    This dude deserves more subs. I've watched a lot of videos regarding the Legion Go. This is practical and down to earth reasoning and good advice. The Legion Go is nice, I have one, and I like it, but I prefer my Steam Deck for most of my mobile gaming for the reasons mentioned in this video. I agree that there needs to be time for Lenovo to refine the device and I look forward to seeing what they will do. Well done, great video. The best I've seen so far for the practicality of it all.

    I am impressed by Legion Go's screen. Phenomenon colours, huge screen, 144hz and 2k resolution. I stream my games from my computer to the all over the house and the games look stunning. They also look really great when playing stand-alone (non stream). Obviously, software quirks need to be ironed out, but I am really impressed with it, much more so than my old Ally. I also ordered the Oled Steam Deck and I will compare them when it comes.

    @@steverich9979 Thank you! I agree with you 100%. The legion Go is getting down play big time for no reason. I own a Steam Deck and I had more issues with it more than the Legion Go. People forget that the Steam Deck play less games, That the Steam Deck needs more tweaks or needs third party apps to function, and because it is Linux, it is almost impossible to mods games. Not only that, the performance is lacking. But sadly, no one will tell you that.

    By far my favorite review. Everybody is nitpicking and seems like they had their mind made up before the device even came out. Half the things I see on Reddit and elsewhere, even on KZread people don't even own the device and have critical things to say. How quickly we forget the Ally I returned it four times. Steam Deck three are RMAs. We find the need to like one device we must hate the other. I like all three for different reasons and have issues with all three for different reasons. I made a post elsewhere regarding the Ally, it was only three short months ago we were talking about storming the castle regarding the SD card issue, a Band-Aid type fix like just raising fan curves. Now everybody's using the ally as the standard that must be met. Once again don't get me wrong I own all three devices steam Deck, Ally and now go. And by the way all the complaints about the Go are all software related and can be easily fixed. Except VRR of course which 90% of the people that complain about it couldn't tell the difference anyway, they're just in an echo chamber..

    Nice review man! Interesting take on the RTS mode. To me what matters the most is handheld FPS gaming. So I kinda like the FPS mode but it's not going to be my main use case. But I'm digging that huge improved screen like you said and also the extra performance on top of the Steam Deck. My worry is that with fps mode going on the trackpad may be a bit of an afterthought and you can't really use it for aiming in games. Have you tried it out to see how it works?

    Great Video! I agree with almost everything you said. I’ve also been surprised by some of the seemingly negative press the go has received in other reviews I’ve watched. After using the go for a little over a week now it is a great machine with excellent design choices. Legion space does need some tweaking, but it doesn’t have any big concerns for me in its current form. I also own a Steam deck that I don’t really intend to return to after using the go. The only things I don’t really agree with is that I think the kick stand is awesome and the speakers are fine (but not great), definitely good enough for me.

    VRR is noticeable with FPS’s like RE7, just completed it on both the Ally and Steam Deck. VRR enabled me to complete the game at 1080p max settings, it’s so good. I can’t go back no matter how promising the legion go looks. FOS mode looks insane, definitely for RTS and competitive shooters. The $750 price tag for the 1tb model is tempting for sure.

    No VRR on a 60 Hz display is significantly different from no VRR on a 144 Hz display, the higher the refresh rate goes, the less benefit there is to VRR.

  • @jeffreyharness3582

    @jeffreyharness3582

    VRR is specifically designed to make large frame rate jumps smoother between the transitions. It does have limits… on the Ally it doesn’t kick in until the frame rate hits 40 fps. So the games you’re playing would need to be able to at least hit that magic number to be able to make use of the feature. With today’s AAA games and the Z1E APU in these systems, it’s hit and miss on whether you’re able to get the frame rate up to that magic number. But on games where you can hit that limit, it really is a night and day difference when it kicks in. I agree that on a lot of AAA games you probably won’t notice it on these systems… especially if you play on the higher resolution settings. But if you dial the graphic settings down it really is very noticeable.

  • @bassdeff8819

    @bassdeff8819

    7 ай бұрын

    @jeffreyharness3582 but at 144hz, the benefits of it are negible. It doesn't really matter if your frame rate is fluctuating because the display is pretty much always ready to receive a frame. Any microstuttering or frame tearing goes largely unnoticed. Definitely not a deal breaker for many. Because they didn't have to spend money on VRR they were able to spend the money elsewhere. There is a lot of potential with the detachable controllers. It opens up the door to possibly getting 3rd party accessories with different button layouts and features for different types of games. Someone who like MMOs or RTS games might want a left controller with a few more hot keys. Someone who primarily plays fighting games might want a different D-pad. Racing and dog fighting games can make good use of the gyros. There are a lot of possibilities to tailor your device to meet your exact needs by not going with integrated controls like the Ally or Steamdeck.

