It's kind of crazy how like 80% of the surface pieces on the new bomber didn't exist when the last one was released
While I'm not a fan of the new smaller style of Tie, I do appreciate that it allows us to get the bomber and potentially other larger ties at a more reasonable price. Crossed fingers that they'll remake the Tie Defender one day

If I remember correctly we'll get a Tie Interceptor this year as well. So maybe, just maybe, Lego is jumping on the Tie Train. We can only hope. The old Ties looked good but compared to the newer versions, they just fail to fit in. A new Style Defender would be awesome but i'd prefer the Advanced to be first tbh.

This model is not undersized at all, actually! The TIE Bomber has always been a fairly small-ish ship compared to the standard TIE's height, and far as scaling with minifigures goes, this one is pretty spot-on, much like the 2002 one. I'd recommend checking out BrickSet's Star Wars scale guide to have a more accurate notion of what sets are undersized and oversized, some of them are actually pretty surprising and unexpected.

I love the smaller ships, lego takes up space FAST

Aren't the small ones closer to minifig scale though?
I’m hoping for a full suite of tie vehicles in this scale, they’d all be relatively affordable compared to the older sized tie fighters and would make for a great display
I'm a weirdo and absolutely love the TIE Bomber, so this set's pretty nice. $60 is a bit steep, but it's still acceptable. Though the bomb bay could be improved considerably, if I had one I'd look into modifying that somewhat...

Hello fellow Tie Bomber Fan. I have to say despite it's pricetag it's rather fair for what you get. Sure the Tie itself is Not that big but the build itself and the quantity of pieces are worth it. I got it for 54€ which is a good deal. But yeah, i recommend waiting for a pricedrop If you're unsure yet. Also, improving the bomb drop wouldn't be difficult because the build has a 2x2 empty space behind it. So there's space for improving it. I myself have no idea how to modify it best tho.

Agree, it's a nice model but it doesn't seem great value for $65. I'll get it for sure since it's an OT ship, but I'll wait for a sale.

I love the bomber too! This sits next to my og bomber set
I think they could have replaced one of the figures with a KX-series droid. That way the set could have also related to the bombing of Mandalore shown in the Book of Boba Fett and would have offered a highly desirable figure we haven't had enough of (+ we recently saw some of these droids in Andor, so they would still be relevant)

I would have 😍 ked that. I say they should have dropped the Darth Vader for that droid.

YOU DARE TURN AGAINST LORD GONK????
As a lifelong Lego Imperial die-hard, these new downscaled TIE fighters are a dream. They actually feel minifig scale; I liked the Solo TIE Fighter, but it was so huge it felt ridiculous. These actually feel to scale with the minifigs. Also, I'm loving Lego's recent focus on smaller, very durable sets. I've got this one, the regular TIE fighter, and Obi-Wan's Jedi starfighter recently, and what really strikes me with these new sets as opposed to older ones is that they're designed from the ground up to be suuuuper tough with nothing loose or prone to falling off. Nothing whobbles, nothing snaps off, it's all super robust and swishable. I am all for it.
I've always been strangely fixated on tie bombers so I'm so glad they've finally made another one! such a nice little compact set
Crazy to not have a "bomb drop" like the old model considering the (I assume) massive empty space behind the pilot, possibly instead of the small cart build. The bigger screen looks so much better on the old model, I do love being able to see a pilot. Overall the set is still pretty good. 3 minfigs is odd considering you only have a pilot and small cart driver as roles. Droids are always a welcome addition.

