I’ve never used a Leica but I love the simplicity. It offers the opportunity to test a photographers skills and creativity. Sometimes I feel like we have become too technologically dependent. Thanks for the reminder.

As a Leica M and Q owner, the Q is the best camera that Leica makes, at a better price point compared to buying a 28mm and a full-frame Leica body separately.

Excellent review of a sublime camera! I’m mostly a Leica M user, but over the years I’ve used the X, occasional D-Lux and over the past two years the Q, which is now my “everyday camera”!

Regarding the menu, the Q has a firmware upgrade that adds a Favorites section as the primary menu. They must keep sending that particular camera out for demos without updating it when it comes back.

I have this camera for over a month. Love it. User friendly. Quiet and great photos. Honestly hard to beat. I have all of Sony full frame cameras but I use my Leica the most

Someone abused the crap out of that Q! After using the M with some amazing lenses, I got the Q and did not look back - yet :) Fantastic Camera with Amazing image quality!

I love my Leica X typ 113, and it produces really decent images. I would have loved a Leica Q, or an M but the cost made my eyes water, and my wallet spontaneously combusted. I now own the X and the Nikon Df, which I feel is the best alternative to either the M or the Q.

I own the Q. The camera itself is a work of art. If you don't plan on buying one, don't put it in your hands.

I still have a Leica M6. I love it. I probably would enjoy using a simple fun camera to shoot without the technical stuff.

Don't buy the Leica Q if you just want one camera. It's so good, you will want more. After the Q, you get a M Digital and why not Analog. Then, you get some lenses, and it will never end. My life savings are gone, since I bought the Leica Q...

@@LaurentBourrelly I'm afraid I did - and via eBay no less - did a lot of research and found a peach of a deal - nervous to buy via this route for such cost but I think it was a bargain imho. Just do it - its inevitable - don't fight it - the sooner you do it the more time you will have with it !!

8:08 to 8:20 crazy cool. Recovering that much detail is unreal. But she did it. Camera is impressive.

You should have got one with the up-to-date firmware as this has a 'fav'' section.

Thanks for the review Leigh. Do you think it’s still worth getting the Q (I’d love to get the Q2 but it’s outside my budget at present)? And possibly unfair question but is the Fuji X100V now a better option than the Q? (I recognise there are differences in sensor size etc)

@@LeighAndRaymond This presents the price-quality problem with the Q. I personally prefer a Fuji X body with a sharp prime, because the Fuji provides a similar "in the moment" experience at a friendlier price point. And the Q needs a refresh/update. Will you buy a Q?

Yes, you had the older Q. The newest kid on the block is the Q-P. One place where the Q or Q-P excels is in urban street photography/photojournalism. I agree that the Q's are great for situations where you preset the camera and concentrate on the subject. You link people to Amazon, but if you purchase from a Leica store you get great personalized service. Amazon is so very impersonal. There's no difference in price.

As someone who is partially sighted this sounds like a great camera for me, just a pity about the price. Wonder if Leica need any partially sighted testers to hve it long term?

Leica have a long life community, they don't need commercial , KZreadrs or reviewers to sell their cameras.

So it’s a given compact camera and semi wide angle lens. Frankly I would want a 85 for portraits and all the compacts distorts people

I do use for work cameras with lots of dials and complication, but use the Leica Q for scouting, and often times, the images taken with the Q go into the final selection of a Project. I agree that it is unobtrusive, but the quality and the sophistication are there. So, is it a camera to enjoy yourself? Definitely, but you can get a lot of it, and definitely it does not fall behind at all vs. other full frames. The lens is superb, and the dynamic range is also excellent. Sorry to disagree, it's much more than it seems. And, btw, as somebody mentioned, the camera does have a quick menu with favorites.

Is the Q2 has GPS?

I just bought one used and it feels like it may slip out of my hands even with average hands. People with bigger hands should definitely add a grip and maybe thumbs up too. More reasons for GAS my friends! Mine has a favorites menu though, so yours is perhaps ol firmware.

Grip should be mandatory. Very slippy without it and insecure battery cover and not nice for portrait mode without it!

So, is it a better camera for being in te moment than the Fuji X100F?

is the latest firmware ok? no bug? read in forum someone got problem after upgrade to latest firmware, stuck only f2.8 cannot go to f1.7

I didn't have the latest firmware so I can't say for sure but it sounds like maybe that person had the camera in macro mode. It won't go wider than f/2.8 if you have the lens shifted over to Macro, even if the aperture ring is set at f/1.7.

Leica makes beautiful *compact* camera cases for the X1, X2, D-Lux, C-Lux, and other Panasonic-made Leicas (the X1 and X2 were made by Leica). Look up the 19554 case for the D-Lux7 camera - it fits the camera perfectly with no room to spare, fully enclosed and protecting the lens, and it looks elegant - not like the old-fashioned camera cases. The point of this is that Leica is making a $5k *compact* camera with the Q2, and then denying that it's a compact camera by not providing a compact case - only providing ugly photographer cases that are used for system cameras. If Leica were to get their heads out of the sand on this Q2, it would be to provide the elegant carry case type that is available for all of their other compact non-system cameras. The point of that is to keep people focused on what the Q2 really is, and make it fun to carry most places without a camera bag or a half-cover that doesn't protect the lens. I've been using these cases for 15 years, and they make a night-and-day difference in the pleasure of owning a compact Leica camera.

There were photos from a few areas but the first ones from sunrise were at one of the viewpoints between the Village and Hermit's Rest. I can't remember exactly which one though!

mirrorless full frame and compact camera. But some your image not reflect high quality color or sharp from camera + lens

Surprised that Leica would have sent you a camera that is so beaten up and without the latest firmware. Doesn't sound like them at all
