One tip : Make sure you get 16GB of RAM, you may think you don't need it now but you will need it later. It's also easier to sell it in the future to fund your next Mac.

Don’t listen to this tip, 8gb goes a very long way in the MAC realm and resell value wouldnt mean anything when every generation is improving quickly. 16gb is really needed when your an insane editor with a whole of apps opened at once. This future proof gimmick is nonsense.

@@mza2001 8GB of RAM does go a very long way, which is true. Extra 8GB of RAM is not going to make your Mac Mini suitable for an insane editor. "Resell value " only mean something when someone need the budget and can actually sell what they are selling.

I’d say don’t buy a mac mini at all, the things a giant waste of money. That thing costs more than my pc yet my pc can destroy the M2 ultra, and I don’t have to get a new computer to upgrade… anything that costs more than a $1000 from apple is a waste of money, they don’t build their computers like they used to

I bought the base model M2 mini and it’s great. Everyone is saying to upgrade it, but if you’re just doing everyday thing with it it’s fine. And if it sucks in 2-3 years just get the newest entry level mac. Price is right where you can just keep upgrading every few years instead of dumping a ton of money now and having something obsolete in a few years. You only need to upgrade if you’re doing crazy amounts of video or photo editing or massive high speed transfers. For the normal person, the base model is fine.

This is all relative as you could say this for any Mac configuration. But in my experience the best strategy is get a Mac that meets your needs today and will still be competitively powerful in 5-8 years so you get maximum value out of your purchase. You’ll save way more money long term this way as these Mac updates and apps are getting way more power hungry every year. I’m still using my 2015 5K iMac and 2017 MacBook Pro which I maxed out to the highest configuration and they still outperform these base M1/M2/M3 Macs not only in the Core i7 processing power but they have 4GB discrete GPUs which Mac Silicon doesn’t have. Plus they’re both running MacOS Sonoma using OCLP and the iMac has the best 5K display that Apple sells and you can install a custom chip into it to use it as a standalone monitor. Now I’ll get the Mac Studio once it gets the M3 chip and continue using my iMac 5K display with it. So I’ve gotten 8 years out of my purchase and I’m also saving a fortune not having to buy a new monitor.

Atleast they should provide and m.2 slot for storage upgrade. They are charging $250 from 256gb to 512gb upgrade and it's not even fast, I can get 1tb gen4 SSD for $85 that is 4x faster.

Once the developers of Asahi Linux get it fully compatible with these m2 Mac minis I’m definitely buying one

Great tips I’m on an old iMac 2012 on catalina. Planning to get a new one soon. Waiting to see what comes out in May & June. Was looking at iMac M3 with 24 GB memory 1 TB storage or Mac Studio M2 Max w/ 32 GB memory 1TB storage (hear new one is coming) with Studio Display. Now wondering if the mini is a better option.

You can but you have to do a weird workaround. Bc for sidecar, the ipad is treated as a 2nd display. Which means you need a first display before connecting to the ipad. Some people do this, then make a keyboard shortcut that automatically sets up sidecar for the 2nd time.

@@yephindiangamersm if you are referring to blender for 3d software probably not. I would suggest going with 16gb of ram even with this it will still struggle depending how much resolution and effects you are trying to create. Just take my opinion a grain of salt.

For 3D I’ll suggest getting the M2 Mac Mini pro, slightly more cores and the base model has 16gb of ram

I have m1 mini, and its so slow when making music...try to record your screen when in session and its impossible.. forget about streaming...I bought it cause of missleading videos like this one.

You can use any keyboard but only 2 USB ports are in back so you may have to use a doggle for added ports.

It only supports 2 external displays but if u get a display link adapter (which in a way is an external graphics card) u can have more.

@@Chimpify Displaylink will cause copyrighted videos to be blocked from playback on ANY display hooked up to your computer. Like you are prevented from even streaming videos from Apple Music.

I’m getting one $599, I can’t say no.

These days one can find windows pc box much smaller than Mac mini and cheaper in price as well, and with more connectivity and memory or disk space!. But of course you don't have the big apple logo on it 😅.

@@LORDdikaa I mostly do video editing with FCPX on it. I seldom use it for photo editing. I used to have an M1 macbook air and this is significantly faster than it in video editing thanks to it video encoders. I’m not sure about photo editing though….

@@hape3862 some company requirements especially with remote work can't work on a virtual machine especially when its using its own virtual machine and need to know your exact peripherals specs to work. parallels is for the casual user and if its not that important why use it in the first place? so if your Job requires you to work in windows for some of its security apps and allows Mac only if you can dual boot.. this is not the computer to buy.
