As you could see, the opening ceremony is a big deal in Eurovision, which is why almost every opening ceremony lasts from 10 to 20 minutes. The main purpose is to hype up the whole contest and to promote the host country by showing landscapes, traditions, music and former participants of the host country. That’s why having the chance to present your country in a Eurovision is one of the main reasons for a country to want to win the ESC. 😄 The flag parades are also always very iconic. They are comparable to the flag parades of the Olympics. If you want to check out other opening ceremonies of the ESC I can also recommend the opening ceremony of 2019, which also had a very iconic flag parade. 😉👍

The violinist Lidia Baich, winner of the Eurovision Young Musicians 1998, performed live on stage an excerpt of Austria's 1966 winning song "Merci, Chérie" by Udo Jürgens. Udo had died in december 2014 - so it was a sort of "in memoriam" to Austrias first winner. Conchita - not only did win in 14 - he also hosted the green room in 15 and got to sing the theme song "building Bridges" in the intro with a boys choir and a rapper.

Because of the Eurovision movie, Eurovision 2019 will forever be my favorite because of the stage, the audience was all apart of the phenomenal song “Husavik.”

@@BB-vj1ne Oh no! Not Madonna’s performance! That was so cringy. She butchered so many tones during her performance that it was kind of a disgrace to let her sing live on Eurovision 2019. 🙈

Latvias performance in 2015 was amazing Sadly her song (Aminata with „Love Injected“) was back then ahead of his time nowadays she would probably placed in the top 3

Iceland went through a non qualification streak around this time. Ironically the 2019 act that got in the top ten look nothing like Fire Saga although the contestants in the 2020 and 2021 have a bit of them.

The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is the biggest TV show in the world, this year the finale was watched by 189 millions of viewers. American Idol, XFactor, The Voice, America's Got Talent, are TV show camouflaged by talent show, most of them is scripted. ESC is a song contest, a real song contest. Also I am afraid US won't be able to participate ever and that is because ESC is not a contest among countries although it looks like, instead it's a contest between broadcasters who are part of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) , an alliance that includes 116 members from 56 countries from Europe and the Mediterranean area and 34 associates from 21 countries from allover the world. Only members can participate with an exception for the Australian broadcaster who in 2015 for the 60th annyversary of the contest has been allowed the participation until 2023 as a reward since they have broadcasted the show since the 80s and they have a lot of viewers. Actually within the associates there are 6 broadcasters from the US but as far as I kinow they don't broadcast the show. The show was conceived in 1956 taking inspiration from Italian Sanremo Festival with the purpose to promote cultural exchange among Europe and started with only 7 contestant. Over the years it has changed a lot and as you can imagine with today's numbers ESC is a convenient platform for any artist and for broadcasters is also the real deal. I don't know if you can access all ESC videos from US however I think you can find them on Vimeo as well. Personally I think it's very a entartaining show. I apologie for the long comment I just thought a bit of info about the contest could be good to understand it.

Really? I watched a trailer just last year that the EBU wanted to do an American Song Contest after the success of the Eurovision movie here. I’d love it if one day the US could participate.

Yeah but I’m really sorry but public consensus is that you’re not welcome here. You completely violated your right to ever perform here when you created that “American Song Contest”
