Leopard is three times more expensive than k2. The explanation introduced in the video above is incorrect information. (The second-hand price is also more expensive than that) The performance is similar, but the K2 is a tank with more advanced technology. Who these days manually reloads and fires shells on the go? @@hibuddy1473 We don't expect any party to disclose their material composition, just the general specification for comparison purpose, otherwise what is there to compare with? Just a side note. M1 and Challenger are really old design, some upgrade perhaps were done on electronics and targeting system, but not sure on engine and other parts. So how would a platoon of M1 compete with Leopard2 or K2, driver competency being equal.

Leopards technology is pretty old

There are some errors in the information in the video. The German-made Leopard is about three times more expensive than the K2. The top speed was also similar at 72km/h and 70km/h, respectively, but as a result of running test in Norway, the K2's mobility was overwhelmingly good. What is certain is that the K2 is a more up-to-date tank compared to the Leopard, which is also important for future upgrades.

Leo's operating cost keeps climbing. It will be near 20 million plus.

K2 is a more future oriented platform as its ergonomics, compartmentalization weight distribution and modular approach is more current gen, but the current configuration of the Leopard 2A7 may be more powerful all-round, and should be compared with the M1A2 SepV3 or better. Norway is considering replacing our fleet of ageing Leopard 2A4's to the K2 Black Panther, as it may be more suited for our terrain/topography then any other tanks due to the Hydropneumatic suspension which offer great gun Depression/elevation angles on steep/hilly terrain and would be perfect for defensive purposes in mind, kind of like the Swedish S tank, also the K2 can be built locally.

If it is the same option, the introduction cost of 2A7 is 30-40% more expensive than that of K2. Perhaps, the reason why 2A7 is marked as cheap in the diagram is because 2a7 is a basic option with nothing installed, and k2 is a full option including trophy active defense and is displayed as a program cost. Also, as the K2 gradually increased its introduction by the Korean military, the unit price would have been lower in the meantime. 03:24 That is not also true. The 2a7 submitted to the Norwegian test and evaluation weighed 65 tons. On the other hand, the k2 is a new composite armor, and even if the armor is additionally reinforced, it is 61 tons, which is 4 tons lighter than the leo. It is against the laws of physics that a heavier tank is faster even with the same output power pack. In the actual Norwegian evaluation, the k2 lightly overtaken the leo running at top speed. And, surprisingly, the Norwegian evaluation revealed that the k2's defense was superior to that of the leo2. In terms of penetration, the 2a7 was a German-made armor-piercing projectile that showed a penetration of about 650mm at a distance of 2000m, but the k2 proved a penetration of more than 800mm with a Korean-made K279 projectile at the same distance. The k2 is superior to the 2a7 in defense, penetrability, mobility, communication function for fire control and air-to-air joint operation, and overall battlefield performance, while the price is about 40% cheaper. This is not the end. Since the contract was made to produce 980 k2s in Poland, a huge production plant and a top-notch repair shop in the center of Europe will be completed within three years. Supply of parts is no problem at all. On the other hand, leo's mass production line is currently at a standstill. It is clear which tank to choose for a wise defense procurement decision maker. Rather, the problem is that Korea is concerned. As a condition of selling the k2, Norway requested that Kongsberg's RWS be installed on all vehicles that will be installed on the Korean ground weapon system. It is an unacceptable state. Whether other terms can be negotiated through the concept trade will be the key to finalizing the contract.

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann is, I'm sure, aware of the cost differences and will aggressively seek to hold their market share with what is arguably the World's best, PROVEN tank. And, oh by the way, the Leo 2s are scheduled to upgrade to a new 130mm main gun that will engage targets at significantly longer ranges. Among other ongoing upgrades. These cost arguments are like comparing a base Hyundai with a BMW...

The Leos mass production line is on a standstill because they are making a new and better tank called the KF51. Better than either the 2A7 or the K2. Sleeker, has a 130mm smoothbore for much more punch. HERO loitering munitions. Better and thicker armour. Better power to weight ratio. Smarter, more modern. Only comes down to cost, but in war, there is no place for second best.

There is so much wrong with the „facts“ I this video, that it is painful to watch. Do your research and do not quote cardgames ...

German products have the advantage of excellent durability and experience in many European countries. However, Koreans are intelligent and always create competitive products. If I were a buyer, there would be no reason to buy a German tank that was almost twice as expensive at a similar level. And the K-2 tank can transfer technology and produce locally.

That's the reason why Poland decided for the K2 Black Panthers, as you wrote it already, they can build it locally and build new Jobs, that's actually the main reason. The K2 is much more expensive then the Leo by the way but in this case with a local build they can produce 800 Tanks cheaper without any import costs so yes, a very good deal indeed between Korea and Poland.

