Leif Garrett sings "Give in"

Музыка

Leif Garrett sings "Give in" in Chips episode "Rollerdisco". Leif Garrett performing as a Rockstar. Or maybe Leif Garrett performing as Leif Garrett?

This episode was rebroadcast on Tuesday May 12th, and Wednesday May 13th 2015 on MeTV. This episode also has Jim Brown, and Fred "The Hammer" Williamson in it. Also during this roller disco scene with Leif Garrett were an assortment of the days stars. Such as Dana Plato; Cindy Williams; Todd Bridges; Adam Rich, and others. Two very likable episodes!

Leif is always so cute in these old videos... I am sad I was born in 1979 and missed all of this fun! :) One thing that struck me when I was watching was that with him wearing the spandex like that and dancing (and in several other videos - not half bad on him either btw, if I do say so myself..lol)wouldn't it have been a total riot if he'd put out an exercise video back then? :) I could see the title: Get in Shape with Leif Garrett.. haha you know a million girls would have bought it... :)

Don't feel so bad. I was around back then for sure, and into that beat. But I am already in my fifties now. It is difficult music to perform...very difficult. It messes with your emotions. Although it isn't that loud its got a beat that is so strong that you might wonder if it might actually kill somebody. It is almost dangerous.

@melysaful I so agree with you, my friend! The true beauty of an individual can radiate only from the heart. Let's remember that the Little Prince (in the classic children's story) learned that "what is essential is invisible to the eyes." What is essential in Leif I can see with my heart. And my heart has judged it to be beautiful.

Normally it takes a few times for me to listen to a song before it grows on me but not this one, just heard it for the first time while watching a re run of the awesome classic CHiP's & hearing it just once was enough to have me hooked & coming to KZread to listen to it again. It's a great song from a great decade, might just be me but the 70's & 80's seemed to have something special that 'now' just doesn't unfortunately ☹️

Naturally, Lief was lip syncing while filming this scene. How do I know? I was in the sound booth, up and to his left. He asked me to play his record loud, so I did. After the first take, someone came up and relieved me for playing too loud. I worked at Flippers during the renovation and afterward when it opened as a rink. Any questions, just ask.

JimH I have this episode on DVD. i of course could tell he was lipsync ing but what I have always wanted to know is were all those celebs really in the audience watching him or was he just performing on stage in front of just cameras and the audience was filmed at a different time.

I should've said that the technology didn't exist for him to sing directly into the scene... my bad. I wasn't meaning to imply anything negative. The answer to your question is both. He was filmed and all watched, then the scene that is simultaneous with his singing was shot afterwords. His singing was done in 2 takes, I suppose my running the music too loud may have caused him to have to do it again... don't know for sure. The big party where they are introducing the variety of celeb's was shot in the evening during business hours and the rink was open to the paying public, while Lief's scene was shot at mid morning. During the party I worked at the skate rental. I don't think the party was advertised to the public tho, I think the celeb's were invited. Don't know who if any were paid other than those with regard to Chips. Leif wasn't at the party as far as I can remember. You'll notice the staging with their instruments is missing during the party tho the island was pretty much always there. Which really wasn't an island, just a bunch of framing that was carpeted. People skated in and around the island and they could also sit in the middle of the rink. Some more FYI... The floor was particle board w/a blue urethane coating, very uneven and pitiful. They didn't want to spend the money for a good floor. The bowling alley flooring was used to make the booths, tables and doors for the guest areas. I was a laborer during the renovation and when the rink floor was down Flipper and Denny Cordell seen that I could skate and kept me on running the skate rental & sales. I eventually got fired by Stan who was the overall manager, a power thing for him. Don't remember much why but he wanted me to do something and I said, "No." He replied something like, "You don't want to get into a power struggle with me." He then went to the owners, got the ok and came back and fired me. I was accused of stealing 10K worth of skates and that wasn't true. Tho I did take about 6 sets of Lebeda wheels as I was a speed skater. There were after hour parties their almost every night. Flipper got his name from his weird club foot, he was handicapped in some way and his english friends nicknamed him flipper for the way his foot moved when he walked. Rumor had it, Flipper's claim to fame was the he ran a pirate radio station off the coast of England. Denny Cordell was CEO of shelter or A&M records... I forget. The 3rd partner, don't remember his name, tho he was an attorney for the Beatles, note, they were all english. I met a few stars there, Kristy McNichole blew me off in a bad way. It took everything I had just to approach her... oh well. Leif was probably 16 or 17 at the time and actually was a really nice guy, to me anyway. Eric Estrada, didn't think anyone was watching and I seen him jerk some kid by the arm, reprimanding or something, don't know. As I was up in the sound booth watching when no one else but him and the kid were around. Probably more than you wanted to know, I just happened across the video as there aren't many out there that showed the inside of Flippers. The only roller rink in the US with a liquor bar. Actually, if I'm remembering right, Flippers was mostly membership, not sure about that either.

JimH .. I just thought it was cool how they got all those celebrities in one building like that for a TV show at one time. A lot of stars there for that era. The late 70s into the entire decade of the 80s seemed to be one of the best times to be alive..in terms of music, tv shows and overall mood of the country. Thanks for the info.
