Leokwe Camp | Mapungubwe | Mapesu Private Reserve | Safari with Friends 2022 | Episode 4

On 26th December 2022, we left Durban and headed towards Kruger National Park with friends for a safari trip to bring in the new year.
For this trip, we decided against camping due to the extreme heat at this time of year, and sought out some affordable family chalet and tented accommodation along the way.
Our route and itinerary consisted of the following camps and stops:
1. Premier Hotel, Nelspruit
2. Mopani Camp, Kruger National Park
3. Dumela Wilderness Safaris, Pafuri, Mozambique
4. Mapesu Private Reserve, Wilderness Tented Camp, Mapungubwe
5. Leokwe Camp, Mapungubwe National Park
6. Mohave and Serolo Camps, Tuli Wilderness, Botswana
7. City Lodge Hotel, Fourways, Johannesburg
In this episode, we stay at the Mapesu Private Game Reserve in the Wilderness Tented Camp before heading over to the Mapungubwe National Park to stay in the Leokwe Camp chalets.
We have several sightings along the way, despite some rain, including elephants in camp and a fantastic and rare lion and brown hyena sighting around the Mazhou campsite in Mapungubwe!
Follow this awesome round trip with us!

Another great video, thanks Jason and family - how cool was that shot with the elephants in front of the little pool, could've shared a beer with them 😁Safe travels, cant wait for the next one!

Hi Jason. We went to Mapungubwe this last October. Cant believe the difference between Summer and Winter/Spring, was very dry and the waterhole hide was completely dry. Next time will check out Leokwe it looks really nice. Also glad to know Platjan border is close by as we will also go to through to Tuli Wilderness as Pondrift almost always not crossable.

Howzit! We absolutely love Mapungubwe - it is so beautiful and scenic and we were lucky with sightings this time. Summer certainly is beautiful but very hot, so leokwe camp with aircon and the amazing pool is just bliss! Tuli Wilderness also has a pool at each camp, and the Limpopo is usually a bit more full so it makes for some beautiful scenery too. You may even get to see the carpet of yellow devil thorn flowers that cover the landscape at Tuli and that really is something special!!!! All the best!
