This video is a real blessing for all those who appreciate the real talent and skills of unsurpassed geniuses of the art of music. And whoever posted it on youtube ... thank him/her (whatever) to the gates of Heaven and back for this blessing !!! Well, now ... let's leave Slash and the great, late Les Paul aside, and... with all due respect to all the other guitar players of the known Universe, Brian Setzer is perhaps (at least for now...at this moment) the only one in the branch who can take me back to some mid-1920s and decade by decade back to present day ... without make me feel bored at all during that trip!! Whenever that dude lays his fingers on the guitar neck...I'm sure that some magic is going to happen! Even during his casual gigs, an attentive listener could notice that he's doing it with joy...from the deep within! And that's exactly what makes him one of the greatest guitar players alive nowadays!!! Once again thanks a million to anyone who posted this!!!

Where does Brian not swing? Even trading licks with Joe Bonamassa the man swings. Brian is a national treasure. He needs to be recognized as such.

Pat - I love it when some performers fly under the radar, kinda like 'our own little secret' . Big stars are sometimes a disappointment, over hyped, exposed, etc. But the more obscure talelnt is oftentimes superior, maybe because of it. One way or another, Brian is one of the coolest guys around.

Hi Chris, I was at this actual show at the Iridium with Les Paul. Brian Setzer, Slash, Dr John and someone else who I forget. Was it all filmed? There was a brilliant bit where Les was sitting playing next to Slash. He looked out at us at the tables then looked at Slash who was lost in playing, reached over and lifted Slash's long fringe up and smiled up at him. It was pure quality. Was it caught on video? I would love to see it. Slash was on the table behind mine. He was freed after being handcuffed naked to hotel bed frame later that night by the police. I saw it on the news the day after. Rock 'n' Roll....Quality. Great night, great food!

whatever. I used to greatly respect Setzer but now in combination with other things I've seen , I think he's a bit of an ass. Obviously he was wowed by Slash's uncanny ability and wanted to test him by playing something he (Setzer) probably learnt when he was 15 and has been playing for like 30 years... yeah good one. Had he tried a jazz/rockabilly duel off that would have been far more appropriate and interesting. Both of those guys have certain phrasing voices dominant in a few different modes/(whatever else you want to call a group of theories used at will). I know enough about Slash's playing and ways to know that you would have to really bring it to put him into a spot where he gets stuck. I haven't seen enough of Setzer improvising and I know that as a singer/player, whatever he plays is well rehearsed. So yea, I don't think your little comment was funny and I think it just makes you sound like a dick so don't talk to me like I'm stupid.

lots of stupid comments here written by people who don't know much about music. Brian Setzer is not underrated - he decided to perform and record in a genre that isn't mainstream but highly acclaimed by the critics. Slash played guitar in one of the biggest acts of the 80s - and after that didn't produce lots of relevant stuff. Lots of footage here on youtube makes me wonder if he really is outstanding - or not. But whatsoever: he was a part of guns and roses and is a part of musical history

Justin Beiber has been one of the biggest acts of the 21st century so far, popular doesn't always equate to incredible talent. Setzer is a jazz guitarist, any halfway decent jazz guitarist has no problem playing rock, but watch rockers like Slash try to play jazz, they are way out of their league. You aren't wrong to question his talent, he's OK I guess, but I never thought he had any kind of mastery over the fretboard, he and Axle Rose were the reasons I could never get into G&R, even in their heyday.

What do you expect? Slash would suddenly overlap over Brian's solo? He's only playing Rhythm.

  • @valcrist7428

This is Brian's performance. Slash didn't had the chance to play and just played Rhythm. I don't think he can just turn up his guitar and play over Brian's. That's an a-hole move and no expert Guitar player would do that. It's like someone is singing and another singer would suddenly overlap the other singer's voice..

Hah, Brian's a great guitar player to be sure! But isn't it funny that even when he plays a Les Paul he makes it sound like a Gretsch?? 😁

A guitarrist called Slash who only can play "hard rock" faster and louder jamming with Brian, a man who can play everything with to much technique. Brian is much better than this "rude boy" slash.

"whatever. Had he tried a jazz/rockabilly duel off that would have been far more appropriate and interesting."

Way out of his depth , this is not a loud mash up. Total finess is required. No distortion here! There's a a lot to be said about really good playing without a thousand amplifiers!
