I’ll never forget seeing her in this role. Absolutely stunning!!

i saw her in this role like 4 times and each time she was incredible. she is an absolute FORCE of nature on stage- amazing presence, acting, and voice. it was like the role was written for her.

I did not know that Miss Kaarina becomes a Broadway actress before voice-acting. Her singing is beautiful! : )

I think normally holding the note out like that would kill the momentum, but her facial expression while she was holding it really showed frustration and made holding the note seem natural. I loved it.

i met her when she was a guest at our theatre workshop. she sang this for us. she is the sweetest person ever.

inside information for you... this was her final performance and the conductor joked for a long time that he'd make her hold that note forever and since this was her last night... he did! So not her fault, just so you know.

Wow. I was going to give the performance 4/5 stars, but then she got to the word "known". 5 stars, amazing.

The verses leading up to the big Noyes weren't my favorite. But by far her belting notes were my favorite ever. And even if she was showing off ( which she wasn't) she has the right to cause that girl can saaanngg

She usually didnt do that, the only reason she did that is because this clip is from the Closing perfomance of the original show.

I saw her as Eponine a few years ago and she was great! My friend and I got pictures with her and "Marius" after the show! It was an amazing experience!

okay the whole song seemed like it was just plain ok to me until it got to her 10 second "knooooowwwn" at the end and then i just got chills everywhere. that was pretty freakin cool.

I agree that she isn't the best .... not enough power behind her voice. But still a wonderful Ponine, and it's a treat that you share it!

Unlike a lot of Eponine's, she really acts the piece which is nice to see... she's totally in character and you can really see her love for Marius... plus her "known" was amazing.

My friends hate that she's so "staccato" but I was like "umm...hello? she's on the stage? there's supposed to be diction so people in the back can understand?" lol she's amazing. and that "known"!!! wow!!!

I saw diana kaarina (wong at the time) perform as Meg Giry in phantom and she was really good. Her voice was even squeakier then for the role. This is not my fave but she still does a great job- i wish I could sing that well! I think the real eponine in hugo's book was supposed to be whiney so the squeaky voice fits.

Yeah Megs tend to not be the strongest singers since she's usually cast based on dancing skills rather than singing (and yes I'm aware this is an 8 year old comment)

I'm not a fan of her voice, but I love that she extended "known" so long. It gave it so much more power, especially for the show's closing night.

Hmm, maybe it's because I've only heard Lea's, Sutton's, and a slew of foreign versions of this song, but I like Diana! People say she's weak-sounding, but I like how she's soft and quiet at first, and then gets progressively louder and more emotional. I think it works for Eponine. But that's just me...

I really think it's amazing that she held the not for as long as she did, but she totally breaks character to do it. She's an amazing singer just not my first pick to play Eponine. Pretty good overall.

@arrogantwormer that's fine. doesn't change my opinion -- the note is held for too long and it disrupts the number. i would have loved to see a video of a regular performance! she's great!

@snowwhiteluv28 I think this was the only time she did it. It was the final show so I'm sure she wanted to do something really dramatic. And the audience always go crazy for everything during the final show.

I've seen Kerry Butler, Sutton Foster and Diana as Eponines-I've been REALLY lucky:) But Kerry Butler is truly the best Eponine EVER. Her voice is just golden.

Hands down the best Eponine I have seen live (and I've seen my share). She's an amazing actress, and an equally amazing singer. I would actually take Kaarina over Salonga any day...in this role anyway.

Correction. She started voice-acting as Barbie in "A Fashion Fairytale" since the year 2010.

Now imagine Saffron Masala singing this. Or better yet, Roxie McTerrier.

@marcxxmaverick that is true. i love her voice and from what i've seen she was a fantastic eponine. and my standards are veryyy high. :] i still don't get how the audience all shut up at the same time, though..haha

diana is so beautiful! but why are people bashing lea salonga on here? lea salonga is wonderful, equally wonderful to diana, kerry, sutton, etc.

I don't think she's showing off at all. The 2 versions of Les Mis I saw, both Eponines held the note as long as they could. Besides, the crowd loves it.

I was totally into it until she held the "known" note for a year. I felt like it totally killed her momentum. And the audience applauding ruined the moment. Totally bizarre. But not as bizarre as the entire audience stopping their applause at the exact same time at 3:50...THAT freaked me out.

reminds me a little of katie holmes. with a better belt.

You'd think they'd at least get someone who can hit the low notes though.

for goodness sake...she held that last note for about four beats more than written. There is a point where it becomes less about the part/show/song and more about the applause the actor is after. Hop off it and don't break this song in half with clapping. Save that for your curtain call.

she held that note way too long. i mean i'm impressed that she could, but it detracted from the emotion of the song, which is what's important. if it had been 2 seconds shorter, it would've been much more effective

she's ok but not great.lea salonga really set the bar too high for other eponine that they'll be 4ever compared to her performance & the'll never be able to top her.

ew, did you say kerry butler was better than lea as eponine? GROSS. butler was awful as eponine. it's probably her worst role to date. i mean, i love her, but her eponine was hurrendous.

DID NOT LIKE the held "known". WAY show-offish and detracts from the song.
