I worked at the LEGO store for a little while; and I can tell you that when the display sets are at the end of their life cycle, they are given to the employees, just like Ryan said! However, the way they do it is pretty interesting! The way my LEGO store gave away the display sets was by giving it to the employee who had the most sales of a particular set, usually a set that was harder to sell… It’s pretty interesting, and not something you’d really know unless you’ve worked at a LEGO store yourself!

I didn't realise employees sold stuff at Lego stores like a show room. I thought people just went in and bought the stuff they wanted off the shelf. I suppose parents that want to surprise their kids might ask you for advice on what set they should get. Are there any other type of people that you sell sets to?

Updated sabers and blasters make sense, as does more printing. But as for minifigures, theres not much you can do to improve them, they will always be that size, shape and style. Unlike action figures which have new sculpts, different textures and heights, muscles definition etc. I would like to see more molded head pieces like the rodian or kit fisto heads, but i think human characters have peaked

The printed kama would need to cover the whole leg, not just the front.

Linking back to the idea of suing LEGO… what about their recent advent for the UCS Razor Crest which clearly displayed the Boba Fett armour in the (correct) darker green colour? I don’t see how a court would rule that it wasn’t false advertising…

Problem is you would be pretty unable to prove damages to anyone. If anyone bought the item thinking it was a certain color, they could just return it for a refund. They haven’t been induced to purchase something and been damaged by it.

@@veryblocky How exactly? Civil lawsuits require either financial or physical damages to recover for. If Lego refused to refund people for buying a razor crest than there would be an argument. That isn’t the case though and fans being upset that something isn’t accurate to a certain picture etc does not constitute false advertising as there aren’t any actual damages.

@@David-ti7sx I’m not a lawyer, but claims of false advertising do exist and happen. It may be that it’s usually the regulating body that brings the action, rather than the consumers, but either way such suits do occur. And what I meant is that, surely if you could defend any false advertising claim with “well they can just return it so there is no tangible damage”, then no one would ever get done for that.

I am glad for LEGO investing/resellers. I have never bought retired sets.... Up until two weeks ago... I bought FOUR retired Ninjago sets and, after hunting for the best prices and getting my orders in.... You know what my feeling was? Relief. I did not think I would want these retired sets when they were on retail shelves, but stuff happens. Tastes change. I saw the supply of these retired sets getting scarce and I felt like I dodged a bullet by not missing out. Literally, my feeling was RELIEF once I got the orders in; not anger or resentment for people charging me above MSRP. I paid around a 40% markup. Not too bad. Seriously, thank goodness for these people that had it in them to buy and hold these sets for me (LOL). And by the way, LEGO resellers should charge above MSRP. These people bought the sets like 3-4 years ago, tied up their money in these sets while they sat in their garage taking up a bunch of space, just so they can sell them to me for a small profit. I'll take it dude. I got to do other things with my money 3-4 years ago and I certainly don't need unopened sets sitting in my home for a few years. And another thing... many resellers take pride in good box condition. These sets arrived PRISTINE, unlike how LEGO ships. Lastly, scalping is NOT investing. Investing means to buy and hold. Scalping is a different beast. Thank you LEGO investors.

The one interesting thing to me is that the Police Station modular had 0 stickers so it makes me wonder if for that line of sets they will not have stickers?

this is a follow up to the question about sueing lego (3:37). if your answer is we probably couldnt sue lego, then how is this any different than the UK sueing Sony's Playstation for overcharging consumers? these two seem basically like the same scenerio. This lawsuit if im correct has been going on for a while and is being taken very seriously

With regards to stickers on adult sets, I think that, apart from cost, it's also a question of 'optional'. Sometimes you don't want or need to have a sticker. I can't tell for all sets, but I sometimes leave them off or on a different place or angle. I'd guess that with the Star Wars sets they could easily do prints.

Do you ever go around looking at Garage Sales? I have heard about some crazy deals like a $50 UCS Death Star. How do you find where these sales are, and is it worth traveling around every garage sale for just one good deal?

Should I buy a second AAT or a second Armoured Marauder? I like the Marauder better probably but the value of the 332nd trooper is making me think. Im most likely going to buy the other one too but just a question because both are retiring so I might not find the other one.

What is the one special mini fig or set you have set to buy and are chomping at the bit to purchase

AskMandR: I agree that price per piece isn’t always a good indicator of value because of the varying sizes of pieces. Why don’t we use weight, as in price per Oz or Lb? I think this would make it a lot easier in comparing the value of sets.

