I honestly thought a not KZread app was giving me a better image at the same resolution as the official youtube app. So in focus, so clear, so much detail, textures. Comparing, the two, it's the quality of this video, the different app was a coincidence.

Hey Bill, Great video! One note though, QHD means Quad HD. This means 4 times 720 or "high def". 2560x1440 is 4 times the pixels count on 720p. Nothing to do with 16:10 aspect ratio. So this screen has 4x the pixel count of a steam deck as 2560×1600 is 4x the 1280×800 resolution on the deck. Looks awesome! Probably sticking with my deck for now though. Thanks for the info in this!

And it looks like Lenovo did a fairly good job regarding the design and functionality. Let's see how the support will be for the next year. And what mods/repairs can be done to it (cause imo, that's what seems to keep the SD way above competitors).

I almost need a video showing someone booting it up for the first time to figure out where it lies between the pc gaming and console gaming worlds. I personally like being able to go to any website, listen to spotify, or stream on the same system as I'm gaming on. How much this fits that pc mold will determine how much I enjoy it (and potentially a future purchase). I was stoked seeing a system similar to a nintendo switch, able to play my favorite games, with a mouse that I've always wanted someone to design. Edit - Nvm I'm sold I saw the flash of a pc desktop screen at arround 10:44. That's enough to convince me it's still a PC.

Most informative review so far! Sadly, the part where gyro doesn't work when detached is such a silly oversight.. Personally, I am holding off for a revision or maybe a 3rd party controller that would allow me to play shooters without using this gimmicky fps mode. It may work for some and may be good in niche cases, but I'd 100% rather have gyro in the right pad. Seems like lenovo needed a unique selling point and they've done this just for the sake of it.

This looks like a great device. The only problem i have is key bindings. It doesn't seem to be able to change the bindings on the device itself. Yes it can be done within game but ... Is this something that may be added later within the UI? Can it be done in Steam's controller configurator? Also it would have been nice to have that second touchpad but that i can overlook. Otherwise this looks like a really fun device. I have a midrange PC at the house. I barely turn it on since i got my Deck. I'm not much of a graphics or fps snob. This like a pretty good step up. And without the compatibility or anticheat issues that the Deck has. Honestly not worried about the ecosystem too much (except for the performance tab). I'm curious how well those gold pins on the right controller will hold out over time. It would be nice if Lenovo or other third party releases a type of cover for those pins to protect them against prolonged exposure to sweat/grease from the right hand. Better safe than sorry imo...

Great video! Attention to detail is amazing. Gyro not being able to emulate a mouse is disappointing. Makes it less useful for FPS games.

When it comes to these handhelds, a VRR screen is good for games where the fps won't go high enough as the screen refresh rate. So let's say 40fps looks WAY smoother on a VRR screen than 40fps on a non-VRR screen. A high refresh rate screen means nothing when you're playing a very demanding game at 40fps, but VRR shines in this scenario, however. That's why I consider the Rog Ally a better contender to this, in the screen department ofc.

800p integer scaling on 1600p screen to get that higher fps, no?

  • @provis83

Doesn’t quite work that way. VRR just syncs the refresh rate of the screen to what the gpu is producing. This helps because if they aren’t in sync you have to wait for the actual screen refresh as well. When out of sync it can produce screen tearing, jutter, and a feeling of choppiness. That being said if you cap your frame rate at a setting you know is always achievable and it’s divisible by your max refresh rate you can have a similar consistency. Where VRR helps is when you have inconsistent frame rate. So you are running a game between 50-70 fps depending on load. It will generally feel smooth. However this is a fairly large swing and the response time time still might be noticeable.

@@frdsg8350for steam deck settings perhaps but 800p isn’t exactly a common resolution outside of the steam deck and many games don’t even support it.

I thought you could force native pc titles via custom resolutions from graphics driver? that's a bummer, i thought could run 800p as the rule minus some exceptions, but you are saying its actually vice versa ?@@provis83

How does the FPS mode sensor do on non-flat surfaces? I've had some portable bluetooth mice that worked decent enough for some light FPS (like Campaign where you don't really care if something occasionally goes wrong, not like online multiplayer) on say a leg in jeans.

Thank you for the good video😁 I'm curious about the battery. I've seen several videos related to Legion go, but there's no word on how much it runs, only talking about the battery capacity. I think batteries are an important selling factor. How is the battery time? If it's forbidden to comment, please leave three heart emojis😂😅
