustain and power throughput and are noiseless; so IMHO they are the winner every time.
I have a 2016 Tribute T P90 Les Paul, it’s way lighter weight than the almost always super heavy current Les Pauls and has a much nicer top than that thing…and it was $799 brand new. The value just isn’t there for these current USA models, not worth it IMO.
P90s rule
P90s. Oh yeah
The best les Paul's all have p90s.
P-90's - the ORIGINAL Les Paul design and sound. (1952) Just sayin'........ 😁
