I feel like a dark grey floor would make all of the virbant colors pop better inside, and perhaps a more pronounced staircase leading up to the door? continuing that grey tile layer around the top would probably look good too

Ye not a fan of the floor either, maybe a dark color would look that tiny bit better (like dark red or dark green or dark blue idk)
Stellar as always!! What about having a band playing just outside the record store in the mall court? It could be a promotional concert sponsored by the record store, or even the band that is going on the rock tour doing promo work for their tour!!

Maybe signing autographs on their latest album. That could give a nice reason to have a line of people on the sidewalk with little scenes while they wait in line.
This should win an award for having the best use of Vidyo sets. Absolutely amazing that you were able to make the piano key pattern around the shop with the black keys being shorter. Such a nice detail! Lego should be paying you for how good all those Vidyo record covers look and your parts integration. Anyone with a Lego city who wants a record shop should watch this channel. I love to see the records in the bargain bins. Truly reminds me of old record shops in my youth!
I think having a person coming out of the shop with a bunch of records would be cool. It would show that the person just bought a lot. Great Build!

Have them hauling a crate of records on a dolly. Because if you've ever handled a crate of records before you know a dolly is useful
The Record shop has a cool mini figure Robin, I love the Torso as a programmer. The binary code actually spells LEGO in ASCII code. BTW that is also why "the answer to life, the universe and everything" is 42 (Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy); 42 is the code for '*', which in most programs/parsers mean "whatever you want"
@chrischristiansen6204

That is really cool- I hadn't known that. :)
The back wall also looks like it could be made of acoustic material! Seeing how decorated everything is, the center area of the mall is begging for a fountain or other mall fixture to fill the space.
With the phone shop, skate shop, and record shop, this mall has got the a hit with all the hip kids

Yeah, except it might be a bit retro. That's me showing my age!
The build looks great, love the textured large vinyl wall at the back of the store. I would say that the bright green floor is a bit much, a muted colour would probably work better.
I think, that it would look better to cover the window on the phone shop side, and leave the other two open as doorways. Also add a handrail
For how long you've been talking about this MOC, I'm so happy it turned out so amazingly! Completely packed & stacked!!!
Amazing! Like the Travel Agency, the background gives the store a nice feeling. And the top charts was a nice addition.
I’ve never wished for one of your builds to be an official modular more than this. Pretty spectacular so far and there’s more to come! Excited for the final model. Thanks for all the amazing Lego content.

Thanks for the encouragement, it's much appreciated!
Looks awesome, love this Mall build series. You should add some speakers to the outside of the store so that the other shoppers can hear what is playing in the record shop.
Small suggestion for a scene that could be outside: In some stores on DVD boxes, they have little strings on the back so you can't take them. So, I thought that there could be a shifty looking guy trying to walk off with one of the records out of the crates outside but being pulled back (cartoonishly) through the air right back towards the store using a trans clear angled bar price to hold him/her in the air and a string piece attached from the back of the record tile and into the crate!
I think you should put a Lego cat next to or in front of the missing cat poster.
i just noticed the large tooth lining up with the fin for the sails on the sailboat- i like it

also impressive combination of the minifigure stands and jumper plates
I think the shelf in the middle could be flipped so the hit parade thing is facing the mall centre and everyone coming down the stairs could see it.
This looks awesome! You should add a 2 by 1 hitch piece under the music listening spot to hang the headphones.