K2 have a lot of kompromisses which that the tank cannot be better than Leopard 2. The changes of engine and gear into korean is not good. I understand, that the license of the MTU is expensive but MTU and german Gear for tanks the best in the world. Other reason for german leopard is that the autoloader is no advantage before 3rd round. The second shot is manuell loaded always faster than every autoloader (for 120mm guns). So so first hit and second hit rate of leopard is so excellent, it doesn´t matter that the korean autoloader is faster after 3rd round. Next point... the actual Leopard 2 A7V use the optimized L55A1 gun from Rheinmetall. This gun have a penetration of 1.000mm... K2 only about 820mm. So finally the big advantage for K2 is only the price and the better weight-power rate because Leopard is more heavy. Finally... the Leopard 2 A7V is a tank which is over 40years in service and absolute long-term tested and very reliable. Who knows how good is the doosan engine and gear in long time because especially the korean gear made a lot of problems. Finally K2 is much cheaper but the better tank is the Leopard

@@bobthecanon3457 K2 is only cheaper for domestic production. (Korean Army) Other customers pay very high prices, like Poland paying 18m$ per unit. This includes licenses for local production etc but still, it is up to 10m$ per unit more expensive than upgrading the current Leopard 2A4 and A5 of the polish armed forces to Leopard 2A7V standart. Buying korean was a political decision, not based on technology, price or anything else. The PiS (polish government party since 2015) has consequently severed political ties and broke friendship and connections between germany and poland to antagonise germany for election campaign gains. The last stunt with the reparation claims is just the last example for that. (Poland has no legal claim on reparation payments from germany since 1950´s, where the sovjet union took over the reparation distribution regime, then in 1991 in the 2+4 treaties additional protocols, germany stepped back on any territitorial claims of former german territories, poland in reverse stepped back from any reparation demands for all time, closing this chapter for good)

SK is developing 70 tons heavy weight version of K2. SK is mostly mountains country, they never can see the horizon on their land. So the heavy version of K2 is not needed so far but they changed their thoughts after few times failing sales of the K2 for export especially after Poland. You will see the K2H in few years. ps. Thay are developing K3, the next generation MBT for their own. It's going to roll out in 2030

The K3 is predicted cost like almost all of the military budget, mainly because they decided to add a freaking reactor to the K3. They are deciding to keep the 130MM on the K3 which will be on future K2 (130MM rheinmetall) or a Railgun (Korean recoiless weapon I forgot how to say it)

I think direct 1v1 comparison isn't major factor. One does not simply buy single tank, but buy dozens at the least. It may vary on the terrain condition of buying country, but in general I would give more edge to K2 in terms of cost efficiency.

True but we swedes will wait for the MGCS programs tank instead. Why waste money on a tank that will be obsolete in a short period of time ones we move over to 130mm or 140mm guns. Active protection systems might get advanced enough to shoot down 120mm guns because of its slower velocity and ones that happens those tanks with those guns will be obsolete. Since I doubt there will be a redesign on the autoloader where it will be adapted to use higher caliber rounds. Since that would require a complete redesign of the tank. Its the current best tank in the world but ones MGCS and Abrams X tanks gets in to the field it will become extremely inferior to those tanks. This is just an other upgrade package of an old 1970s design that is soon going to be replaced.

K2 is better. It is 2kmh slower, but Has a lot more power to weight ratio, and its a lot more protected. It can fire to longer distances.

​@@ElJackale K2 is ligher because it is way smaller and has 1 crew member less. K2 has 1200mm thick armor frontal armor + ERA armor + Hard kill protection system. Leopard 2 has much thinner armor, has no ERA and no hard kill. Engine in K2 is Hyundai doosan dv27k, not the one from leopard. (EuroPowerPack is not the name of the engine ;) ) K2 has less armor on sides and bach than leopard 2 because koreans don't need side armor. Also K2 has much better crew protection against ammunition explosion. Leopard 2 has just only blow up panels and no other insulation. K2 has autoloader, so it reloads faster than leopard, and has more crew protection because ammo rack is fully isolated. Next time do some research before shouting your german bullshit ;)

k2 black panther is the best mbt inthe world, it was proved in 2024 dragon military exercise in Poland.k2 black panther hit the target 4kilmeters away in Poland .Among the other westen tanks including Leo 2A7 in March ,2024,in Poland ,K2 prided itself with outstanding performances.

Cost is always depending on contract and amount of units. You tend to get them cheaper if you buy hundreds of them. Germany bought back old Leopard 2A4's to convert them to 2A7. Cost per tank + retrofit was 7.3 million € per unit, so your chart is far off. According to MDR ("Central German Broadcasting") a new 2A7 costs 15 million €.

