Great song, great band, and one of the all time best performances in the history of rock music. I'm thrilled that you reacted to it. The audience was probably "rocking and rolling" on the inside, but were prohibited to make any sound or sudden movement because this performance was being recorded for television. The audience had to comply with the rules or risk being asked to leave. I enjoyed watching your reaction, and look forward to the next.

If you look at the audience they simply weren't a rock crowd, but a TV audience who might have expected a middle of the road family act. The applause at the end sounded enthusiastic and genuine. Following the screaming at Beatles concerts TV shows would have told everyone to behave and listen.

This song is a force of nature.

Love seeing twenty somethings reacting to the music of my late teens/early twenties. I’m 71 now and still love DP, LOUD! This is the Mark2 line-up - Ian Gillan on vocals, Ritchie Blackmore on lead guitar, the late great Jon Lord on keyboard, Ian Paice on drums and Roger Glover on bass guitar. When DP broke up in 1975, Blackmore went on the form Rainbow with vocalist Ronnie James Dio. You should check them out too. I highly recommend Stargazer and its sequel A Light In The Black

Very hard to watch a live performance like this when the music audio and video are so badly out of synch with each other

Apart from the slight mismatch between the audio and the video which is always going to be a bit annoying, it was a good reaction. I'd suggest other DP songs, Highway Star and for a more bluesy track, Lazy.