The amendments to the back wall really give more life to it. The splashes of color from the travel packages are really nice. Maybe the one that does't have the anti stud could be in the process of being packaged or sold to a customer. I love how the ridged backwall with the big record looks like a really old record player. Lego really knocked it out of the park for the record cover pieces. So many fantastic designs. I like having the record forgotten on the top of the shelf. Maybe that will be a fantastic find for a future customer. That dancing sign tile looks like it might be a digital display. I think the blue glass helps it look like it has more depth like the open glass is slid behind it. I really like the piano key detail. One thing that didn't really register for me until the end of the video is that we have a basic green sunken floor for this store- was that by intention? I think the color looks good with the orange on the backwall and raising it would mess with other parts of the build so I would just leave it as is. The texture of the studs makes it look a bit more like carpet which is pretty common for dampening sound anyway. Maybe for a street detail once the mall is in place a customer could be looking thru one of the outside bins or looking over as they pass by. I like how overall the different shops in the mall feel like they tie together well.
The only improvement for me would be changing the orientation of the crate that the guy with the Mohican has got his record from - so that minifigs can get to the Top 8 (or Great 8!) If necessary could also rotate the crate behind to facilitate that. Fantastic build though Robin, I love it!!!
The listening booth brings me back about 40 years! Crazy colors all around, packed and stacked and I wonder what kind off name you'll come up with for the mall!
Could you add a normal 4 by 6 window to the larger open frames to give the appearance of a half open sliding door? Not sure if it would fit but it’s worth a try!
In case you need ideas for other shops... Every mall seems to have at least one spot that is always under construction or "Coming soon" I am curious to see your take on this idea. For the 3d record, how would it look if you added a record arm?
@chrischristiansen6204
Жыл бұрын
Maybe it could be done as a section of a store blocked off with tarps or the store sign in the process of being hung? Like they are just opening even though they are not quite done with construction or having a remodel/rebrand of an established shop.
I think it would be great if there was a pair of minifigs outside the record store - an elderly one looking annoyed at the store, holding a pair of earmuffs, and a younger one that's excitedly turning towards it, money in hand. Or perhaps even the other way around for comedic effect.
I'm personally not a fan of the open windows. I would close up 2 of them and add double doors on the travel agent side. I don't know if that might be a UK thing or what, but I've never seen the sliding windows idea you're talking about, and it does kind of look weird without a proper door.
@LaneCorbett
Жыл бұрын
I'd say the two not facing the rest of the mall. On the one facing the mall dp double doors with a sign on half saying use other door.
This was a great one, well done Robin. The only thing I’m so sure about are the open windows, but overall another beautiful shop for the mall
I feel a dark/light tan tiled floor would work great for a sort of “shag carpet” type look. And an actual door would go a long way. Otherwise, I think it’s lovely!
This build is so inspiring! Look how much can fit onto 2 plates! Your Mohawk guy is so proud of his find. Maybe he can have a friend who is outside that he is showing it to?
I must've missed the part in another video where the mosaic goes in. That thing is fire. Here's an insane idea that no-one will ever do ever: All the interiors are hidden when on display, right? So - some freak MOC builder makes two MOCS of everything. One to display and the other is an easily viewable duplicate interior and just stack them like boxes or something on wall shelves. The record shop rocks. A really bonkers idea is a record shop that rotates like it's on a turntable. Maybe revolving door / turntable theme.
Wow! You’re going to have to invent an even more dense term than ‘packed and stacked’. This (pun-intended) surely breaks records for the most items displayed on the tightest packed space! Awesomely layered and clever - from the piano frame floor, the use of Vimeo tiles, and the amazingly complex, and rather 70s looking, main shop wall. It’s like you’re attempting to show off the maximum number of jumper plates that it is feasible to use! You succeeded. Super impressive and thank you.
@thomashayes507

So, “in a sense, it’s immensely dense” … 👏🤣 lol
Whilst I agree the signs above the mural look good, may I suggest using national flags. The LEGO set number 75912 Porsche 911 GT Finish Line, has a total of 8 flags that might look good above the mural, 👍
It just needs some floor tiles. Green will look odd with the grass next to mall.

nice record store two sugestions i think would look awesome is fit one side of the double doors to the open frames and fit handles to them to give the ilousion of the slide door half slided open and the other sugestion is i reckon a old school juke box would be very fitting in the store .👍
The level of detail is astounding as always. My only suggestion is that speakers in upper corners point down rather than up, but not sure how important it would be since you really can't see them from the outside. I only cared to point it out cause I've set up a few sound systems in my day. I seriously love your use of stickers from literally everywhere.
Aha the long awaited vinyl record shopLooks great robin and those video tiles came in uselful haha
What a build! The colours, details and especially that back wall! I thought initially that the stud floor won't fit with the rest of the build but once it's all covered in the assets and little treats it works well. Bit weird not to have the windows but you can easily imagine it's only like that "during the day"😉. This is my second favourite store in your mall right after the skate shop. I also like all the changes to the travel agent, especially that new back wall. I know that you've already filled the outside top of the store with vinyls, but I thought about a 3d sign that maybe looks like a big vinyl deck? It would make the store stand out even more - Just a suggestion 😉
Would one of the window frames be a door? Love this build and this series is definitely my favorite so far! Love all the intricate details and colorful add ones in each building :).
It looks really nice. Could you make the floor like the Saturday Night Live dance floor?