I think black panther better than leo 2a6 because k2 have better automatic reload 3,75s et can lock target from 9km it has a shell that can dodge obstacles and hit a vehicle in cover, k2 from 2014 , leopard from 2006, the technology in k2 better than leopard

@@markmilam3152 not as weak as the possibility of a crew’s disability. A bullet shot is all equal to anyone. But the K2’s bullet is fatal as it has implemented with KSTAM ammunition tech, from the longer distance (8km with KSTAM bomb in auto-guiding system). When you got punched in your mouth at the first place have no time to count on stars around your head. “Everyone has a plan, til they get punched in the mouth” - Mike Tyson By the way, K2 can still utilize the manual loader.

Why are we not comparing the new leopard a7? Witch is quite different from this older model

New upgrade 2020 for Leopard 2A7+: The new reinmetall 130mm L / 51 cannon is said to be a match for the T -14. As before, the new APFSDS type impact bullet will also have a core made of tungsten.

MORE than a match for the T-14 as the Russians themselves aren't interested in buying and deploying it. Hard to compete with a Russian tank that no one fields.

Leopard 2a7 costs more than 10 milion euros, leo 2a7v 12-13 milion euros, so its very incorectly, and on top of that those leos are upgrades from older standards like 2a4, 2a6 to 2a7 and 2a7v

The site 24/7 Wall St. lists the Leopard 2 as costing 11 million each, though it doesn't mention which version. Let's assume the A6 version that Germany is supplying. Seems relatively low for a modern, cutting-edge MBT. Wikipedia lists the 2007 price for this variant at $5.74 million and the more up to date price on the A7+ at 13 to 15 million Euros. Gotta hate inflation as it cuts into the budget something fierce.

Very inconsistent. At times we see Leopard 2A4 and earlier models. This dosn't really reasure me that the data used here is actually correct.

In the case of the "PT-16" tank, which was the main battle tank of Poland, the APS active protection system does not work when a smoke grenade is fired. Based on this fact, the Polish government wants to dismantle it immediately and prides itself on rolling homogeneous gloves (RHA). However, as a result of the composite armor test, there was an absurd situation in which it can even be penetrated by bullets. This is a serious situation.

Poland just acquired the first 10 of a batch of K2 tanks.

Autoloaders make use of ammunition belt under the turret, when it gets hit on top by anti tank missile, it makes a giant firework inside the crew compartment.

K2 has a different auto loader design which doesn't store ammunition under the turret. Russian tanks, indeed has ammunition belt under the turret which is famous for blowing its turret off.

@@TaeussKramme It is designed similar to a LeClerc, Type 90 which stores ammunition behind the turret separated from the crew compartment. Should it ignite, it should vent the explosion behind just like an M1 does.

1st, please get illustration right. 2A7 is not boxed but wedge shaped turret since most of 2A5s in service. It looks like a 2A4 shown here. 2nd, facts stated on the 2 MBTs have discrepancies as pointed out by several viewer comments. 3rd, overall, K2 should have a slight edge in certain areas of performance toe to toe being a 4th gen. Last, regardless of confidential armor, if purely on physical armor, my suspicion is the K2 may lose out in protection due to design of turret if without enhanced protection kits. Nice advanced look but seems slightly flimsy.

Türkiye and Poland have the leopard 2 but somehow decided to go with the K2 black panther in Lizenz production. I think they know more about the leopard 2 so that's why they decided to not use it anymore. 🇹🇷🇵🇱

It has to do with money. The Koreans are open for licence building ,where the Germans don't. It also means that the Koreans can deliver big numbers in short time. Poland is in a hurry and they have an factory which produces tanks and other big systems.

Poland's order for 1000 k2 tank from Korea was years ago and it's going on up until 2035. Than they can force the billions war reparations against 100 German tanks 😂 🙄

@@Nordlicht05 With big systems the connection between the seller and the purchaser will last as long as the system is in service, normally. I think Poland made a deal which is very good for all parties, even for countries who don't run K2 tanks now. Poland has a factory Huta Stalowa Wola (?) which have the knowledge to build tanks and armoured vehicles and Self Propelled Howitzers (KRAB) This factory was building licensed Russian tanks and own developments from that, so the knowledge is there. Korea is very good in serial production, Also indepth. For both Korea and Poland there are big opportunities in the EU. The Leopard 2 has first seen daylight in the early 80ties and it is constantly upgraded, but there comes a moment one should stop with that. The Leopard 2 A7 is like 10 tonnes heavier then the first Leopard 2. Many countries are on the brink what to do, buy new or not and many countries stopped tanks totally due to costs and logistical efford. The distance between South Korea and Europe was always an issue, How is that gonna work in a war, with enemy naval vessels and blockades. With production in Poland that issue is gone. So it offers countries more choice and it even may bring some financial benefits. And in Poland it will bring high skilled work opportunities.

