lego ww1 The Battle of the Somme
Фильм және анимация
For the 100th year anniversary of WWI, I give you The Battle of the Somme!
Please remember to rate, comment, and subscribe!
The Battle of the Somme, also known as the Somme Offensive, was a battle fought during the First World War fought by the armies of the British and French empires against the German Empire. Because of poor planning and ineffective artillery strikes, The Battle of the Somme resulted in 1,000,000 casualties on both sides, making it one of humanities bloodiest battles.
This film is dedicated to all of the young men, whatever their nationality, who died in the First World War.
See if you can find the Lightsaber ;)

This is one of the greatest films I've ever seen. I tried doing a WW1 Brickfilm but it didn't work out. I decided to make a ww2 one. This makes me want to try again. I especially loved the contribution to those who lost there lives at the end.
Another milestone! 2 million views on this video and 9000 overall subscribers! Thanks so much everyone! Sit tight I'm working on a new animation, should be out sometime early summer.

Who'd ever believe lego figures could make you feel horrified? Well done. WWI was truly horrible and brutal. Actually it's pretty awesome. Something as innocent as Legos combined with something as bloody as the Battle of the Somme. Oh, and you surely know the battle ended with a British victory, but needless to say that came at a high price.

This is a really good Lego animation. With a little practice, almost anyone can make these little plastic guys look like they can really move, but you've stepped up at included all of the little stuff that really makes this a great story. Details like splashing water in that first shot, and dirt falling down on the soldiers' heads after an artillery explosion, and the guys hanging on to their helmets when the explosions occur. Really good stuff. Keep it up.

This is absolutely brilliant! Only today I was trying to show my sons the statue of a Private from my home town who won the VC at Mont St. Quentin in 1918. I was wondering how to get them to take much interest in history, and you have just handed me a most valuable tool in showing them history in a way that will grab their attention, and teach at the same time. Thank-you for your awesome work!

Great job! And as I commented on a similar video of the Gallipoli campaign, also very respectful - thanks. My Great Uncle was killed during the second Battle of Somme, at Pozieres. He suffered shrapnel wounds (mortar shell most likely), made it to the field hospital, but died shortly after. He at least has a known grave, my other Great Uncle lies in Flanders Field, somewhere. Again good job on this.

It's spelt military, and it's a commitment you can never go back on. You're not ready, your mentality shows. I come from long line of soldiers. It's only my purpose to Christ and country I join. It's what my fathers did for us. I have the fighting spirit and the mentality to survive and provide protection and duty to my country. United States Marine Corps. First to Fight

+Kyle “Elvenkin” Dayton It wasn't like WW2 where soldiers like the SS or the Einsatzgruppen were actually trained to be merciless and ruthless. WW2 tainted the impression of the german army but in WW1 they were pretty honourable in most cases and the majority of the things that could be considered atrocities were orders made by higher officers - who never actually had to carry out the orders themselves. A lot of germans who were just good people in an exceedingly bad situation died in WW1.
@legoanimation20
7 жыл бұрын
Thats the idea, I feel that too many films have portrayed the germans wrongly, not all of them, a lot of them did pretty atrocious things, but a good chunk of them were good people.
@GraemePryce1978
7 жыл бұрын
legoanimation20 Well, everybody loves a villain don't they? The Germans kind of brought it on themselves with their sinister insignias and uniforms and everything in WW2 and they did look pretty fearsome in WW1 by 1918 as well but they 95% of them were still just people following orders or people fearing for their own lives and those of their families too. I was watching a few of your videos the other day. They are great fun. Top marks. lol

This does a good job on showing how bad the death was on both sides of the war.
Why do you always portray one side as the good guys? You guys did this for many battles. Think of the German's struggle and what they were fighting for? Makes these kids think there is only one good guy to everything. In fact, there are no such thing as good guys.
@legoanimation20
7 жыл бұрын
I tried to show that neither side were the bad guys in this video, as shown by the German gunner almost refusing to keep mowing down the British soldiers. Each soldier had their duties (whether they were ethical or not). I am sorry I was not explicit enough to show that in this film.

legoanimation20 Thats true, and its a good point, but honestly you probably would have been fine just focusing on the first day of the battle, and you could have just showed a massacre, because thats basically the main lesson of that battle. Thanks for replying though!

Awesome work man! This is great!
Once again, a Battle of the Somme with no Frenchman in sight. Given that they made up almost 45% of the allied force in the Somme and performed way better than the poorly and hastily trained British Tommies, this is kinda insulting, though not surprising. Similarly, the main fault of the Somme wasn't poor planning and inneffective artillery, but an overall lack of experience on the British side. While the Germans, French and Russians had been fighting for more than two years already, the British forces, be it the soldiers or the officers, had no idea about what was going to happen. A gigantic offensive such as this one was possibly the worst trial by fire one could imagine. The Somme is, in a way, similar to the august-september 14 battles fought by the Germans and French. Neither army was trained for modern warfare. That being said, my respect for all the men, no matter their nationalities, who fought in the Somme, Verdun, Tanneberg, and all the bloody battlefields of this terrible, sickening war.
