Cedric was a way more interesting villain then Vladek to me. Vladek was just the guy that betrayed the king for no reason other then power with no other backstory. Cedric on the other hand was more than just a random outlaw that wanted Leo's throne. A Knights Kingdom story book and Creator Knights Kingdom's manual reveals he's actually a prince from a land far away from Leo's who's a little bit more then pissed off at the fact that his 12 other brothers(take that Prince Hans!)were given land and there was none left for him when their father died. So rather then trying to take one of his brother's land's by force. The guy becomes an outlaw and travels a far distance away from his home kingdom and decides to take the land of a king that has no relation to Cedric or his family's bloodline.

@@NickonPlanetRipple Another thing about Cedric that isn't well known is once again stated in Creator Knights Kingdom's manual, the character Weezil(guy at 1:03)was found abandoned in the forest and Cedric actually took him in and raised him as his own son. This clearly shows that Cedric isn't completely evil. He does have some good in him. Even more is that Cedric is officially sated to if he does win the war instead of being like Scar or Prince Hans by murdering Leo and his family he gives them a chance to live by simply banishing them. Once again showing that Cedric isn't a cold hearted killer. I think Cedric is just more bitter and angry about him wrongfully being left no land in his home kingdom. If Knights Kingdom 1 had lasted longer than it did maybe they would've given Cedric character development like some of the current days Lego villains have gone through(Ninjago anyone?) Though i'm not a fan of Cedric in Lego Island 2.....he just seemed like he was pure evil in that game. Though I feel that could've been a case of Silicon Dreams not doing any research on Knights Kingdom 1. Plus I also consider the portrayal of Knights Kingdom 1 in LI2 to be a completely different universe to the Knights Kingdom 1 portrayed in the sets and the Creator game.

What worries me more than Nexo Knights ending this year, is that I don't think we've heard anything about Lego's next Big Bang theme (a story theme like Chima and Ninjago) for 2019. Now granted, they could be saving that for either next Summer or 2020 to plan it through some more. But looking at how almost consistently Chima and Nexo Knights have performed, I'm becoming slightly scared that Lego may be more complacent on their licensed themes and only have Ninjago as their truly original property. But even then, they're going back to the first three years with their upcoming Legacy line. While that's cool for the newer fans and some of the sets look better than their originals, it kinda feels telling that maybe that theme might be running short of its imagination spark. I won't give up on the hope of Lego making another successful story theme, Castle or otherwise, as long as they still have designers who will still come up with great and imaginative designs. It just feels worrying to me that Lego may follow the way of other big conglomerates like Disney and just rely on branding to be the path of viable business in the future. I don't think I will get over the day when they give up on original themes to get there. Sorry what I just wrote might be a bit of a downer. But I guess it helps to get stuff like this out and hopefully will spark some thoughtful discussions. I did enjoy reminiscing on both Knights Kingdom themes though. They were both released at the best times for me as a Lego fan. The original was released just a year after I got into Lego and the second theme helped catered to me when I was still on my Bionicle high days. I didn't get into Nexo Knights sadly, but I appreciated what the designers did for the theme. The only proper set I got was the Black Knight mech, and it is beautiful! Though Clay's newer anime looking mech also looks awesome! I hope we can get a proper mech based theme with designs like these from Lego someday (Exo Force successor, maybe?). *whew* That turned out longer than I thought. Great video, Nick! Keep doing what you do best at your own pace!

I really hope for some sort of Space theme. All the factions throughout the 90’s, surely at least one, maybe two could be worthy of a revival. Just make a story with 2 good and bad factions, but have them both human, and SEPARATE. Not a big bad guy ship with a couple good guys or vice versa. Perhaps add a third line of neutrals to put between. The LEGO Movie 2 Benny Battle Pack and the Benny Juniors Repair Shop proves that LEGO still has the parts and ideas to make new versions of old things.

@@t65bx25 I love the idea of neutral forces in war stories, but I think it would be cooler if it wasn't just humans vs humans, why not get some robots and aliens in there? Like star wars or Star trek? Honestly though, I think Lego needs to steer clear from the whole "team" faction for once. One thing I don't like with nexo knights is each character has a designated weapon, color, and vehicle design. What I mean is it always seems it's just a guy driving around in a sword shaped car with his sword, But then over head his friend flies over head in a crossbow shaped jet with his crossbow. Ninjago did a bit better with the red ninja, blue ninja, green ninja thing. But then with already had Galaxy squad that had red team, blue team, green team, and then knights kingdom before that!

Which sucks since everyone forgets Knights Kingdom 1 was actually the first castle theme to have an actual full complete royal family. King Leo, Queen Leonora and Princess Storm. Storm actually being the first castle princess minifig wanting to be a knight, not Princess Macy from Nexo Knights. Also Cedric was a way more interesting villain then Vladek to me. Vladek was just the guy that betrayed the king for no reason other then power with no other backstory. Cedric on the other hand was more than just a random outlaw that wanted Leo's throne. My dad used to go on business trips when I was younger and he would always bring a set of this home after he came back. I felt such a strong connection to Jayko, or the arrogant knight with great potential, who let his ego get ahead of him (causing Santos to get triggered by him in one of the online comics), but he eventually did right. My brother and I got the first castle for Christmas and it was the coolest and biggest set in our Lego collection. We also had 2 of the figs (our favorites), the bridge crossing, and the citadel (next Christmas). So many great play features (traps, action features, hidden secrets), new pieces, the online comics and flash games to add to the lore, the playing cards hinting at a bigger world, the story and characters (having them all included in the castle was awesome!). Never got any sets after the first year, I didn't feel like starting over with the updated minifigs. Thanks man, great video!