Errr that comparison pictures does NOT show a leopard 2a7.

NOW,the two are competing in Norway for the next generation Norwegian M BTs.Let's wait and see the result.

I don't know where you get your info, but the unit cost of Leopard 2A7 is definitely not 5.75 million. Maybe it was in the 70's when the earlier versions of Leopard were developed. Unlike Hyundai Rotem (the K2 maker), KMW does not have a running production line for Leopard. That means that for small batch production, KMW cannot avoid high overhead and unable to offer the economies of scale. When Poland was told that 2A7 cost >$18 million a unit and >3 years for delivery for tanks that are a generation behind K2, Poland instead signed a contract for K2 in Aug 2022. I understand that the first 10 K2's have been shipped to Poland 2 months later. Norwegians have been testing these two tanks side-by-side and will decide very soon. I'd predict the Norwegians to follow Poland's example.

The exact composition of both armor packages is highly classified. Also the effectiveness of kinetic armor piercing rounds varies widely depending on which projectile is actually fired. Newer projectiles are generally designed to be less affected by ERA for example. So its important to specify which types of projectiles fired from 120mm L55 guns can be defeated by the armor. Otherwise it doesnt really tell us anything new as Id expect a current gen MBT to be able to survive hits from older kinetic rounds.

Main thing : To produce Leopard 2 , nobody knows how many years it will take. Korea , produces K-2 , K-9 , K-239 , FA -50 , and many things everyday.

@@seafirst1 The Leopard 2 is hard to picture as "unstable", that is unless you mean the ones rebuilt by inept workers abroad. Anything that can't shoot on the move is dead so that comment by you is clearly passed by reality. First-hit probabilities for the latest Leo 2s is extremely high and they frequently win NATO-sponsored competitions. The ones that K2s don't seem to attend.

K2 is better in every way.

Lot of mistakes in the comparison. First you use a symbol picture of A4 version, not from the A7 version. Also A7 has in Version A7A1 the Trophy Hardkill System. Nice to know that the K2 has a Autoloader. Can this Loader also "Unload" when you don't want to use the shell which is loaded? This is a main problem with all types of Autoloader and a big problem in the practical use. All other is just 4 stats...

To be fair, the Leopard 2 is like 50 years old.

It isn´t. You cannot compare anything lower than A5 to what is a Leopard A7. Only the outer hull remains nearly the same.

Not at all! The 2a4 just had it's 40th birthday and the veriants used today are all at least 2010 and younger, and variants like the 2a7+ or 2a7 v already exist but not really in service yet

No wait, they DID sell them and that's how they got the tech transfer for the entire lower chassis, engine, transmission, main gun (?), for all I know they even borrowed the Leo2's TRACKS! Hardly makes the K2 an original design if they domestically can't even produce the power pack.

Anyone else bothered that the photos were of earlier leopard designs and not the 2A7 variant?

That's 2A4 you have on the pictures not 2A7.

As a retired French tankist my fantasy was a Leo 2A7 with an autoloader. Now I dream of a Franco-German MBT for the next generation with autoloader of course ...

There was a prototype of a leopard with autoloader and hydraulic suspension like the k2 black panther. problem is the germans wanted a tank wich is affordable and balanced in all aspects. And it's a German-Franco project cause the germans came up with this idea and the germans are the leaders of the project.

You have no idea how leopard2a7 looks like.

The most important thing is the training of the crew anyway. You can have the best tank but it's useless in poorly trained hands. Just like in the Gulf war or Jon Kippur war.

@@TaeussKramme You're more likely to die in an T-72 than in an abrams. Needless to say that you don't send tanks when the enemy chairforce still has planes in the sky. Otherwise you have decent anti-aircraft weaponry with you. The T72 stores it's ammo around the gunner. In Western tanks it's in a sealed place in the back and a forth soldier gets it out and loads the tank cannon manually.

India is enough to substain long against China.....but then also we are forming quad alliance... With Australia India Japan and USA

Wow, I had no idea that the Arjun was so lousy that you'd have to compare it with tanks that are, at best, museum pieces. Both the M-48/60 and the T-62 are OLD. Think, "your mother" and add a few (?) decades.

There are 2 main errors in this video. First is cost. Leopard is 1.75 more expensive than Black Panther. Also, the speed of Leopard is lot slower in actual testing.

No, it is absolutely false. Germany paid over 7 million € despite using old Leopard 2A4 to convert. Building them from the ground up costs over 10 million €.

can you trust a video - when they are not able to show the right images of a Tank? They even showed an image of a leopard1. 🤣