the bombs drop from the other pod, not the one where the pilot sits
The tie bomber in my opinion looks very cool. It's been a long time since we got a tie bomber and this one looks cool
Jang is one of the best Lego reviewers, just puttin' that out there. Not a massive Star Wars fan, but Jang makes it entertaining nevertheless. I bought the 8-stud yellow Lego camper van which Jang reviewed, and converted it to a 6-stud VW classic.
This is a great remake. When they release the tie striker hope it will be in the same size range
I've been waiting 12 years for this set to be made, since I became interested in LEGO and STAR WARS a couple years after the 2003 model was retired. Even though I don't like the down-scaled sets, this one has good proportions and looks good from every angle. It doesn't look like it's a downscaled version of a better set with the single goal of being cheaper. I'm happy with the model and it definitely was worth the wait!
The 2003 Tie Bomber set was a set I loved as a kid. I'm really surprised how good the cockpit is of this new set, when I saw the pictures I was immediately nervous and skeptical, but the smoothness of the cockpit really makes up for any lacking.
So good to see you back reviewing on KZread, Jang! I wish we could convey how valued you are on this platform.
I love the inclusion of the light cargo speeder thing. Similar thing came with the last Slave I, too, but I think this one's more relevant in this set's context. Combat vehicles like fighters, bombers, tanks, etc. are cool and all, and I do love them (both in Star Wars & real life), but they won't be able to do their job as well or at all without the support & logistics stuff like munition loaders or cargo trucks (/speeders). As simple as it may be, this little build really boosts the believability of the whole thing & expands imagination for me. It (+ the rebel personnel carrier from the Yavin IV set) even inspired me to create my own little Imperial utility speeder (haha), and it's given a little extra life to my lego empire. Kudos to the team for deciding to go with this thing (perhaps with left-over parts budget).
I have such a deep love for the black and blue TIEs I grew up with, but no question the new ones look waaay more sleek and accurate.
I think the part that hangs down is the bomb port and the targeting sensor, while the concussion missiles come out of the front from the left side pod…thanks again Jang for another great review.
Personally this TIE Bomber is not particularly attractive especially in terms of the value, given its size relative to the TIE Fighter in particular. The figures are pretty nice especially when we are getting Rae Sloane for the first time. Would probably consider picking this up at a decent discount.

I expect the next standard Tie we get will probably have this new cockpit design, which will make the standard Tie look like a smaller scale, and mesh with this better

Gonk Droid!
Dude..I totally enjoyed watching this video...YOUR VOICE IS BOB ROSS ALMOST...😊
The targeting pod is also where the bombs drop. It does both as one tube is a sensor while the other is the bomb chute for Proton bombs/torpedos.
love you jang! great review as always
I think the reason why the old bomber looks bigger at first glance is that the vertical section of the side panels is two studs taller, and the canted sections are a stud shorter each. It's very subtle, as it forces the corners out a little.
I'm not really a fan of the Bombing mechanism in this set either. I do wonder if the original method would be superior: I remember loving that version as a kid, it looked great and was easy to use. Plus, modern rubber bands are so durable. While I was writing this comment, you brought out the original, and I'm really glad to see the comparison. It makes a real difference. It also made me realize my childhood tie bomber is missing the sensor at the bottom!
The new Tie Bomber looks really good! I really love it, just like I loved the smaller Tie Fighter
