Leon is LOYAL | Snowfall (FX) Analysis

My final Snowfall video for awhile. I think Leon is one of the most redeemable characters in the Family. But, simultaneously, he does some things that are unforgivable.

    Leon had the forethought to protect his family.He learned from everybody else's personal losses plus Wanda getting strung out taught him anybody too close to the product could get addicted.He was already in the streets before the business so he also knew the worst thing you can do when you're out there is to keep a real connection to your family.It's one of the many sacrifices you have to make & sadly,not doing that is what Franklin's real downfall is going to be.Leon hated Manboy from jump because he's a good people reader & because Manboy sent workers to his neighborhood that could've killed him/his friends.He is loyal & Franklin knows it deep down.He should've listened when he was telling him he's the one that really kept everything going while he was gone.He wanted respect that the family was not giving him,he didn't really care about not being in charge.Franklin came back giving Louie all the glory instead making her & Leon equals.

    Franklin is a lost cause. I love the show and like the fact that the character (Franklin) is a smart Black man who takes charge of his own destiny but if his character is not killed in the end is somehow "redeemed" then this show is a complete moral failure. This show is [unfortunately and maybe even unintentionally] about Black people destroying themselves -- even more than about the government destroying the Black community -- and I refuse to make the protagonist (Franklin) in anyway a hero. The character of Franklin is literally a Black man who decided to destroy his own community for money. And by the way, I am a Black man. Great show, I do enjoy it, but you're getting the wrong message if you don't think Franklin is evil and, yes, a lost cause.

    @@simplymarvelous4983 that is simply ignorant. Yes, the CIA provided literally tons of cocaine but Franklin made it into cheaper and more addictive crack, and then initially handed it out for free to get as many people as possible addicted. The character literally said (and did) that on screen. He is literally peddling addiction and death to his own community. Plus, he literally kills or orders the death of several other (mostly Black) people. How are you justifying and trying to makes excuses for that? Indeed, like I said, even though I think the character of Franklin is despicable and evil, I do give credit that the character is the master of his own destiny. But being the master of one's own destiny also means you are responsible for the evil you cause. And Franklin, more than anyone else on the show, is responsible for the destruction of his own community in LA.

    Leon didn’t leave his family to drown he bought them a house and left them money what it was representing is that his mom got a taste of money and wanted more so took the money out of the yard that’s why he said there was 20,000 out there In 1983 that’s like 100,000 now she just wanted money not saying she was wrong she just thought that it would be ok

  • @JaneforShort

    @JaneforShort

    Ummm, no. Leon's mother took the money to pay for medical bills. She says it in the scene. This is one of the only scenes that she appears in. She isn't living lavish, or cashing in on materialistic things. She lives in that same house, works and takes care of his siblings. She even gives him the little bit of money that she has to help him flee. The scenes in that episode are clearly framed to show that Leon is on his own. Has nothing to do with his mother being money hungry.

    @@JaneforShort I know she wasn’t rich but if you look at his reaction when she says it how he kinda gives her that look there was 20,000 out there in sure you remember 1983 and how much money 20,000 was in 1983 it was a lot of money Dialysis is something that has to be done they wouldn’t expect the money up front they would make payment arrangements for a child especially if someone without a way to show the money would be looked at funny for paying it up front i don’t want to argue I actually thought your videos are one of the only ones that caught some of the things John was trying ti represent in the show maybe I’m wrong and I know that was one of her only scenes I’ve watched entire series 4 times looking for one thing that I can’t find again i truly think it might be the saddest television and one of the most important even though it’s fiction in some ways it’s realer then a documentary

    I still disagree with your characterization of the scene. A payment plan, sure. But how much do you think dialysis payments cost? I'm aware of inflation and how $20K would be like $60K today or something, but medical bills are expensive. It's not far fetched to think that she could have spent a lot of that on dialysis (which is meant to keep a person functional while awaiting a kidney transplant). It also isn't common to have dialysis and no other health ailments. Also it being something that "has to be done" doesn't mean much. There are people dying because they can't afford the insulin they need to live. Big pharma is and always has been money hungry. She also had to get Leon's sister treated for a dog bite and to get the kids things they needed for school. The scene wasn't about Leon's mother or her desire for money. The scene was about how Leon had gotten so caught up in his obligations to Franklin and the projects that he'd lost his way. He'd just killed a little girl while participating in a turf war he knew they couldn't win. After that, he took a critical look at all of his actions up until that point (including leaving his family to drown, also remember that we never see them again) and that's why we see such a huge change in his development. We don't have to argue at all. I just reply to comments for the algorithm ❤️
