As much as I like the look of this Train, It kinda bugs me that Lego Keeps doing High Speed Trains for the Passenger Train category. I'd like to see a Subway or Amtrak like Train from them.

J Mac I like the horizon express but having to buy two of them Just to make up the whole Train & buying power functions for it Just ruins it for me.

Well, weirdly enough, I have this train and I haven´t changed anything ever since I got it in 2015. It went around corners just fine.

I purchased this set just for the Power Functions and parts. In South Africa we do not have the option to buy from the LEGO Shop at Home store or much access to Bricklink etc. That pretty much leaves toy stores from which to get sets. This set yields the Power Functions I need, extra tracks and a level crossing, train wheels and 58 window panel pieces. Not a bad parts haul. It was a very cost effective way for me to acquire what I needed.

My daughter wanted and got this today for Christmas. I really appreciate the tip on the rear truck.

When you board this type of train you typically board between the cars. There is no doors on the outside of the body to lower wind resistance. At the station they pull back the shrouds between the cars and you enter from the car ends. This is modeled on these trains but there is no working door. and the shrouds which are canvas IRL are dark grey bricks here.

Interesting. I've never seen or heard of such a thing. Can you share an example? This train was inspired by the German ICE series, all of which use regular doors.

I found the cars I was talking about and I was mistaken that they were high speed trains. The cars I was talking about turned out to be streamlined AMTRAK cars from the early 60's (I know Amtrak started in 71 but her first cars were mismatch equipment from various railroads). Sorry my old memory just isnt what it used to be LOL.

Jack the railfan did you fix it in the end?

The Doors are on each end of the Cars. The Single Windows there are part of it. If u know the ICE (which this obviously is made to resemble) it gets obvious.

Finally I know why my back car keeps derailing, thanks!

I had the same issue with the rear car. All I did was move them to the outside studs and the problem was solved with the given parts.

Good solution for replacing the two orange tiles! A higher speed can be operated safely at if more middle cars are added.

I must say this certainly is a nice looking train. The obvious flaws in it while disappointing, can be fixed. I think I'll pick this one up and give it a few modifications (doors and a new floor) and this will make wonderful little bullet train.Thanks for the review Jang!

3:13 if you tidy up the wire and move the battery box forward (maybe redesign the power on/off button a bit) you could actually fit 1-2 seats in the locomotive

I guess that the 1x2x2 Trans-black window pieces on the ends of the cars enclosed bij the dark bluish grey pieces indicates doors. Here in the Netherlands that is where you would find the Bike logo's (indicating that those doors are the closest to enough space). I might buy the set most because it looks very much like the german ICE3 High speed train (the dutch railways own one as well), cause that would be a nice addition next to the Horizon express (being the french TGV). Thanks very much for sharing the model as early as posible!! Keep up the good work!

7:30 Sir, you could find a way to fill the hole with a 2x2 flat piece.

I never realized the 2014 Train sets were being released. And, looking at pictures, the "cattle" car from the cargo one could have really useful applications as a realistic slate truck (european terminology).

Hey Jang, Thanks for the advice! I just bought this train myself and was wondering why it keeps derailing. I'm making the adjustment as we speak and can't wait to see the result for myself in person.

For the mod, you can remove the little circle that is on top of the battery box light. Then put a white 2x2 on top of it. After that, use that 2x2 round you got and use it to mod it.

I have the 2008 passenger train and i still reckon that it is the better one out of all the trains they have made (this is meaning all of the Passenger trains that are meant to be a 'High speed train' this is not including the Horizon Express) is the best looking one. I like how they went for the sleek look like the 2008 one and i wish that the 2008 one had equal train sections like this one but after hearing about the falts i reckon that the 2008 one is better overall than this version. If you want it because of look (like Jang said) get it but if you can get the 2008 one, even though it has the old power functions, (i have never had a problem)it is still good. Hope this helps for people thinking of getting it, I personally still want to get it but i'm happy with the one I have. Apart from that Great Job Jang, you never seem to get old or boring and i like your setup for showcasing the items. Keep up the good work!

One of the most constructive and comprehensive reviews ever! Brilliant. And looked great up and runnong on your layout. It would look great with a few more passenger coaches too. If you want to go almost top speed in curves you can elevate a little the tracks outside the curve like at rollercoasters

i agree that it's bad that there is no doors, but the good thing is that you can remove some of the pieces to make your own brick-built door and place it wherever you want to place it

Algodude87 I've had it for 3 years and I have the same problem

My set ran smoothly because what I did was I put the crossing before the station but it did have a problem when it left the station the last car hit one of the stands but it didn't derail and I think Lego has done a good job compared to the last one

I just purchased this set. took me about an hour to build. highly recommended it if your looking for a nice inexpensive Train set. I'm not sure if these are being discontinued. hope not

Thank you for the review! It was informative and answered most of my questions of this set. But, two things that came to my mind: Doors - trains of this type usually have flush doors that mimic the rest of the vehicle, here represented by the single windows at each end of the vehicle (that's my first thought about them). Otherwise I agree. Second - Is it possible to fit this train with lights? I see technic beams hidden by the nose cone, but do those line up so the light will actually be visible?

Hi Jang, I agree with you on the platform collision and to move it inside the circle is a good choice. But as to derail, I didn't have this problem, even at full speed. Are you sure that you have stuck it into the right whole that is the outer one instead of the one in the middle? So maybe this modification is not necessary? Thanks

Jang if you ever read this you should make a subway system under your city and make a subway moc if you haven't already

Hey jang, I would like to build your sigfig to add to my display, and I'm wondering, as it is hard to tell in the video, is the hair dark brown, or black?

Personally, I think that the set isn't all that bad, if you have the pieces to make the right modifications, than it could really turn out great.

This looks good as my first train for my layout just is really expensive and out of my price range

Did the power functions needed to motorize train come with the set or sold separately?
