    @@darkroom0716 In most ways, yes, Slugger is one of us, but I think there is another side to Slugger that we saw today, the Galidor side. Galidor Slugger is a lonely creature cursed to forever wander a world that cannot understand him. He sees the warmth of the Bionicle fans' fires, hears the laughter as they celebrate the nine years of their chosen theme, but he knows those fires are not for him. He climbs into his metaphorical TDN Module and sets out in search of his own kind, but he knows it is fruitless. No matter how far he travels, no one he meets shares his pop cultural heritage. "What the heck is an Ooni?" "Kek Powerizer? Sorry, I'm not on 4chan." Slugger is the last of his kind. Maybe the only one there ever was. But he keeps on, regardless. He will never give up. Well, Slugger, I've never even held a Nick Bluetooth, and I can only name Nepol and Shimmer because I have Bricklink open right now, but I'll call those ratcheted Lego joints "Galidor joints" for you. Godspeed, Slugger.

    5:36 It’s nice to see someone having fun with a set. There’s quite a few people out there that complain that why didn’t this minifigure come with leg printing or this should’ve been this color instead. It’s Lego, you are allowed to mod stuff. I’ve enjoyed occasionally modifying my own sets like giving minifigures extra details, adding a windscreen or specialized exhaust piece to my race car, an extra saddle to my dragon, or giving a high tech space blaster to my medieval knights, or just getting an extra minifigure to go along with a set they should’ve been included in. You’re not just stuck with the base model when you buy a set.

    Those new System to Galidor Joint connectors are a godsend for mech design as a whole, previously we could only get that form factor using ball joints but those will often become loose if reused, so having the sturdiness of galidor joints is much preferable

    I had a thought earlier and I think something that draws me to your videos is your framing. Part of the enjoyment in watching lego reviews is window shopping. In other reviews its typical to do top down views while reviewer talks which can look unflattering or feel understimulating and often I don't watch through to the end. But in your videos it always feels like we get to see the builds at minifigure level and explore the whole (or most) of the set visually because of the way you plan your shots. And thats on top of all the set pieces and stop motion you make to go the extra mile which I bet is a lot more work to do for you. I guess I just hope you know how well it pays off.

  • @RRSlugger

    @RRSlugger

    Really? Thank you! Honestly, I sometimes feel like I don't have enough wide shots of a set, to better help communicate the orientation of things and whatnot, but this is good feedback to get. Here's a little secret - often times we're down at minifigure level because my tripod simply doesn't extend much higher than that! The scene where I sprinkled some Galidor parts onto the models was shot at max height for my tripod, to give some context. 😄 A happy accident then!

    The beginning of the video addressing a Galidor version of the "Bionicle dream" is actually extremely relatable, I've had dreams of finding unopened Galidor sets in unlikely places at least 3 times, glad I'm not alone. Also the part where you started to "review" the set, listing features the base set absolutely does not have was hilarious and I'm surprised I've never ever seen a joke like that in any kind of review video before.

    Nothing tops the Galidor joint when it comes to body horror in Lego. This gave me flashbacks to all of the deeply weird shenanigans my friends and I would get up to with Lego figures, cobbling together things that would make Sid from Toy Story recoil in horror. My favorites are still the dinosaurs, who doesn't wanna put a triceratops head on a T-rex body with dragon wings and flippers? There's something oddly satisfying about making really cursed Lego figures... I will say though, nothing we ever made is as disturbing as your minifigure with the Dreamzzz face sticker on it. Good God man, that's horrifying.

    My favourite version of the galidor joint system was in the bahrag queens of bionicle, the technic 4 long half-beams that each went around a ring with a pin. A really incredible assembly for the strong but diverse motion of galidor translated to a 4 long ÷ o÷ technic beam, which gives plenty of good options. And the circular flaring at the ring area to fit the ring just looked cool anywats, I'd use them for things other than joints cos i liked the piece look.

    I know I already left one comment, but I just realized a massive hole in this video's topic, the larger set you review, the crocodile car, is extremely similar in concept to the canceled Galidor set 8322! Both are red vehicles, with blue creature accents, with the biggest aspect of both being a sharp toothed head at the front of the vehicle. The only difference is the canceled set was a shark crossed with a bike.

    i got the bunny set and i like it a lot, cute bnuy, fun add-on builds! althought it doesnt have as much galidor potential for Mr Slug, since only the legs are ratchet joints with the arms being small ball joints and the head a large ball joint since i preordered it a while ago i dont really know or remember if it is worth its price, but i find it very cute regardless

    I don’t think the Turtle Van uses Galidor joints, sadly. 😭 It uses a different connection system for its legs which I don’t think is easily compatible with the Crocodile Car.

    Thank you slugger for talking about galidor joints. Part 80431 is a fantastic update to 41533 (Turntable 2 x 2 x 2 Side Facing Locking). As an old school Alpha Team fan I'd say that Ogel Sub Shark and the Alpha Team Command Sub paved the way for the crocodile car.

    Totally loved the set with its sadly exclusive parts with those joints. The part was only available in 2 other sets, but in yellow rather than DarkGrey.

    i would like to make one nitpick- galidor may have pioneered the system, but i believe it was the knights kingdom action figures that introduced the parts as they are today. the parts they used for limbs have been retired since then, but the ratchet pieces with the technic pegs are the same design used way back when. the curved armour plate bricks established for that line are also still used today, even inspiring the shells used by ninjago’s evo sets and the like. knights kingdom means a lot to me, and i want to make sure its legacy is remembered.

    Certainly, Knights Kingdom had a hand in shaping the Galidor joint system with increasing its System compatibility! Putting studs on the limbs feels like the natural next step with the system, and I could honestly see that being somewhere Galidor might have taken it next had it continued longer! 👍
