Actually that's kind of amazing. Imagine a Raziel and Kain podcast where they talk about all the crap they've had to deal with and where they thought it was all going to lead them in the end, but didn't. Be a long damn show, but I'd listen all the way. Them laughing at events prior and making fun of Mobius and the BS of history would be hysterical.

😭😭💔💔 haven't had a new LoK game since Defiance. If someone would have told me back then that until at least 2022, there wouldn't be a new LoK game, I would have never believed it!

The scene at the pillars where Kane talks about the coin landing on its edge: I was in college with my roommates all about me doing their own thing when this scene played. Everyone stopped what they were doing and watched and listened. I'll never forget this game.

Rather have an ending to the story then a retread of what we already seen and a remake doesn't mean that the remade series would have an ending either. Same thing may happen again.

@@fundyproductions5927 As much as I'd love a true conclusion to the original story, Defiance being almost 20 years old now makes the chances of that infinitessimally small. As sad as it is, the only way for this series to come back is through an indirect sequel with a new protagonist (like in the canceled Dead Sun), a full on reboot, or a HD/4K remaster/remake of the original titles. I know which I'd prefer.

This game was just like a novel. So many great twists and turns.

"I don't think I have the stomach for it." In Raziel's case, that is quite literal.

Never before or after will there be a story like this, ever. This whole series needs to be reserialized with comics, shows, and of course a final game. I wish we lived in a timeline where this never went forgotten in the mainstream

"Wheel of Fate go brrr." Literally the Elder God's entire motivation for everything he does, but he's written and voiced so damned well that he doesn't come off as shallow. A testament to how good Amy's writing is.

An absolute masterpiece. Emotional story full of life lessons. They don’t make games like these anymore. Deserves a remaster.

Tbh I've never even owned either of these 2 newest gen systems (xbox 1, ps4, ect.) Although I have played them. Not the switch yet. N yeah, like the ff7 remake?! Looks fuckin amazing!! I suppose what my counter point is trying to be (along with whoever's comment I commented on, what I felt they where kinda implying).. is well I'm 31 now. I feel as tho I've seen the absolute pinnacle of story-based games. N it was like a decade or so ago. The voice acting in this game, is worthy of a Shakespearean play. Templeman and Bell, Tony Jay…just incredible performances all round. I’d love for them to revive this as a live action Netflix show but if they did I’d always hear the original voice actors in my head. They were that good

Exactly. Unfortunately I didn't play the games thoroughly, but now that I am capable of following their narrative I don't believe there is any other game with equal wording and descriptive passages. I know one of the writers went on to work on the Uncharted series, but I still come back to Soul Reaver whenever I wish to listen to charming voice acting too.

I honestly think LOK is in a league of its own in this regard. There are hidden gems surely (one of my personal favourite less-known gems is Okami) but for such a well written story and the improvements made in each sequel gameplay wise I can't believe it got thrown to the scrap heap. I absolutely loved Defiance with its fast and satisfying combat and smooth platforming - dodgy camera angles sometimes didn't help but I loved Raziels's gliding. My first LOK game was actually Soul Reaver 2 at the age of 8/9 and the story and setting just encapsulated me, despite not knowing the full backstory of everything at the time. I remember reading that Defiance's poor sales were the reason for the series demise, and its just so sad that one commercial failure destroyed the continuation/conclusion of one of the finest narratives in gaming (or story-telling in general) history.

way of the samurai. the combat of WoS is to me the most authentic samurai duel combat system in any game I've played. Nioh is over the top despite it being fun, and ghost of tsushima is perhaps too simple. But WoS truly feels like you're in a samurai duel, carefully waiting for your oponent to strike, while they do the same. And not to mention the multiple ending structure to the playthroughs which is always really fun to play around with.

36:29 Funny moment where Raziel finishes one of his eloquent speeches, and a frog starts hopping in the scene behind him to break the seriousness.

The way Kain just casually jokes "Poor William" gets me every time.

54:12 cracks me up every time Kain's just like '...poor William...thanks for not killing me fam'

I miss when games had such compelling stories. This whole thing was like reading an amazing book.

I remember a time when cutscenes were unskippable, not a nuisance but the sole reward for the gameplay. Not the weapon or its looks, not some hypothetical numbers and not micro transaction. A time in which video games would start to be used at their full potential as a medium for good stories, interactive by the player and immersive due to whtever setting it may be.