I like the look of it but wish it was a bit larger and could see the pilot inside through the window. It's nice to get another Imperial officer too. Nice review Jang
I usually don't really go for Star Wars, but the TIE bomber is one of my favorite SW craft next to the Y-Wing. I actually own the 2003 version, which of course looks terrible to modern eyes. I was quite pleased when they finally released this new version - I ordered it yesterday and recieved it this evening! Can't wait to build it.
I didn't mind the price too much considering how much I've wanted a remake of this ship, but I kinda wish it came with an additional minifig. I certainly wouldn't want the ship itself to be any bigger. I like that other commenter's idea of a KX droid (I remember fan boxart a couple years ago which included one) or even an astromech. Ground crew or another hangar-related figure would have been cool as well. Gonk droids are nice but they're just a handful of very common pieces. In general it's exactly what I expected and that's fine. I wanted a TIE bomber and that's what I got lol
Always loved the tie bomber. Thanks for the review Jang!
Andor has revitalized my love for Empire ships, stoked to pick this up. Excellent review!!
Thanks Jang for another great video. 😁
Now they need to make the standard and interceptor with this level of quality. They’ve been cranking out TIE fighters so much the past decade, but this is the first one that is finally excellent.
I don't think they could have done much better at this scale without getting to the $100+ price range, which... most people would have hated. Also, gonk is love, gonk is life.
A review so nice, I'll watch it twice
I’m looking forward to the TIE Interceptor. I still remember when I bought the original one back then for $20.00. Ohh the nostalgia.
your review just made lego some money. ordered it, will be delivered tomorrow. I`m gonna have me some fun
I got the original 20 years ago. I'm actually quite happy to get the new one. Especially with a gonk Droid.
I didn't even know about the tie bomber, but I needed a bomber to fill out the moc I thought up and it looks good
Have to get this set, tried to buy the 2003 bomber off ebay so many times I got out bid around $150, so this is a steal.
i have a collection of the old blue/black tie variants from 20 years ago. This looks like a good update, hoping we get the other variants to match.
What a great model. Its nice to have Rae Sloane made into a figure. Kind of a random figure selection if you ask me but its whatever. Too bad they couldn't have a see through windshield. But still a nice set and I can't wait to buy a few of these whenever they drop down a bit in price.
i wonder what exactly inspires the lego star wars designers to include various named characters for no reason in more and more new variants while there are plenty of massable roles that we generally don't see. imagine if we got an imperial trooper instead that calls in the tie bomber for a sortie, that would be pretty cool
Nice - a Gonk droid set - and it comes with a TIE bomber as a side build :) BTW - i like that they included Darth Vader in the set - now i just need to rebuild the bomber into Vader's TIE Advanced from the original movie trench run - anybody out there who has a set of MOC instructions, or is it too early?.
So glad JANG is able to do a comparison with the original. The two sets look very similar
I’ll say it again: definitely gonna get this when I get my next paycheck, cuz I think it looks great!
so happy about this remake lol, cos I missed the first one, was too young!
Not familiar with Star Wars enough to recognise this vehicle or appreciate how accurate it may be, but as a Lego model only, I think this looks pretty cool!
Today i got my own...i like it so so so much...its an awesome model...and my favourite..."Gonk!"...i like it! A must buy!
That the tie bomber comes with a Gonk Droid makes this an instantly worthy Lego set.

