Hey- Les won the Silver Sow, Copper Cob, and FIVE Buckeye Newshawk Awards for his reporting. It's not his fault he couldn't pronounce Mr. Chy Chy Rawdrigweez's name.

I recall this episode clearly. Chii Chii Rodrigweeze was classic. I howled in laughter. Too bad in those days I didn't have a replay button on my TV. I would've played it until my ribs broke.

Johnny's character was so good. Les' too. All of them were. A true ensemble cast. RIP Doctor and The Big Guy and Little Guy and Mama Carlson.

The interaction between Les and Johnny is pretty accurate for a shift/announcer change. I work with a news guy who is a lot like Les; dedicated but fixed in his ways/opinions and it leaks into the newscast, complete with overblown intros. Man is my friend and has been for over 30 years; but the resemblance is stunning. And he did win an award; so I always call him "The award winning voice of the ___-, xxxx." He loves it but doesn't get the reference. I even gave him a buckeye newshawk plaque and a silver sow--he loved it. Gotta love him though; despite his quirks he will do anything for his friends, and I am glad to call him one--we are all quirky.

I did news on a station in Nebraska for a short time. Had to do obits and one day I had to string out the story another 10 seconds or so and FYI there is no "n" in the word "cuts" when talking about "budget cuts". Our PD was filling in for the jock and we went to about 5 commercials before the obits because every time we looked at each other we'd crack up.

Ever since I saw this when it first aired I have always playfully referred to the golfer as "chai chai rodrigweez" when I would see him on TV in tournaments.

Several observations: 1. I can never read the name Chi Chi Rodriguez without pronouncing it like Les Nessman. 2. The announcer on Les's intro tape was the same voice that did the Superfriends intro after Ted Knight did the first season. 3. Dig the Kiss Love Gun poster in the background!

Hard t believe Les was only 39 or 40 years old here. I would’ve bet anything he was in his late 50’s or early 60’s when he acted on n WKRP.

Richard Sanders (who plays Les) said with the show's success, many people couldn't discern truth from fiction: they thought he was as incompetent in real life as on screen (Woody Harrelson suffered the same thing while on "Cheers").