The script is top notch and the voice acting is just fantastic. Hey game developers take notes.

if the coin falls one way: -A HD LoK collection appears for all consoles and PC If the coin lands on the reverse: -No HD LoK collection is planned and thus leaving the series to oblivion. But suppose you throw a coin enough times.... suppose one day... it lands on its edge: -They remaster all of the games for all consoles and the series is revived.

These blades now coiled in sinister embrace have struck fear in the hearts of beings far more durable than you old man. That has to be my favourite line ever in these games

I was a kid when I played Soul Reaver 1 and 2 so the subleties of the plot very much eluded me. Needless to say having watched the two videos on Soul Reaver I am somewhat blown away by the sheer brilliance of it, its a novel and a half.

It never escaped me. Most games nowadays make me want to skip the dialogue after the first playthrough if given the opportunity. This game makes me put down the controller. Listening to Raziel talk shit to everyone he comes across including his boss. He and Kain constantly threatening Mobeus is just down right cool and hilarious.

Same I also played Blood Omen 1 & 2 it was like a prequel with Kain as the playable character.. this series is disgustingly forgotten and I bet you if it got a remaster or more games it will be on top of the single player games

The "coin speech" at the pillars has to be the most epic dialogue of any game I've ever played. It is also the first hint you get that Kain might not be the total villain he has been portrayed as.

Ever since I first played this game 20 years ago, Raziel flicking Moebius (14:04) always makes me smile.

Yes, and the longer it goes on, it shows that Kain was right about everything all along. Kain always was my favorite character.

The story told in this series is a masterpiece, every now and then I come back and watch it's entirety from blood omen to defiance, what a treat is to have consumed such a journey.

Man, the cutscene at 52:35 is so good; the detail is great. After Kain tells Raziel that he holds the cards, Kain then looks tense for a moment before the camera changes. He knows how this plays out and is expecting the worst. Love the detail. Second best scene in the game, right behind the one at the Pillars talking about the "third option".

Indeed. One of the most important cutscenes no doubt. Only the Legacy of Kain series could make the death of a minor character like the Nemesis turn into such an essential pivot in the series' entire plot.

The writing is so masterful in these games I feel like I'm watching a play.

"You nearly had me, Raziel..." -Kain after shrugging off a few strikes with little effort.

With all the remakes and remasters that have came out in the past years I hope this series follows in the near future.

I would rather an end to the series; remasters would sure LOOK great but that would just make the, 'to be continued," all the more upsetting.

After all these years and I can still match word for word the dialog. You could say I played this series a lot way back when :)

The captions: "Do you not feel with all your SELF that we have become like GIRLS" I'm dying

The series that jump started my knowledge of english, and propelled my writing career from even a very early age.

Of course there are flaws (absent cutscenes and dialogues) but the quality is astonishingly good. Great work!

Listening to the Elder God speak at 30:00 reminds me a lot of Senator Palpatine. The voices aren't the same but the tone and tenor is similar. If they ever remade this franchise, I bet Ian McDiarmid would make an excellent voice for the Elder God.

God the memories.. my childhood was playing all the games. Oldest brother would be watching and helping me. I miss the times.

Raziel : talks to Ariel Ariel : rund to the spectral realm Raziel : Excuse me you did not just try and leave this conversation. There is no X to close for you right now.

There's something about the way the characters move in the cutscenes, as well as their amazing dialogue that is simply a treasure. The expressions too are also greatly emphasized to add better effect. Example: 42:08 After finally watching it all. God damn what an amazing story this game had.

I still remember my first playthrough in like 2008. I thought it was just going to be a run of the mill GOW clone with vampires. How delightfully wrong I was.

Never change how this ends instead release it on xbox one or Playstation. A truly entertaining dark tale.

The people that tried to get the series going again with Legacy of Kain: Dark Sun were the same people behind Silent Hill: Origins, another game that screwed up established lore and precedence. Silent Hill's story is actually pretty straightforward once all the pieces are in place, so if the developers behind Origins couldn't understand THAT story, I guarantee you they took one look at Legacy of Kain's lore and their heads exploded.

Elder squid :You must treat carefully, there are dark forces at work in this world bend on subverting your true destiny. Raziel : I have no doubt of that, the question is...am I in their presence right now ? lol, these lines are good.

Watching this brings me warm nostalgia, and sadness. Games with amazing stories like this will never be made. Our children and their children will never know such joys. They will be subjected to incomplete games that focus on multiplayer modes, downloadable content, and whatever else greedy developers can make money off of. Hence why we will never see a continuation of The Legacy of Kain.