I don’t think this way would be sufficient for seeing a value of a set. For one the minifigures don’t weigh a lot different, and like a 332 trooper is far more valuable than a battle droid yet the weigh pretty close. Plus stickers won’t weigh anything. The manuals weigh differently, aswell as the box. I do not think weigh is a good source. Price per piece is the beset yet it is horrible. I don’t think anyone should be valuing sets in this way, because all it comes down to is getting the sets you like. Using weigh isn’t a sustainable method for doing it since there are to many factors when it comes to weight rather than price per piece.

Hey Ryan I’ve got a couple original Lego Star Wars minifiures and I’m trying to decide if I should sell them or not so what would you suggest doing with them

AskMandR: What would you like to see as a every year thing for lego star wars? I would love to see a big vehicle with a special minifig every summer wave. So for example this year it would be the At-te with Commander Cody, next year a Muunilist 10 Gunship with Fordo ( very optimistic i know), in two years an At-ot with Bly, etc.

I think investing in Lego sets is probably a great way for adult collectors, like myself, to be able to get ahold of some older sets. Seeing as how some sets that I had as a kid that weren't that expensive are now worth $500-$700 now sealed, I think that if I buy some newer sets like the AT-TE that I could sell them for at least double what I paid later on in order to offset the costs for some older sets I might want.

@@doctorfeelgood2670 It's not really that hard to find the people to sell them to. I just sold one of my other Republic Gunships (7163) for $900 after listing it for sale the other day. There's still quite a bit of people who are buying sets that are well over $500.

Hey MandR, I know with the new 212th helmets, asking for replacements from customer services will only get you more of the same misprinted ones. Don’t you think everyone should be getting these replacements anyway as much as possible? If enough people request replacements like 5 times it will surely cost LEGO and they might put more effort in next time to avoid giving out replacements for free.

Ryan, since you mentioned the signatures on sets and you have signed some 501st Btl Packs for people. Have you eve thought about having a 501st Btl Pack signed by member of the 501st Legion? I personally did and brought one to a Galaxy Con and got it signed. They found it really cool and unique.

I am a LEGO store employee. So who gets to take the "LEGO Store displays home" are the ones who either get the most NPS score (these are the surveys you, the customer, fill out) or the top 10 NPS employees enter a raffle and one of the ten employees are randomly chosen to take home the model.

In my Lego Duplo Sets there were actually eyes as Stickers so that its possible to build animals. It was this kind of sticker wich is a little bit stickier, thicker and made out of a paperlike substance

I don't know if this is just on every clone trooper but, when I looked at mine with the fin (P2 501st clones) it was slightly misprinted but atleast it isn't noticable like with the 212th clones.

My local lego store said they raffle off the display sets between the employees when they take them down.

Ask MandR: Hey Man, I have an old Jango Fett from 2013 and it's my favorite version of the fig, but there are cracks in both of his arms. I'm scared to take them out because I don't want to break the torso, and I want to sell it eventually. What should I do? LOVING the vids btw

I own two 501 battle pack sets. 1 to build for my collection and 1 to keep sealed. Cause it’s an iconic legendary set.

ask mandr-I think i figured out why the helmet prints on the 212th troopers are shifted down. i was looking at the 501st trooper and the 212th trooper, and it looked like they just cut the print off on the bttom and recolored it. i was wondering if you thought i was right, btw love the vids, keep up the good work!!!!

Do you think LEGO will release a new play scale Imperial Star Destroyer anytime soon? I doubt it since the Light Cruiser is on shelves currently and is a similar vehicle but I would definitely love to see it happen. Star Destroyers are some of the most iconic Star Wars ships and it’s been 8 years i believe since the last one released (not including the first order Star destroyer because it’s a different design from different movies). I would love to see how much they could improve the design with modern pieces and techniques and I think it would be a great ship to have a newer model of.

Why are LEGO prints in instructions getting ugly? For example the 501st battle pack the printing is supposed to be blue but in some pages they are purple why is that?

In a weird sort of way I really like the sand blue shuttle, and the grey command shuttle

Hey Ryan I was just wondering if you have noticed any issues with any of your monochrome figures particularly the arms on the glow in the dark ones? I was recently cleaning my displayed minifigures and when I got to my glow in the dark Vader I noticed a spot on his forearm kind of between his elbow and his arm crease (or whatever it's called, elbow pit maybe). I thought it was dirt but when I put on a headlamp and checked closely it was a crack! After further inspection I found there was another crack on the bottom side of the forearm as well, and then I checked the other arm and it had the same two cracks. Is this something you've seen before with these monochromes or maybe just glow in the dark figures? Thanks for the content and for reading my "short" story, lol!