One thing that always stuck out to me was the old blue hue, I really liked the cobalt/ultramarine color, which I've never seen again in any other themes. The armor, swords, and shields were also really unique, never saw anything like that. I still remember finding one in a toy store in Europe many years after the theme was cancelled, I was so excited to get it. Of course the newer medieval themes were also really awesome, especially when the introduced the chrome-plated swords. In general I loved those themes.

Well, The Lion Temple set from the LEGO Legends of CHIMA theme *_is_* a lion-themed castle as it is (sort of) shaped like a lion in some parts of it; the Eagle Castle set (also from the LEGO Legends of CHIMA theme) is (sort of) shaped like an Eagle; and the Croc Swamp Hideout set from the same LEGO theme as the previous 2 LEGO sets *_is_* shaped like a crocodile at the front - so...

I/m surprised you didn't talk about Chima here; in its earliest concept art, it was literally an army of lion people fighting an army of scorpion people. It also included those animal castles.

Way late. But here's a quick explanation as to why Lego retired some colors back in the day. Why we are now seeing them return, and why things like Metalic Green will sadly probably not be on the list anytime soon. Back in the day, up until fairly recently (2014-15'ish) All colors came directly from plastic pellets provided by Bayer. Lego bought plastic precolored. So for special colors such as metalics etc, they mainly just had to order them. The big limiting factor was inventory control. They could only have as many active colors in the factory as they had silo space for to store the pellets. (this is why early sets had very limited color pallets. And some color combinations would be similar across themes in the same production period). Also each color of each part becomes it's own inventory management headache in the warehouse. The great purge of obscure colors and part tooling occurred as Lego recovered from their near bankruptcy in the early 2000's. Part of the findings then was Lego was losing too much money stockpiling vasy quantities of limited purpose stuff in their warehouses. They had to streamline to better manage their logistics chain. Thus the color pallet was trimmed and the one in one out rule was established for a time. To get a new color one had to be retired. But 10 years later technology changed the game. With their modernized factories Lego now mostly buys neutral colored pellets (generally a translucent whitish color) and injects the color dye into the molten plastic on the factory floor as needed. This means they can much more easily rework for different colors almost on the fly. And they can produce the colored parts as needed without having to warehouse vast quantities or overruns. They can pretty much do color on demand. But there are some trade offs with this. The first, and the one most commonly bitched about by Lego fans, is part to part, batch to batch there will be slightly more color variation between parts. Especially blues and yellows. Under strong lighting you might see minor variations as they are no longer using perfect color matched pellets from the plastic factory and instead are machine mixing on the fly. Where people get it wrong is they think this is a QC issue. It's not. It is a minor sacrifice in order to go to a much more powerful production system. One that allows a much broader pallet of colors per set. Every set. Your yellows may not be 100% perfectly matching now. They may only match to 98%. But that gives you back teal, and salmon, and all the Friends colors. And the autumn leaves in the treehouse, etc. The other negative or sacrifice is there are some types of colors that the color injection system just can't do or do well. Pearlescent Metalics for example. Those they still need to get pellets for. But with the ability to do most coloring on the fly, they are less likely to bulk buy special pellets just for some special project. So they work around with what they can do via color injection.

The set at 2:45 was the first set I was ever given, I’m pretty sure on my fourth birthday, and even though I’ve lost a lot of the parts I still have the horses, that stained glass window, and the king’s head is currently the face of my main fantasy castle Brikwars faction, the last piece of the oldest fig in my collection. It’s funny actually, the guy that writes the rules for Brikwars, Mike Rayhawk, also did the original character designs for the Knights Kingdom II era. Certain LEGO related things just seem to stick around in one way or another.

when you pointed out people (including me, initially) being turned off by the Nexo-Knights' medieval-futurism, I suddenly realized... that's literally just _Final Fantasy_ _FFXIV_ in particular has a ridiculous pendulum of going between realistic/enchanted weaponry and hi-tech mechanical versions of swords, shields, staves, books, etc.

funfact: this 0:30 was my first ever lego set that I got on christmas when I was 4. seeing this almost made me cry. it's astounding how the brain works. you see a glimpse of something youd held in your hands almost 20 years ago and get overwhelmed by memories of moments you shared with your parents, grandparents and how your house looked and smelled so different... the bionicle-styled knights were pretty cool too. another shortlived series with great first 2 years (morningstar and metallic textures!!) that sadly fizzles out without a satisfying conclusion

Great video! I still have the original King Leo's castle lying on the floor of my bedroom. It's one of those sets that because I love it so much and has a place in my heart, I never demolished it and still have it in my room after all these years. :) It's a shame that I never bought a ton of Knights Kingdom 2 sets because they came out when I'm in secondary school and college and I lost interest in Lego during that time. But I still wish I had Lord Vladek's castle because my God, that set still looks as cool as Skeletor's Snake Mountain even to this day. And Nexo Knights was actually the line that made me love Lego again. I was very excited when this line came out that I actually bought most of the sets from its first year. I have the Fortrex which is very cool and I still have it proudly displayed in my room and I absolutely love the lava monsters. But I agree the second year is where the line goes downhill because the villains are less cooler this time mainly because they are boring old grey. The techno villains in the following year were much cooler but sadly, at that point, I've lost interest in Nexo Knights and I understand why Lego cancelled the line afterwards. I felt sad that the line got cancelled because it had every potential to be the next Ninjago. But I will always fondly remember the first year of Nexo Knights and thanks to that line, I got interested in playing with Lego again.

10:19 There it is. The one and only Knight's Kingdom set I own. It was a cool set, the castle was pretty big and it had a lot of minifigs. The coolest part IMO was the little dungeon under the throne room/gate structure. You just take the whole green plate off and... boom! Dungeon! Pretty sweet. Also, that cast-iron looking gritty metallic texture? Hands-down one of the BEST textures ever used on a Lego piece.