it's building is so random, there's not even a special print for its console/face. So, not a gonk at all.
I like that... it does indeed "fire down" instead of "drop" bombs
I've been interested in expanding my imperial fleet and this will do nicely. Its much more of a model than a playset. *Gonk*
I love this Bomber, it looks incredible!
I am going to mod this into the Tie boardingcraft
Your comments at the end really brought comfort to my decision to not get the bomber. Aside from that, I fully agree 100% with your review on the bomber. Good set. Weird that Vader is here. Love the Gonk
On the one side, I'd have preferred it to be in the 50€/$ gap, minus the side build and including just the pilot (ala new X-wing and Tie fighter). On the other one, this Vader is a compelling point for me: probably the best likeness to date of Sebastian Shaw in ROTJ. I sense the collectibility will be strong in this one...
Can't wait to get one... now I need a new B-wing!!
How does the size of this compare to the tie advanced in that a-wing vs tie advanced set? Looks pretty similar.
I’m just hoping that we get a TIE Interceptor next.
I bought this for Sloane, I've been needing her to mark my flagship in Star Wars Armada
I was expecting something more in the "oversized" category like the recent N1 but it's actually reasonably sized, in line with the $40 TIE which is perfect for me. The bomber looks great, just wish they kept the frame structure build for the wings like the recent TIEs for consistency sake. The little bomb cart is nice, would have been better is there was a mechanics or a trooper to actually use it instead of an officer or Vader, that would make more sense.
"This set has no stickers" Automatic 10/10
This looks like something my cousin might like (he loves star wars and Legos just like me)
Tie bomber is probably my favorite ship in star wars (tied with U wing and Arc-170) and alot of it is because of Squadrons and battlefront, and just how weird and cool they look. i love this set, i think everything was done well (except the bombing sequence is a little eh)
My primary concern is lack of transparent cocpit; if the modern ones are too large, would the smaller piece from 2012's TIE work?
Thanks for a balanced video!
I've been wanting a TIE Bomber for 20 years, so I'm pretty happy. Now I just need them to release a new TIE Interceptor. Then an new version of 10131.
A little bit of me died inside when you said it's been 20 years because I have that one D:
i really like that modded version of the old tie bomber
Everything about your reviews are perfect. Your voice is perfect I won’t watch any other Lego Star Wars reviews. Love from the U.K. 🇬🇧
Love the retrowave shirt!
GONK in the name of love!
I just picked this set up for $50 in a local store. I also got the new Ahsoka shuttle for $60.
Got this one for some reason with a 10 euro discount at Intertoys, and for the 55 euros it was an excellent, excellent buy and build.
This review makes me want this set so bad after every time I watch it 😂 it's just such a good lego set
Bomb drop mechanism could be dropped down a stud for a brick to be pushed down for a synchronized drop. HAIL GONK.
Now we need tie interceptor and tie defender and my display will be complete!
While I didn’t need this but it is nice for my tie squadron but I’ll admit I got it for arm printed Vader
Would have been cool if they could have incorporated the resistance bomber feature with a smaller type of ammo.
I think that Vadar should be replaced with an Imperial technician & they definitely should have put Sloan in her white uniform. Great set though, I will be picking one up when I see it on discount.
I can't wait for a tie interceptor now
Never bought a Star Wars set ever, saw darth vader, and they sold me, the bomber tho was a fun rather simple build, definitely worth it to me
Tie bombers in the mandalorian flashback!! Even the new generation is experiencing the OG trilogy ships! I bet it is going to sell well for lego.
I need a TIE Bomber in my life!
The arms of Vader looks cool that’s a new thing
Great video. I was wondering if it is minifigure scale?
"Gonk is good gonk is great we love gonk" had me fall out of bed laughing
I really like the scale of these, I’ll wait until it’s on sale, it’s £60 in the UK.
Got mine on Rollback for $51! Very happy!
I wish it came with a pink cone.
Now we just need a Tie Interceptor
JANG wearing a hoodie with himself on it 😂🐐
The tie bomber is my favorite Lego Star Wars set
Thank you for comparing the two side by side! It was honestly a good wake up call for me to see how janky the original was in comparison to this newer, more sturdy build. I really like the design of this new model. With that being said though, that pop of colour on the old one really highlights how drab modern Star Wars has gotten. I know the era of blue TIE Fighters is scoffed at these days, but they’ve just gotta find a way to get blue back on these models again! Maybe Sand Blue would work better? 🤔
@HGHsChannel
Жыл бұрын
Hi Slugger ! Sand Blue TIEs would be awesome. The 2016 TIE striker has little sand blue details and it's one of my favourites. The old Blue TIEs might look a bit ridiculous, but I love 'em; they were the only ones I had for a long time and they're still sitting on my shelves!
The reason it looks smaller is the windshield for the cockpit.
Unfortunately, I do need that TIE Bomber to compete my collection. I've got a TIE Fighter, Vader's TIE Advance, and an Imperial V-Wing. The TIE Bomber is the very last thing I need to complete the TIE fleet.
"yeah, more gonk please. yes" the one line that all star wars fans can agree on
Nice Gonk variant! Isn't the tortured one? So it should be placed up-side-down on the box!
Anyone think that they should have made the black of the side panels go up one stud higher?
I hope next Tie fihghter will have same size!
I greatly appreciate the smooth, sleek exterior of the new one, and the accurate TIE engines on the back of each pod are a fantastic (and needed) improvement over the 2003 version. However, it does not have the ability to fire missiles from the ordnance pod. The best part of the 2003 bomber is the huge missile launcher (or launchers, in my case after I modified it to hold two of the older, large missile launchers), and the new one's dual stud shooters, while a welcome addition, are not a missile launcher. That said, I've seen several conversions online for replacing the front plate of the ordnance pod with one of the new spring-loaded missile launchers, as well as rotary bomb magazines like the Y-wings have instead of the down-facing flick-fire missiles, so I will appreciate what we get from this set, wait for it to go on sale, and modify it to my specs. Which is, honestly, the best part of LEGO. Some of my favorite sets are the 2006 A-wing and B-wing, because I have spent so much time incorporating the new spring-loaded shooters into their hulls without (significantly) changing any external features.
