Hi, I'm not that educated on horses, but I was wondering if people are allowed to ride pregnant mares? I have always thought that it would hurt the mare/foal in some way.

I had the okay from the vet, they said it's actually better to keep them in work and keep them fit for as long as possible. It would actually be worse for her to just suddenly stop all work. However, Carrie is now only being hacked out twice a week (no jumping or strenuous work) to keep her ticking over or until she says it's enough 😊 regarding the foal in early gestation, they are blissfully unaware, just floating around having a good ol' time lol. I'm probably planning to stop all riding in the new year as Carrie will be getting alot bigger 🙈 There are been cases where top showjumpers buy mares, compete them jumping 1m50 and the next morning they've found a foal in the stable! So all depends on the mare 😊