  • @jebril

    I agree with the points made in this video. the lack of VRR is something that I was initially concerned about, but after owning it, its a feature I don't miss at all. Yeh the "portrait" display is a complete nothingburger. If someone is able to find one of the rare games that have issues, they can also find the solutions. VRR would be nice, but it's not a dealbreaker. Wish the battery was like 60wh as well, but 49.2wh isn't terrible. Speakers are probably the biggest miss, but seemingly Lenovo has some solutions incoming that will make them better at the driver/software level. The 8'8 screen is in a class of it's own, and the 144hz is actually relevant for shooter games, where FPS mode helps make it easily the #1 handheld for shooters. Strategy games is another thing that it excels at with its massive screen and ability to be a proper vertical mouse. The reviews are nowhere near positive enough considering how solid the Legion Go is. Honestly most of these reviewers listed are just major fanboys of the Steam Deck, eventhough it's strictly worse in nearly everyway. The new Steam Deck Oled claws back some of the beating the obsolete steam deck was taking, but even still it's looking up at the King, the Legion Go, from it's perch on the silver medal stand.

    Maybe it’s because I don’t have a dog in the fight, but each of the major devices, The Deck, Ally, and Go have plenty of KZreadrs who took issue with them. You say the Ally didn’t get enough criticism, but I remember seeing several videos where people claimed the Ally was getting too much criticism…even some that were blaming users for their SD card issues after Asus admitted the issue. My point is we see what we want to see. The Go is the new kid on the block, so the scrutiny will be higher at the moment. But the Ally and the Deck went through the same thing. Things will calm down once Lenovo gets the software issues ironed out.

Once all these are smoothed out through patches and updates it will stand alone as the king of handhelds. These arent design flaws, theyre software flaws. They can be fixed.

    Your honesty and obvious integrity is soooooooo appreciated. I ordered the Steam Deck Limited Edition Oled but to be honest, I was never happy with the performance of my original Steam Deck. The Oled will look better but the performance gains are minimal. After watching your video and Hubwood's video, I'm cancelling my Oled Steam Deck order and getting the Legion Go. The Legion Go has many bells and whistles that I like. I'm going to Best Buy today. Great video and Thank you. (I want oculink port so I like the gpd win mini but if ayaneo flip ds would happen and it would have oculink port then that's my dream) I agree with you the legion go is currently the best windows handheld "right now" and that the Steam Deck is still really relevant because of SteamOS and all the optimization that they did

    thanks for the detailed clip! My only reservations about the Legion Go were portrait mode and being able to turn it off-mid game & power it back to resume gaming without issues. Seems like portrait mode really is overblown by reviewers and is really a non-issue after watching ur clip. I just got a steam deck oled yesterday, and LOVE it everything about it, but really disappointed in how so many games in my library don't work on it or need tinkering to get it to work. It's been more of a hassle than I thought when everyone is hyping up. I think Legion Go, with it's versatility / performance and having Win11 is actually an advantage since you can play just about anything on it is better all around. Gonna see about swapping this Steamdeck for Legion Go.

You said a lot of what I've been thinking too, the other reviews went into depth about stuff that doesn't matter to me that much. Like you said - who cares about portrait mode or VRR on a handheld?! I wouldn't have even thought about it. I love this device so far. I never even considered a handheld before this device for two main reasons... #1 screen size, and #2 RTS!!! like you said. All my PC games are RTS or God games. Detachable controller for a mouse - gamechanger!

    I def like that lenovo are trying something different Idk if I would personally care for the mouse action, but I would like the detachable controllers for having the tablet by itself. I play on pc because I like the options, but I play with a controller because I don’t want to use mouse and keyboard… i don’t want to factor in a table to be able to play. I recently got a steam deck because I wanted the controller and I wanted to use the thing in my hands… not on a table. I think the VRR support is more of a personal preference thing. Kinda like people saying an oled screen is a ‘game changer’ when it’s certainly not going to affect game performance. Idk maybe I’m not superficial enough. Either way, all handheld pcs have their pros and cons and I’m glad we’re getting some awesome options.

    the speakers are on top because joys are detachable.. they have to place it somewhere other than the joy sticks. if am an engineer.. i would make small holes on the sticks near the screen on each.. and let the speakers blow from sides and the joys if attached will redirect the sound to your face through holes.. when joys detached the sound will blow from the sides giving better surround effect compared to top.