Fantastic build, well worth wait. the green floor is odd, maybe tile it off or a vibrant 'carpet' made up of studded 1-? plates.
The record on the back wall adds an interesting texture to the build. The piano keys ties in the musical flavor. Great work.

Such a fun store I am really enjoying this series 😊
Nice one! As for suggestions, (and because I work in a 2nd hand vinylshop hehe) , I would like to suggest to swap the listening "booth" with a record player just like the one on the counter. The player could be attached to the wall (not vertically of course) and listened records can be put in a bin below. The glass divider isn't really necessary as people listen/preview on headphones anyway and I think these "glass divided" booth's were especially made for cd's not records. Keep it up! very much enjoying these vids :)

On Everything is Awesome being in the chart for years - my dad worked for the company that processed the chart data in the 90s and he thinks the reason that Bryan Adams managed 16 weeks at number one was because someone was lazy and kept running the same tapes. Maybe someone's been inept (or the SSP have been 'making sure') and that's why it's still in the chart! The piano keys are a great detail too, do you play piano? I did up to grade 6 as a kid but I haven't played since I was a teenager.

Hello Robin, very nice video again. For ones I want to give my reaction on the recordplayer. When you play a record like this it wil play backwards the arm with the neadle needs to be in the other side of the record 😜

Interesting, but I do see one small problem. Where is this new building going to be getting its power from? Looks like you need a power station. I have blueprints for one, if you’re interested….

Thanks for sharing. Many Blessings. The Living God was here.
I think you should move the crate in front of the top 8 songs list so that you can see the 8th record
I think you could put some figure with the small glass piece trying to install them in the windows frame
I recommend u add a phone or a place that you grab the headphones so u can listen to music

Except I already have that, in this video!
How about switching the white 1x2 jumpers for white 1x1 plates so that the flats and sharps appear tall, like they would on an actual keyboard? The white 1x1s would still support the windows.
Looks awsome but you are going to leave the floor baseplate green? The floor should have some sort of teal and black tile work or teal and something, maybe teal and gold.
Incredible MOC, that should go without saying for any of your designs. I keep buying the Vidiyo figures whenever I can find them for $5 or less. I like some of the figures, but really it's for the tiles and acessories. They make great wall art (even when not used as album covers). 2 ideas. First it is hard to tell that the two openings are doorways, maybe a handrail leading into both of those would help. Second; the record bins are only about hip high to the minifigs. I know with my bad back that would be hard to sort through. Can you raise them up slightly? If you can; a shelf underneath would allow you to slide some more records in, probably laying down instead of upright like you have inside the bins. It can never be "stacked and packed" enough can it? TFS! PS I've loved this mall series, as you finish each store I'm getting a bit sad knowing we are getting closer to the end.
Very nice build again. You never disappoint I small detail: I think I would exchange the 3th open window (by dj Pink) with a door. Because there is no real door in the shop (or am I missing simething).
Great video :)
I love it Robin! Finaly a perfect use of all thoes tiles! I there a specific reason why you didn't tile the floor? Maybe too many tiles on the walls? 😂 I would definitely tile the floor.
Cool
You should use the DJ minifigure from the video line to run the shop, i think you need an extra pare of headphones hanging on the wall and they do make a 3x6 glass door for those 6x6 frames. Love the mall keep up the great work.
What about adding a rock band playing outside
@RobinHoodBricks

Maybe. I'll see how it looks in place before deciding big outdoor scenes!
The Vidiyo theme is really showing its benefits here, with the record tiles and all. Also loving the colors used on there. Also, how did you use your Hot Tea Technique on that gray wall piece with the World Tour sticker? It looks like it would be tricky to do with the sticker placed in a recessed area of that piece. Do you have any tips on how do deal with sticker stuck on pieces like that?
