LENNOX NO COOLING CALL
This was an interesting Lennox no cooling call where I found one of the two compressors disconnected. Once I tested everything I went ahead and re connected the compressor and found it to be working properly. I went ahead and checked out the second stage and found that to be short on refrigerant.

It would have tripped me out to find a disconnected compressor not knowing why , I'm not sure I would have had the cojones to plug it in again, but now that I've seen you doing it and taking the appropriate steps , looks like I'm gonna have to grow a pair ! Thanks again, Chris , man's getting better just by watching your vids in the comfort of man's home !👍

I am amazed how many technicians don't know that you need an ohm meter that reads millions of ohms to find a grounded compressor. Most FLUKE clamp meters only read in the thousands of ohms. Amprobe or Fieldpiece are my favorites.
In 4:35 you can see that you reversed blue and yellow wires on the compressor contactor like Jimi Park wrote before me .!!!
I just started the trade a month ago after graduating from the trade. Your knowledge and KZread videos have help me so much and I hope you keep making more content. I appreciate the time you put into these videos

Very good commentary on this especially when you encounter a unit like this with so many unknowns, (one compressor disconnected, one stage not working 100%). You hit all the major diagnosis points and this where your experience comes in. Sometimes these can be frustrating and you can get lazy like not recover the charge and measure, etc. This way you know where the starting point is. Awesome diagnosis and fix to an old unit to give it some life again. I did notice you got the BTUs back up to about 10 tons at the end. Could have ended differently for someone that doesn't have the experience or desire to diagnose. Great work Chris!

Good job, nothing wrong with taking a little extra time to get the unit running better for the customer. Compressor running backward can confuse some newer techs, good job explaining that.
Not a hvac guy but I've been binge watching your channel. It's all pretty interesting and you explain everything so anybody can understand. Your troubleshooting skills are awesome. Being a maintenance tech myself I can appreciate the skill. Lol Keep up the good work :)
I LOVE that sound at 7:00 !! Stereo compressors
Great video, thanks for the great content as always Chris
Liking the 📹 as normal you sort out the customers problems where others has failed at least u go through every part of breaking down the units
Like the troubleshooting. Keep up the great vids. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Good job and good practices I enjoy watching your videos, one day I will get some of those wireless probes. God bless you.
I worked for an outfit that guys didnt understand phasing. They put 3 compressors in one unit. The fourth I installed and made sure phasing was proper..never had an issue with that unit after that. Strange things people do at times. When you run hard and many many hours to make money mistakes happen. You guys out there running 24hr shifts aren't good for yourself or customers. Be safe out there.
You did smart with the rotation. I have seen that before with it being missed by many including myself! Great observation!
Enjoy your videos. Sitting at home waiting for hip replacement. Picked up a few tips watching. One thing I would cation you on is pushing in contactors. Especially 600 volt. I’ve heard of a coworker having a contactor blow apart in his face. Play safe
Thank you again for your videos.
always good video thanks Chris
"Someone" disconnects a compressor and it becomes a mystery. Why don't you commercial HVAC techs place service tags on those AC units?
this was a really good video. appreciate it. had a call the other day bad fan motor. went out and replaced the fan and didnt come on. so i was thinking it was defective till i started looking at the cap and contacter and everything was just hooked up randomly. really odd. i think so body the lady knew came out and tried to help or something because it was some crazy stuff.
Splendid work sir!!
Great video Chris!
Now that's how you troubleshoot ... Good vid Bud ...
Great job again like always

when you connected up the compressor the first time, u had it red blue yellow , where as line side was red yellow blue as the otherside was. unsure how u determined how they had it hooked up previous

I usually check a scroll with an amprobe, wrong rotation=low amps, then put my gages on if needed.
You should have your company get you guys service tag note stickers to stick on the inside panel of the units so you can write down notes after every call to help the next guy. We use them and there helpful

Great video. I bet it was a phase rotation the whole time.
Own it.. I teach all my apprentices to write dates and initials on filter changes. Write with marker brief parts changes or disconnect of parts on doors. Write dates with paint pens on ALL parts with initials. I dont except less from our apprentices I and us other journeymen teach.
5:29 spinning backwards LOL
If you look at the top of the contactor, you will notice that the phases are placed in different order than the other one. That maybe was confusing.
Those 1/4 end caps at the top of your gauges are nice. I’ve been looking for them but can’t find them. I have smart gauges with a couple tee so I don’t really need gauges at the top either
Nice!!!! ( you never checked the contacts on your contactor!!! That could cause dropped phase intermittent even!)
If I ever decide to move to California ill hit you up to see if you need a tech. 😊

What’s the reason you tip the recovery tank upside down? And is the hose connected to the vapor side of the recovery tank?
There is no excuse for goons destroying a 9k coil. Wow. Bet that works on you with your work ethic. Angroso!
should have taken the cover off #2 compressor and compare wiring. if there is not a liquid port, i install one, fast fill with liquid the units charge.
Is there any other cool hvac apps like that or maybe for diff brands
Chris what setup of gauges is this, is this iManifold, ooops sorry asked question before I saw your Bluetooth gauges, near the end of video, looking into a new setup
My guess just by the sounds, that the compressor was running the wrong way. I even patted myself on the back 👏 im commenting as I watch and I was thinking overcharge too. Maybe dirty condenser but I doubt it.
Hello Chris , why dont you use a Insulation tester (megger) to check the compressor and give you a better reading checking Megaohms or even a Fluke. I just dont trust the fieldpiece.

chris soto here is some text from the Copeland tech bulletin # AE4-1294 I will paste the bulletin link at the bottom "When using megohmeters to evaluate the motor insulation of compressors, it is important to understand that they should not be used as one would a volt-ohm meter. A single megohmeter reading gives little insight into the condition of a motor’s insulation. Megohmeters are best used as a part of a regular maintenance program to monitor trends (over several months). For example, one might record a megohm value and compare it to a previous reading. If subsequent readings show a trend of lower and lower values, then corrective action (such as system clean up) should be taken." opi.emersonclimate.com/CPID/GRAPHICS/Types/AEB/ae1294.pdf

Only Lennox uses approach temp. Better off checking for proper subcooling and superheat.
4:15 the usual way it's done is called shunting, the crankcase heaters are wired to the line side of the contactor, when the contactor pulls in, the compressor (being the larger load) takes most of the current, thereby reducing to nothing the current going to the heaters. When the compressor shuts off, the heater energizes again........i think LOL

@@HVACRVIDEOS Is the approach method alone good enough to assess one of these units? I would assume you would also want to assess the discharge temp in some fashion as well to ensure it actually has the correct charge in it. I do it all the time by simply feeling the liquid and suction lines to get a quick reading on how well a system is working, but it seems odd that they would use that as the sole basis for assessing the charge. Probably good for a new unit but seems sketchy on something that's out in the field and is old and crusty.
I wanna buy me the fieldpiece gauges from your affiliated company. Do they ship to the UK? I currently service vehicles for now and these gauges are 75mm but there might be reducers available on the internet. I wanna replace my old dial gauges with the long-ass hoses that leak gas (R134A). These fieldpiece gauges don't leak. I was thinking about using PTFE on the reducers and screwing them into the wireless gauges.
