Lenovo Legion Coldfront HyperChamber Cooling System Explained

Ғылым және технология

Ready for a deep dive into what could be the best laptop cooling system yet? Lenovo has launched a new Legion cooling system for its mainstream gaming laptop range. It’s called Coldfront: HyperChamber cooling. But what is Lenovo Coldfront HyberChamber cooling? How does it work? And why does it provide better laptop cooling? What does a Lenovo Legion 5i teardown now look like?
Technology journalist Chris Stead spoke to Lenovo’s Gaming Category Manager, Clifford Chong, for details on why Coldfront: HyperChamber is such a significant upgrade to the Lenovo laptop 2024 range. It creates a hyperbaric chamber, which drives hot air out the back of the laptop akin to a wind tunnel. This video also features a Coldfront: HyperChamber guide and Coldfront: HyperChamber teardown.
Coldfront: HyperCHamber can be found in the Lenovo Legion 5i, Lenovo Legion 7i and Lenovo Legion LOQ laptops. And as you’ll learn in this video, there are plans to bring it to the Lenovo Yoga series next and potentially the Lenovo Legion Pro and Legion 9i laptop as well.
Is this the most advanced gaming laptop cooling system on the market? The HyperChamber thermal technology is certainly impressive on paper.

    This is probably the best video about the topic. Their cooling design turned out to work incredibly well and efficiently too.. It really just seems to come down to optimizing the airflow as much as possible I'll be trying to see if there are any ways to apply this concept to my current laptop, the asus g16 2023. This model has a 3rd small fan that is supposed to push air into the rest of the system, but it really doesnt seem to make much of a difference as the air barely manages to escape through the back. Maybe using some foam to redirect the airflow directly towards the back like they did with these lenovo laptops might bring some improvements in the cooling. Great video dude

    Very detailed video. I have one question. How durable do you think the foam on the back panel is that eventually creates the hyperchamber. I'm a bit worried about the durability of that foam and the dependence of the whole cooling system on it.

  • @motivatedtravel

    @motivatedtravel

    I don't think it's fully dependent on it, but it does play a key role. I think you'll find it's pretty durable. It didn't feel like a cheap foam to the touch, but rather dense. Lenovo aren't the kind of company to take a shortcut there imo. Maybe if you were taking it apart all the time and putting it back together? But that was happening in demos all weekend at this event and I didn't see it looking impacted.

    I got a question, i want a 5i 2024 i9 14th with 4070. Should i buy the pro or this one? This new cooling system is reliable in this configuration ?

    Depends how much you spec it up from the base model. You can spect the i up to a point where it feels like a Pro in some instances. The cooling is reliable, but you may want to keep your eye on the new Snapdragon Elite X laptops coming out like the 7x. Because it should help one of the biggest issues with the current squad of gaming laptops - battery life!

    They took us through some bench-testing off camera, and it was very thorough. The results looked reliable and impressive. The audio differences between pre coldfront and post coldfront of laptops with same specs was significant!