Gow 2018, the last of us part 1 and 2, the original trilogy of gears of war and many more... Just because something of the past was truly great and beautiful, doesn't mean it had no flaws, or that something from the future cant be as good

I come back and watch this movie almost weekly.......I absolutely adore this series

This masterpiece is 20 years old.

This game is so damn good, confusing, and through provoking. A gem of its time needing new light in this day and age.

14:04 the little flick he gives Mobeius...was precious. Hahahahah

Raziel's monologues (the ones not about explaining a game mechanic) really feel like a first person novel

A complete audio novel of the series would be something else.

Raziel was destined to kill Moebius in the spiritual world, that's why he couldn't see his path

Nope. Raziel himself IS a paradox. Specifically a Bootstrap Paradox. He always recreates himself. He became a ravenant so he could kill his human self, this allows him to be revived as a vampire only to be reborn as a reaver again. He is outside of Fate but was kept contained within this cycle til Kain broke the timeloop but freeing Raziel broke the timeline so hard it bent both the past and the future (Erasing Blood Omen 2 from existance and freeing the Hylden).

thank you for this video. The Legacy of Kain is a legit Legacy.

This story deserved 10 out of 10

I loved this game. Imagine a game like this with the possibilities of the present technology. I would blow away all of this so called "triple A games"

People need to make a kickstarter for Amy Hennig.

So well written and performed. And the lip-sync is beyond its era

What a beautiful story this game was. I thoroughly enjoyed playing through them all, but most notably Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2.

mmhmm.. and when WOW came out, i named my undead rogue Raziel.. such an awesome Chaacter

The voice acting in this game was great. This franchise could use a not crappy rebirth.

This game has the best story ever. You can watch these cutscenes just as if it was a movie

1:45:10 I hadn't noticed it the first time I played this but I love the fact that this is happening while the intro in the first game is also happening.

I was young maybe 9-10 years when i played this game. Had no idea what they were talking about as a non english talking kid, but just enjoyed the game and its athmosphere more than anything. Will never forget this game

I love this series so much. I wish they could at least come out with a novel that would tie up the end of the series. Defiance ended so loosely. Ive always questioned if that was its intention though.

Thanks for this. I couldn't get through the last few hours in because PC version keeps crashing. Absolutely brilliant. This whole series needs a remaster.

I love the scene where Raziel threatens Mobius, he exposed him for the snivelling, cowardly little git he really is, and in the moment where he could have smashed history and Mobius to bits, he shows mercy.

coolest description of a checkpoint/save point ever

The philosophical dialog is tough to follow at times, but it sounds great thanks to Michael Bell and the other talented actors in Soul Reaver 1 and 2 especially. I still have to complete part 3 Defiance on PS2. Waiting for a new Soul Reaver game...........

13:30 It occurs to me, this is probably one of the few times in the franchise Moebius genuinely has no idea how this is going to go or what will happen next. The one free willed being holding the one thing that can alter history.

A masterpiece of video game story telling!

No other game series used language so perfect.So theatrical and poetic.

Hate to say it but BO 2s writing was terribly bad. The explanation for it is simple - Amy Hennig wasnt the writer of that one. Some forgettable schmuck was, and it shows.

Even though this masterpiece does deserve a remaster I'd want it to stay the way it was originally made as I've seen most remastered games aren't as they were made from the original so let's hope they do remaster it and keep it as it should be a masterpiece

I really hope this gets remastered with today’s mechanics & that I get to live to see & experience it

They should make Legacy of Kain Trilogy. Were we can play 5 games of Legacy of Kain just like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon Trilogy.

good news, crystal dynamics is thinking about a sequel or at least a remaster of the series, you can do the survey on their website, soo maybe maybe maybe there will be a sequel to the LOK series…fingers are crossed

The cutscene graphics were ridiculously good for PS2.

I love Vorador's facial animations. They're wonderful.

I love these games, but I never got to play them. I just found the full videos like this in fall of 2020. They've helped me alot since then. Also thank you for uploading this video, it's like a free audiobook its so good.

I remember in part 1 when I first played it I wanted nothing more than to see Kains head taken off his shoulders by my blade. But by the end of Defiance, I just wanted them to be best buddies. I got my wish at the end of Defiance.......somewhat, LMAO!

The forge shrines are so fuckin elaborate in this game, it's hilarious. If Janos ordered them as Reaver Guardian it really shows how OTT, er I mean...stylish he was

Me realizing as a kid it was the story that sucked me into these games so hard lol

this should be done as a dark and gritty animated series with the same voice actors used in the game with a similar animation style to spawn.
